Ok, so... do I really need to buy a whole new collection of Bond DVDs? Is there really anything more they can squeeze into the new set??

'GoldenEye' Set For Uncut 'Ultimate Edition' DVD Release
New '15' certificate for Pierce Brosnan's debut film

Written by Devin Zydel (10 May, 2006, 00:00)

The upcoming 'Ultimate James Bond 007' DVD release of GoldenEye will be, for the first time, uncut, featuring previously missing scenes.

As the new DVD cover for GoldenEye shows, the Bond film will be released in the UK uncut for the first time. The certificate has thus been raised from a '12' to a '15' (a certificate that is shared by only one other Bond film--Licence To Kill).

As collected on the IMDb, GoldenEye has had an interesting history with the censors on both sides of the Atlantic. The headbutts featured during the battles between Xenia Onatopp and James Bond, as well as Bond and Alec Trevelyan had all been removed for the UK release. The US release (which features a PG-13 rating) reportedly trims down the shooting of Trevelyan during the pre-title sequence, the scene of the attack on Severnaya by Xenia, as well as her own death.

No word yet on whether or not the Licence To Kill 'Ultimate Edition' DVD release will be uncut or if the eventual US DVD release of GoldenEye will be uncut as well.

The GoldenEye 'Ultimate Edition' special features:
GoldenEye

* DECLASSIFIED: MI6 VAULT Deleted Scenes With Introductions by Director Martin Campbell
* Directing Bond: The Martin Chronicles
* Building a Better Bond: Pre-Production Featurette
* The Return of Bond - The Start of Production Press Event

* Anatomy of a Stunt: Tank Versus Perrier
* Making it in Small Pictures: Derek Meddings
* On Location With Peter Lamont
* GoldenEye: The Secret Files

I always kinda wondered about the "shooting" of Trevelyan in the teaser. As it looks now it's easier to believe that Ourumov might have aimed just to the side and Trevelyan faked his death tumble... but if we actually see a scene of a bullet impact it makes a lot less sense.

But as to the repackaging with new features... grr... double-dipping apparently knows no bounds.

I'll be picking up the set, since I have only a select few I bought used of the first releases. Can't wait to see the ones I havent seen in W I D E S C R E E N. In particular, I heard Thunderball in it's original 2.35:1 format is SO much better than the Pan & Scam version. Hope they say when region 1 gets it soon. Obviously closer to the release of CR in November than region 2's July release, but how much closer, I wonder. I hope the don't wait all the way to the tuesday before CR's release. I'm hoping October at the latest.

I was thoroughly happy with my quintessential (sp?) collection, complete with custom covers... now I have to wonder if any new additions, are worth expanding the collection to include whatever the new stuff is?

Welcome to the DVD dilemma.... the Lucas fans can sympathize.

It's killing me, actually. Because it looks like EVERY ONE of these DVDs has new features and featurettes, plus Moore recorded commentary for all of his movies, plus digital remastering, plus the cool carry-case.

I was thinking of financing the purchase by selling the old ones on ebay.

Upon examination, it appears that every one of the new DVDs is a 2-disc set. I might just HAVE to have them.

I think I might rent the Goldeneye DVD when it's released, just to check it out and see if it's worth getting, and collecting all 20 (or 21).

I only have 2 or 3 of the movies on DVD (though I have the entire collection plus extras on VHS), so starting fresh on DVD shouldn't be as much of a struggle for me. Do you suppose they will be releasing all the new special DVDs for each movie at the same time, or span them out?

There's a collectible carrying case thingy, so I suspect you'll be able to buy the whole set.

Yeah, that's a good thing, even if it will cost a pretty penny! I wonder if the set will include the "non-official" Bond movies as well (i.e. the 1954 TV production of Casino Royale with the restored ending, the 1967 farce of CR, and Never Say Never Again.....probably not, but I can always hope)!

The announcements so far seem to indicate no non-official movies.

Is this only available in the UK???
So far, yes, but do you really think Sony is going to miss the opportunity to market this to U.S. fans?

No, me neither.

I just hope that we get the cool case that goes with the DVDs. So many other box-sets in different regions get awesome packages like that with region 1 gets them in boring carboard boxes. I guess it still might be a up to a couple more months till we get a R1 announcment.

I hear there is a new Special Edition DVD of Ronin, which contains a preview of the new 007 Special Special Edition DVD set. I might have to check it out.

Not to mention, I wouldnt mind having Ronin on my shelf finally.

Yeah, I figured that would probably be the case. But I was hoping otherwise.....
