Hey, y'all, just so you know, Jon Favreau has started an Iron Man Movie forum in Myspace and answering some questions...

Here are some FAQs...

1. Did you read any of the earlier scripts written for this project?

No.

2. Tony's father, Howard Stark, was the antagonist in the earlier drafts, do you think he still will be a villain in your movie?

No.

3. Do you have a particular favorite artist rendition, or armor variation for Iron Man?

Granov

4. Will you be approaching this from the realm of reality (like Warren Ellis' run on the title, or from the realm of fantasy (like just about everyone else who's ever written the title)?

Reality.

5. In the context of the comic book, which era should we expect to see?

Present Day.

6. Do you prefer the circle or diamond shape on the chest?

I prefer the circle (the way he looked when I was a kid), but the diamond might look cooler. Dunno yet.

7. You made a point of saying that the villian in Iron Man wouldn't be magic based or mutated. Would you still be willing in a future film to use a character like Mandarin, who is considered Iron Mans greatest arch-enemy?

I can't imagine ever presenting Mandarin in the way he first appeared in Tales of Suspense in the sixties. I think it would blow the reality of the movie. That isn't to say, however, that we would not draw from these characters. I just think we have to make choices in tone as well as overcome the inconsistencies of the forty years of the books.

8. Do you favour making Iron Man's suit practically, out of CG, or a combination of both?

A combo. The suit in action could lend itself quite well to CG. Metal sells better than flesh in CG. We would do a build as well, but much CGI in this movie.

9. Do you think this movie is signalling a new direction in your career as a director?

I know that the effects thing is definitely a new club in my golf bag. We'll see how it goes. I may be sick of it in two years.

10. Have you got anybody in mind for specific parts right now? (no need to say who, just yes or no :-) )

Not yet.

11. Can we expect to see war machine in this movie?

Not yet. It's a fun thought for sequels. Especially if we get someone cool for Rhodes.

12. Of all the infamous iron man villains, who do you favor? and also who do you think would suit the movie well?

Not at liberty yet...

13. Jim Rhodes or no Jim Rhodes ?

Jim Rhodes

14. When do you plan on releasing the film? Summer of '07? Fall of '07? Or sometime in 2008?

2008

15. Goatee or mustashe what's your choice ?

Dunno yet.

16. Will Stark be a tech-fiend or just a guy in a suit? To my way of thinking the suit is just an aspect of Ironman, but Ironman is a guy obsessed with gadgets. We going to see crazy add ons to his car, house, er... pets? :P

Tech fiend guy in a suit.

17. Weapons Manufacturer or do-good philanthropist?

Weapons Manufacturer

18. Are you signed for a 3 pic deal?

No.

19. Is there any film that you'd like to remake? There are so many cool ones coming out like Posedion, Clash of the Titans, etc...

Must Love Dogs.

20. Do you have a favorite design for the armor?

I like the look of the Extremis armor.

21. Will we only be seeing one Ironman suit in the movie or a variety of them? Will the suit go through an evolution during the movie or is that for sequels?

We plan on more than one look.

22. Would you prefer a well known actor or an unknown for IM?

Still discussing it. Not sure yet. There are a lot of good well known actors. We are by no means required to use a star to get this movie made. We'll do what's best for the film.

23. Does a darker tone seem more likely for this picture (ie Daredevil or Batman Begins) or will it be more of a lighter super hero movie? (ie Fantastic Four or Spider-Man)?

In between.

24. Have u kissed Vince Vaughn? (and if you have, did u like it?)

Just his ass. Tasted like chicken.

25. Will there only be one villain in the movie or more than one?

Not sure yet.

26. Will we get to see some form of his classic original gray clunky suit?

Yes.

27. Jon, one thing that can cause problems in superhero movies is when you can't see the hero's face. You lose the expressions. This was evident in Spiderman with the Goblin. Dr. Doom was a little troublesome, also. Any thoughts to altering the facemask or helmet? Maybe something that would disguise his features but allow for detail of some kind?

You've identified an issue that I also feel is extremely important to address. I have some ideas about how to overcome the "Power Rangers" issue without sacrificing the traditional look of the character and costume. I don't think it wise to go into these ideas which are pure specultion at this point. Know that we share the same concerns.

28. Just checked out Adi Granovs MySpace Page. I've always been a big fan of his stuff. Is he gonna be involved with iron man?

I'm a fan as well. I think you will be pleased in the direction we are going.

29. Are you planning on using a lot of CGA, and it's only my personal view, but i really think peple over the years have gotten to CGA happy.

I agree that CGA(CGI?) is overused. It's funny that you give Spiderman as an example of a film that showed proper restraint in its use of CGI. It has more CG than any film I could think of.

30. Are we looking at doing this movie from the "first suspense" comic book where ironman made his first appearance?

Yes. We will tell the origin story that keeps with the Tales of Suspense mythology. I prefer, however, the Extremis flashback's take on it.

31. With a most likely PG13 rating, how much of stark's drinking and other less than heroic characteristics will be shown? For example, we lossed druggie harry osborn in spidey 2 and only got him sipping 1 drink and acting drunk, and he was the villian in a sense. will we see the hero drink? Ironman's faults make him the man, the sit makes him iron.

Alcoholism didn't play a huge role until later in his career and should not become too much of a factor in the first film. This has nothing to do with the rating.

32. If you could choose the superpower of a horrendous, numbing stench or a blinding sun-like penis, which would you choose?

Could I turn the penis off, or is it like Cyclops where I would need to wear some sort of visor over it?

33. Simple question: Lots of flying, especially in the fight scenes?

There will be plenty of flying. Was that question really a nail-biter?

34. Will Ironman have his repulser technology?

Yes.

35. What movies are you watching to help you prepare for the film?

Robocop, The Golem, Appleseed, Ghost in the Shell, Rocketeer, Batman Begins.

36. What are the possibilities of Stark getting injured while over at Iraq, kind of like a nod to him getting injured in Vietnam in the comic?

Afghanistan, most likely.

Very informative. I like that it's going to be in a more modern presence.

Can't wait for 2008!

Very interesting! I always liked Favreau........he's a Queens, N.Y. native like myself.

(Not much here for me to add, huh?)

It's a slow day, peeps! The talk of the day seems to be going on in Xavier's Acadamy (and with good reason).

I think the way around this is to use tight closeups of the actor's face (lit by the helmet's interior tech) as if it's shot from inside the helmet. Thay way you get the needed reaction shots, plus potenial POV shots looking out from inside the helmet.

If that makes sense

Yeah, it does.

Plus, it's kind of like IM's trademark. I've seen more than a few shots of Tony's face while he's inside the helmet.

In my opinion I think the best way to show his emotions is by showing the mental vision of Tony when he's inside the suit. I've seen it done in the comics, where he has like 10 screens in front of him and he's standing, and...naked.

Other than the naked part, I think that should be a good way of showing his emotions in the film.

Like, a virtual self? Hmm, maybe. I don't know, might be too confusing for everybody.

They shouldn't have anything remotely resembling Stark naked  in this movie. But if they want to have the version of Iron Man where Bethany Cabe wore the suit, then naked might be the way to go. :D

I read the interview questions already, and I see that Jon Favreau's not saying one way or the other who his choice is for Tony/Iron Man.......but are there any new reports surfacing AT ALL about any choices that HE'D like to think on?? I'm sure that he's not really giving out any information right now.......but...... I just thought that .........he may have let something slip while speaking recently.

Well, no, so far he is writing and planning, but so far, he hasn't said anything about actors, yet.

But this guy is being bombarded with as many actor suggestions as he is with story ideas and songs for the movie. I tried to sneak in a Matthew Fox suggestion, but so far, I'd say the favorite would have to be Oded Fehr.

But, I'll try to keep up with that thread, as much as possible.

EASILEEEE!
Thanks for updating me on that.

Is there a way that I, myself, can make a suggestion to him as to who to cast as Tony/Iron Man? Please........SHARE this information with me!

Thought that this is as good as any thread in this forum to post this......but Jon Favreau is saying that Iron Man will be going before the cameras in February of next year. Man, this thing is moving FAST, huh people??

I thought the announced release date is May 2, 2007? It does sound a bit early but I think they can manage it. Okay, it is hard to start filming with no cast but I think they'll have to push the date to august 07 or something. Like Ghost Rider. He was soppose to come out about now and he's now slated for Feb 07...

isn't Spidey 3 gonna come out may 4th? don't you think that putting the release dates for two marvel movies so close together is a little weird? i do....

Well as long as it is a summer movie and not a Feb movie. Feb movies always suggest something isn't quite right or that the studio isn't confident.

On another note, why doesn't Favreau get his own website instead of using a myspace.com blog?

Hmmmm.......that IS an interesting point, WC.

Maybe that's what's going to be upcoming when the cameras finally start rolling on this? You know, he has the studio put a website together with great graphics and the like, etc. etc.

For right now, maybe it's just cheaper to do it on MySpace.com(?)

Yup, it costs $0.00 for Myspace to be used as a news feeder for the film. But a web site costs..I think...$15 a year? I don't know but point is it costs more.

But is it more professional to do it on Myspace? I don't think so. I really don't like the format Myspace uses too. I think maybe they'll have to make a Iron Man movie site but I don't think it's that important. We still get the news.

And we all know Jon Favreau is strapped for cash right now since his career took a dive after Swingers. :D

Yeah, they probably will have an Iron Man movie site eventually, but what I'm wondering is why Favreau doesn't have his own celebrity site like say other celebs who often post their own news there or even have a blog. Favreau using Myspace is like him having a hotmail account for his professional emails. Imagine: jonfavreau2006@hotmail.com (because someone else had already taken jonfavreau already) How amateurish does that sound?

Perhaps he's doing it also so as to keep his "regular guy" thing going really well. He's a professional, working actor/director right now, but we'll never confuse him with some of the other big name actor/directors out there because that's the way he'd like it kept. Maybe myspace just allows him to be able to "keep it real" as the saying goes............yes? no?? Anyone agree.......disagree?? PLEASE.........SHARE! 8)

When a small time director gets to do this big blockbuster type Superhero movie I think his title as being a regular guy starts to turn into "Superstar Director!"...Well that's only if the movie is good. If it's a disapointment like Fantastic Four then he might go back to being a regular director again.

Tim Story...U fool. Jon Favreau...U can do it! :D

Did anyone hear that Favreaue announced that, "The suit will be more like a weapons platform than a flying suit – more of a War Machine-feel to it."

Did anyone hear that Favreaue announced that, "The suit will be more like a weapons platform than a flying suit – more of a War Machine-feel to it."

That's the supposed 3rd suit that will be featured.
He's said there will probably be 3 different armors in the film (a marketing-man's dream-- imagine the action figure possibilities).
1st design - a rough, made-in-a-cave look
2nd design - yellow and red flight suit, more traditional look
3rd design - the "weapons playform" War Machine look
