I thought sure some of you guys would be on this. It just opened this weekend. I saw it Sunday. Ground Zero has never been on my list of things to see. For some New Yorkers it's just off-limits emotionally. But this film I could do. The perspective made it much more intense than expected.
Thoughts?

Frankly, they're a day late and a dollar short. With five years nearly come and gone since that day, we've seen congressional hearings, political posturing, the 9/11 Commission Report, re-enactments that are much closer to the truth by both The Discovery Channel and The History Channel and we've heard the words of their loved ones ad infinitum. I don't care if I find myself bored out of my skull a couple years down the road when this thing hits cable. I'll sooner take a nap.

The controversy has been confusing considering the cable movies had already been done.

I thought this movie was very well done. It was a very odd and interesting experience watching it with strangers who all shared that day. There's nothing like it. I was relating what I was doing during those couple of hours with what was going on with the airtraffic controllers, Norad, and Flight 93.

Bush liked it. (http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,19043507%255E1702,00.html) What more do you need? :smirks:
US President George W. Bush has said the September 11 revolt of passengers against their hijackers on board Flight 93 had struck the first blow of "World War III".
I thought it was World War IV? (http://www.commentarymagazine.com/podhoretz.htm)
So confused... :dunno:

pokernuts's take is interesting. I always forget what I was wearing that day. At the time I kept thinking I was wearing dark clothes, but I looked down an realized I was wearing a t-shirt and jeans. I don't think I own any of those garments anymore.

That quote of Bush's is simply distorted and poor journalism. You should always be wary of sentences that end with a three word quote. Go to the source.
David Beamer, whose son Todd died in the crash, called it "our first successful counter-attack in our homeland in this new global war, World War III".
Bush said he agreed with the description, saying: "I believe that. I believe that it was the first counter-attack to World War III.
To be fair, he was set up a bit with the question. Bush isn't the brightest of fellows, and certainly doesn't have the charisma to dance around the question. Regardless, shouldn't condemn the man for someone else's thoughts. There are so many other things to find fault with, I find it sad that the media has to resort to this!
But, as for the film. It was very well done and not boring for a split second. It is a movie you don't want to watch, but owe it to the family of those involved to watch anyways.

I thought this was a good movie. Well worth seeing. It didn't feel like a 'Hollywood' movie. It felt like they wanted to be respectful of the people who died that day. No big name stars are in it to take the focus off of the event. It was a good movie to help remind us of what happened on September 11, 2001. :jump2:
I definitely agree. A lot of people find the movie to be distasteful, but the only people who have said that to me are people who haven't seen it. I saw it, and I thought it was quite tasteful and quite good. Definitely worth what I paid to see it.

Just watched the dvd.
Greengrass definitely deserves his Oscar Nom. The direction is excellent, and the film as a whole is tremendously well done.
Very tasteful, very classy, and a worthy tribute to the events of the day and the flight in particular.
Recommended.

I thought this film was fantastic. It was amazing that they were able to get a lot of people who actually lived through those events to be in the film. That made it so realistic. You could tell that they were not actors, but the real deal. A lot of the stuff that happens near the end is obviously pure fiction, but it was such a rewarding ending. The final shot is absolutely chilling. This is one of the best films of the decade and I can't recommend it highly enough.

I thought it was one of the best movies last year...very respectful and honoring of the people on that flight. I saw interviews with the family members and they were totally behind this movie. They felt people needed to see it, and so do I.
