I wonder if the US will be left with any friends anywhere in the world by the time these jerks leave office...
The frustrating thing is, Cheney's right about human rights abuses, corruption and authoritarianism in China and particularly Russia. It's just a little difficult to take seriously, considering the source...
Neocon Hawks Looking for New and Bigger Enemies? (http://www.antiwar.com/lobe/?articleid=8950)
As if rallying fading public support for keeping more than 100,000 U.S. troops in a disintegrating Iraq and preparing the ground for a possible military attack on Iran were not enough, some influential hawks are now promoting a more confrontational stance against Russia and China, as well.
Their eagerness to take on new and bigger enemies, signaled by Vice Pres. Dick Cheney's blistering verbal assault on Russia Thursday, could be a calculated effort to intimidate the two Eurasian giants at a moment when the US and the European Union (EU) appear to have forged greater unity on key foreign policy issues than at any time since Washington invaded Iraq three years ago.

Classic example of the coldheartedness of an old broken fart who thinks he won't have to do any of the fighting.
He disgusts me. He was never worthy to wear the uniform.

Russia? China? Iran? These are the priorities of this administration?
So this no longer applies?
From President Bush in the January 31, 2006 State of the Union Speach
Quote:
"Abroad, our nation is committed to an historic, long-term goal -- we seek the end of tyranny in our world. Some dismiss that goal as misguided idealism. In reality, the future security of America depends on it."
"Once again, we accept the call of history to deliver the oppressed, and move this world toward peace."
Okay. So why have we not "poured" troops over the borders of Darfur? Is this not his mission? IS this type of genocide (on a much smaller scale, mind you) one of the laundry list of reasons we've bankrupted ourselves in Iraq?
33% of America still supports these idiots. :ohwell:

Well, I don't think it would be a good idea to send troops into Sudan either. But the point is, the US would be in a much better position to advocate for improvements of human rights in all of these countries, as well as others, had it not been for the twin fiascoes of Afghan and Iraq. Not to mention the staggering corruption in Washington.

I found the following remark, quoted in that article, to be interesting:
"If he's coming to my town, I'm going to let him know he's not welcome here and that Oklahomans are not as bright as they think," said Laurie Keeley, 25, a protester from Tulsa
Isn't Tulsa in Oklahoma? Isn't she insulting herself? Misprint? If not, I don't think she has to worry much. :)

Its funny how years ago President Reagan spent years trying to set up a lot of beliefs and organizations to help this country, but now years later, The Bush Administration, which consists a great deal of members from the Reagan era, are doing exactly the opposite.
And since when is liberal and conservative considered bad and anti-republican? People seem to forget after all this republican bias and propaganda that real Republican beliefs are a great deal conservative and also consist of party liberal beliefs as well.
But now those beliefs are considered extremists, anti american, communist, etc..
I get going on Politics. and really, I could debate politics for hours :)

If you want to understand where the current Administration is coming from, you have to understand the neo-conservative movement (neocons). Oil is a big part of it too, but I think the left tend to overemphasize the importance of oil when trying to explain Bush's Mideast policy. Neo-cons have an agenda which goes way beyond grabbing a few oil fields.
May I suggest these sources:
Good Wikipedia page on neoconservatives: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neocon)
In foreign policy, critics argue that neoconservatives tend to view the world in 1939 terms, comparing the threat from adversaries as diverse as the Soviet Union, Osama bin Laden (and, more broadly, Islamofascism), and China to the threat then-posed by Nazi Germany and Japan, while American leaders such as Reagan and Bush stand in for Winston Churchill. In this analogy, leftists and others who oppose them, are cast either as Neville Chamberlain-style appeasers or as an Anti-American fifth column.
Even better article by Justin Raimondo on Antiwar.com: (http://www.antiwar.com/justin/?articleid=7294)
While "liberty" and "freedom" are the bywords of the neoconservative Right, the cult's philosophers – notably Leo Strauss – were and are advocates of rule by an elite. The ignorant masses, according to Strauss and his followers, are kept in thrall by various delusions – such as religion, ethics, and social conventions of one sort or another – that keep society together and that it is the duty of the philosophers to uphold. While they (the all-knowing, all-wise philosophers, that is) know the awful truth – which is that all values are relative, that good and evil are merely labels of convenience, and that brute force is what really rules the world – the general populace is better left in happy ignorance, while the philosopher-kings alone are fit to bear the burden of truth.
Neocon 101 (http://www.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/neocon101.html?story)
"Neocons" believe that the United States should not be ashamed to use its unrivaled power – forcefully if necessary – to promote its values around the world. Some even speak of the need to cultivate a US empire. Neoconservatives believe modern threats facing the US can no longer be reliably contained and therefore must be prevented, sometimes through preemptive military action.
Etcetera. Neocons have become the driving force in the Republican Party, alongside their Evangelical allies (sometimes called theocons). It remains to be seen if the Democrats will follow their lead as well.
