It's easy to jam on the various over the top captains, but I have a candidate that I wonder how many really ever paid attention to?

Gates McFadden as Dr. Crusher!

She is just HORRIBLE as an actor. I just saw the episode of STNG where the crew was suffering from sleep depravation as they were stuck in some sort of rip in space. She was just rotten in it.

Anyone else have a candidate?

For me, pretty much the entire Voyager cast tops her.

Gates Mc Fadden was not bad. I likd her. She brought a real sense of moral conviction to her role as Doctor.

Marina Sirtis made me wince once or twice. As well as that Neelix guy...

For all it's failings as a show, I thought Enterprise had a great cast of fresh young actors. Can't blame then for the scripts they were given.

Connor Trineer reminds me of Richard Garner. I predict he could go far. And don't count out Linda Park either.

Oh, I always thought Will Wheaton as the worst- was there ever a less realistic character than Wesly Crusher? http://messageboard.cinescape.com/cinescape/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif

Hardly Wil's fault. And I always thought his later appearances as Wesley brought a certain dignity and class to the character that just was never deserved because of the early writing. He's no Sir Lawrence Olivier but to blame Wesley on Wil is hardly fair.

True, he was better when he finally grew some pubes and started to rebel a little.

I liked the episode with Nova Squadron. That to me was a little more believable than the younger, goody-two-shoes routine.

Final Mission (or whatever it was called) was a pretty good one... you know, the one where he and Picard are on a shuttle somewhere (piloted by James Cromwell, the future Zephram Cochrane) and it goes down. That was one of his better moments.

James Cromwell didn't play the shuttle pilot. The character's name was Dirgo, played by Nick Tate.

However, James Cromwell was in TNG on two occasions before the movie "First Contact". He played Nayrok in "The Hunted".

Cromwell also played a character named Jaglom Shrek in the two-parter "Birthright".

Oops. I guess my memory of all things TNG is not as sharp as it used to be.

Cromwell was also on an episode of DS:9. For what that's worth.

Cromwell (http://www.olivercromwell.org/) was also the "Lord Protector" of England, 1653-58.

Indeed. He was James Cromwell's great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, 17th cousin, thrice removed. I bet . . . :)

I dare you to prove I'm wrong . . . :)

Ashley Judd!!

Ashley Judd what? I hardly think she is anywhere near the worst actor to appear on ST.

Whoever said Ashley Judd smokes the weed.

Whoever said Ashley Judd smokes the weed.

Well, it wasn't me.

As for worst actor on any ST show, I'm confining that to regulars, and not guest stars. With that in mind, and although I can understand why people think of Gates McFadden and Marina Sirtis as bad actors, I think the fault lies more in their characters than with them. To me, the worst ACTOR on ST is/was Jonathan Frakes. He is an adequate actor, but I never saw any kind of depth to any of his performances. I did see depth in the performances of McFadden and Sirtis, and pretty much everyone else who played a regular on any Star Trek show. For the record, I especially liked Tim Russ as Tuvok on Voyager. I thought his performance in that role was very special.

I agree that Tim Russ was good. On the same note, the worst regular actor in Star Trek was on "Voyager". I just have so many to choose from on that show, but Russ was good.

I thought Tim Russ did absolutely one of the worst acting jobs on Voyager. The only time they were able to top him with regular characters was when the fused Tuvok and Neelix to form Tuvix.

Seriously, speaking in a monotonous baritone should not be the gold standard for playing a Vulcan. Spock and Sarek both had character to their voice but it was created by their delivery. They were both cool, logical figures but you could hear conviction in their voices. They believed what they said. They didn't need to speak in a low-pitched monotone to convince me that they were emotionless. All they had to do was portray emotionlessness.

Tim Russ played Tuvok the way Pablo Francisco plays The Movie Voice Guy.
