Yes, ladies, gentlemen and kev_incal, it's that time of year once again! The 2006 DCG Awards (aka the Golden Robbos) are right around the corner. The cut-off date to be eligible for this year's awards is October 31st, 2006. For more info on the categories and process, see below. As in the last couple years, we're going with the nomination panel and email ballots. The nominations will be posted (barring delays) on November 15th, and the results will be posted on November 30th.
I've started a "For Your Consideration" thread where you can all pimp your best work from this past year (just your own work though; let other artists pimp themselves). Go and make sure the nomination panel doesn't miss any of your masterpieces!
Questions? Comments? Bribes? Lemme know! :D

DCG Awards 2006
1. The categories are as follows:
Unless otherwise noted, "the eligible period" means 11/01/2005 to 10/31/2006, inclusive.
Best Artist: the artist who has produced the most impressive body of artwork during the eligible period.
Best Image: the single best image (manip, drawing, whatever) of the eligible period.
Best Illustrator: the artist who has produced the best body of traditional, ie non-photomanipulation, artwork during the eligible period.
Best Scene: the best scene of the eligible period. Must contain at least two characters interacting with each other in some way, ie, not just a group portrait.
Best Original Character: the best character created by a DCG artist. The quality of the actual image should be given equal weight with the idea of and the backstory of the character. Note this is an award for a character, not for an image.
Best Display of Power: the image with the best depiction of a character's superpowers. This includes both energy effects (ie, Cyclops' eye beams) and physical effects (ie, Fathom's water form)
Best New Artist: the most impressive artist to have made their debut between 10/01/2005 and 10/31/2006. Must have a minimum of 5 images submitted during the eligible period. Artists who debuted in October 2005 and were eligible for a nomination for last year's awards (ie, who posted five images or more during that month) are ineligible.
Most Improved Artist: the artist that has shown the most improvement between their debut and their most recent work. This is the only category where an artist's entire ouevre is considered. As former winners, Zac, Miss Jellybrain and B are ineligible for this award.
Best Theme Day Image: the best image submitted for a DCG Theme Day such as X-Mas, Hallowe'en, etc.
Best Comedic Image: the funniest pic of the eligible period. Picture quality is not as important as the picture being funny.
Best Colorist: the artist who has done the most impressive work during the eligible period in colouring traditional (ie, non-photomanipulated) art. This can include both artists who colour their own work, and those who colour the work of others.
Best 3D Image: The best image produced entirely or mostly in 3D Rendering software such as Poser, Bryce, Maya, etc. Small amounts of post production are acceptable, but the figures, costumes and background must all mostly be done in 3D.
Best DC Portrait: The best portrait of a character or group of characters taken from comics published by DC Comics, including Vertigo and all other DC imprints. Scenes are not eligible. Traditional art is.
Best Marvel Portrait: The best portrait of a character or group of characters taken from comics published by Marvel Comics, including ICON, Epic and all other Marvel imprints. Scenes are not eligible. Traditional art is.
Best Other Portrait: The best portrait of a character or group of characters taken from one or more source(s) other than DC or Marvel, including Indy comics, anime, and whatever else you can think of. This also includes group portraits including both DC and Marvel characters. Scenes are not eligible. Traditional art is.
Best Traditional Art: The best individual drawing, painting or other non-manipped artwork... basically, anything made from scratch rather than from other people's photos or artwork. This includes digital paintings, Illustrator work, etc. It does not include Poser or other 3D art.
Also, I'm accepting "unofficial" awards this year. So, if you want to give awards for things not covered in the official set of categories, you'll be able to append a few lines to your ballot to give out your own personal choices for, saaay... Best Lighting, Best Costume Redesign, Best Metal, Most Original Manip, Most Disturbing Manip... anything at all, really, though anything you write will, of course, be subject to editorial intervention if necessary. You can also give out forum awards for Funniest Poster, Best .sig, Best Avatar, etc. No "worsts" please... if you try to give out any, they'll be summarily excised.
2. Nomination process. Nominees will be decided by a panel of artists who'll sift through everything that's been submitted this year and pick out the cream of the crop. Each panelist will rank their top five picks in each category from 1 (favourite) to 5 (least favourite). These picks will be awarded points as follows:
1 = 5 points
2 = 4 points
3 = 3 points
4 = 2 points
5 = 1 point.
Panelists can vote for themselves, but they will not be nominated unless other people vote along similar lines. (The system I'm using for the nominations means that unless everyone in the panel votes for five totally different nominees, a pic or artist has to get votes from more than one panellist to get nominated.)
I am the sole public face of the awards. If anyone has any problems with the nominations or winners, please direct that at me.
You can use the "DCG Awards For Your Consideration" thread to put forth your work for consideration by the Nomination Panel. Want to make sure we don't miss that amazing pic you contributed to the Ultimates theme day? Or that gorgeous portrait of Supergirl you think is a shoo-in for Best DC Portrait? This will be where you remind us of them! Note that an image does not have to be mentioned in the "For Your Consideration" thread to be nominated. The panel will be looking through the whole gallery, not just those images that people mention. But this thread is a good way to get your name out there, and it ensures that we won't be able to accidentally miss out on your work.
3. Voting: We're sticking with email ballots. I will provide a form where you can fill in your picks for each official category, and with additional space where you can type up unofficial awards, forum awards, or the like (see above). You guys simply have to fill out the form and email it to dcgawards@yahoo.com.
4. Eligibility: As noted above, an image must have been posted in the gallery between 11/01/2005 and 10/31/2006, inclusive, to be eligible for the awards. Everyone who has posted to the DCG is eligible, including the panellists and myself.
