EXCELLENT! Wasn't able to load the French one, so I just saw it for the first time. Craig looks awesome in action.

That was sweet ! And my translation from French, whilst ropey, wasn't a million miles away either.

Now THAT is James Bond!

I am going to say this one last time and then let it go..... Judith Dench should not be M in this movie. There. It's said and done. I will move on.

Craig looks perfect. I loved Pierce, but he never seemed dangerous to me. His best moment was the pre-credit sequence in TWINE.

In Fleming's The Spy Who Loved Me, the heroine, at first, mistakes Bond for just another hardened criminal. That is the look Craig has. I can't wait for this.

My God, was it really four years ago that we were all like this over on the Cinescape boards about DAD ?

I was actually thinking the same thing. She does now seem to be the odd element.

Too late now, her scenes are already in the can. I imagine the movie is 90% done by now.

LeiterCIA

Yep... It just seems odd that we have a new Bond, a "reset" Bond, an origin of Bond... but, the same new M from the last 4 films. Seems like the one area where they are just sweeping something under the rug, and asking us not to think too much about it.

In one respect, it almost gives off the feeling that the old Bond (Brosnan), has retired, and a new young guy has been promoted to fill the 007 position.

No Moneypenny, no Q.

I'm glad they kept Dench. I think it can be considered a coincidence of actor, like Charles Gray in YOLT and Charles Gray in DAF. They start fresh, and happen to cast the same actor in the same role.

These roles are hard to cast. Dench has it all; the dignity, the gravitas, the authority. Plus, casting Dench avoids all the stupid conversations about "should" they cast a woman or a man for the new M.

As more and more time goes by, I'm not really being bothered by some of the things they're doing with this movie, the re-boot, no Moneyenny or Q, Dench still as M, even the thing about the gun barrel isn't getting to me. The only thing that I'm still not over yet is replacing baccarat with Texas Hold'em. Other than that, this is looking to be a great movie and the teaser is totally hyping me up.:jump2: :jump2: :jump2: :jump2: :jump2: :jump2:

I personally think Patrick Stewart would make a great M, as a war-horse ex-00 agent himself who knows where Bond is coming from, but is now forced to tow the company line now that he is an executive so at least tacitly has to dissapprove of some of Bond's actions.

Oh, come on! Stewart is in a movie series with Jackman. Jackman is rumored to have turned down Bond. Wouldn't the whole thing look kind of weird?

I don't think anyone else would make that connection, Kara.

Talking with my brother about the trailer last night, he brought up something he read (I think on CBN) that would make sense to me regarding Dench.

I wouldn't mind her casting if she wasn't M yet in the movie. Like Bond is not yet a 00. That would be good... if she is a lower level "m" or maybe L :smirks: and then becomes M.

But that's just a fan suggestion. It is certain that she is M from beginning to end, correct?

That would be good... if she is a lower level "m" or maybe L and then becomes M.Except that I think the point of her character is that she is the old pro, at odds with this brash upstart. If they were both starting out in their careers the dynamic wouldn't be the same.

I think we just have to accept that this is a no-holds-barred reboot in the style of Batman Begins. As far as continuity is concerned the previous 20 films never happened.

When Jackman's name was first floated, everyone said, Oh, no, he can't be in two franchises! So yes, I think people would make the connection.

Oh, I meant the average movie goer. Not the obsessive Bond fan... in which I count myself.

Once again, we see in the trailer that M has an adverserial role with Bond ... this started with the Brosnan/Dench dynamic. I hope it doesn't carry on with Craig beyond CR.

I just don't recall M being so hostile with Bond. ... except for maybe Diamonds Are Forever where M is awfully insensitive to a guy who just saw his wife gunned down in front of him.

I am just assuming Comic Book continuity here.... i.e., there is NONE !

Okay, that trailer comforts me a little bit. However, I really have high expectations of this movie. Four years is a long wait. And I'm definitely going to be a royal b@$#$ if it doesn't out perform that other majorily improved spy movie that was recently release (Uncle you know what I'm talking about.) All I have to say, I expect Craig performance to make me say "Pierce who?" when I see it, and not make me say "He still looks like Clayton from the sitcom Benson!."

Great trailer.

I agree that Dench as M is incongruous. If memory serves, she already had her first meeting with Bond in Goldeneye: "I consider you a sexist misogynistic relic of the Cold War!" So now a second first meeting?! Hmm...

The entire series has always been somewhat incongruous. The only way to have made this perfectly in line with canon would be to set it back in the 1950's(which would have bee fine with me). But then canon has never been quite as important to most of the 007 fans as it has to the fans of other franchises.

As a battle-scarred veteran of the Star Trek: Enterprise years, I've learned there are some things you can change, some things you cannot. I think this will be a good Bond film, but not a good Bond origin film.

But at least Woody Allen's not in it.

I was skeptical on there being a new Bond, even though it was inevitable, but Now that I have seen the trailer I am psyched.

M is at her best: AKA the blunt instrument line. I must admit, I am starting to gain some enthusiam for this. I also liked the gun barrel shot. Might they do this for the opener instead of the usual walk out and pose? :jump2:

I am wondering if half the rumors that were circulating, (the black and white sequences, the gunbarrel) actually only pertained to the teaser.

Kara Milovy
05-09-2006, 12:55 PM
Felix, I think you're right. I think the information that Daniel Craig and Martin Campbell have been leaking to the media is all in the teaser.

Fargobah, I suspect this is "the" gunbarrel. My guess is we'll open directly directly into the black and white sequence, which will end with the gunbarrel bleed into color, at which point the titles will start.

(I'm not marking this spoiler because it's just my own guess.)

Fifty cents says they stick with the classic gunbarrel, pre-title, and titles.

I just watched the trailer, and my sense from it is they are returning to a more classic Bond, the one Ian Fleming envisioned. I liked the serious tone, and it was an effective trailer, as I was manipulated into expecting something good. I have been bitching about Casino Royale for more than 30 years now, and this is the realization of a long time desire of mine to see this story finally given a true Bond treatment, and not the silliness we got when the story was first released on film. So, happy days ahead as far as I'm concerned!

I saw the Casino Royale teaser on the big screen with Da Vinci Code last night. I do like what I see. Of course we always see the best stuff in the teasers and trailers .

I am concerned about the casting of Eva Green. She just doesn't do IT for me. I mean there are worse castings (Denise Richards, Teri Hatcher), but we'll have to see. "We don't need another Bond Bimbo" (sung to Tina Turner's We don't need another hero).

Anyway, Daniel Craig is seeming less risky then first thought. I'll miss Pierce but at least he finally got to do the role. Even Connery had to move on.

I can't really make any sort of determination on her yet, cause I havent heard her utter a word of dialogue. Just on looks alone, she does seem to be a little too... (not sure what I'm looking for here)... innocent? She's definitely got that super-cute 'doe in the headlights' look to her. Caterina Murino is the one who is dripping with exocitism. Looking forward to spending two hours with HER!
