You forgot to add Jon Peters as the crazy villian behind it all. Singer at least meant well. Peters, in a previous incanation of the film, wanted Sean Penn as Superman because he looked like a 'caged animal'. Check out what Kevin Smith said about his meeting with Peters. A number of places online have posted his comments.

Biggest mistake of the MANY that were made?
Making yet another Superman Vs. Donald Trump without the toupee film.
Of the 4 Films that went before, 3 had Lex Luthor as the main or secondary villain. The one film without Hackman's irritatingly comical L.L. had a poorly acted clone of the character in his place.
Supes has a decent if not Batman worthy Rogues Gallery and NO ONE has ever dipped into it.
Where's Doomsday or Brainiac or Parasite or even Bizarro?
Hollywood needs to buy a clue.

... Or Lobo!
You're right, and it looks like they're bringing Zod back for the sequel...
Zod and Luther, THATS never been done before...
Let's get Darkseid in there, Darkseid and Apocalyps, and have Supes team up with Lobo to take him down...

Poor Brandon Routh. I think he had the most innocent, and fan-worthy intent going into the film. C'mon, a Clark/Superman costume at a Halloween party, seeing kids in the hospital, genuine reverence for Reeve. Singer, a masterfull technician seems, now only to have been obsessed with recreating the original films using today's technology. Well crafted, but utterly unoriginal. Wish those guys would have watched a few episodes of Smallville for a clue on taking well established characters and putting them into a fresh, modern context.
