Lost is renewed, of course, and keeping it's time slot, but here's the catch. from tvguide.com:

"Lost will launch it's third season with seven consecutive new episodes, temporarily cede its timeslot to midseason thriller "Day Break" and then return for an uniterrupted run in January or late February"

Discuss. Good? Bad? Otherwise?

Thank god because I was gonna quit watching ABC, and Download the eps and watch them like that anyway. Now I won't have to.

I don't understand why they don't just show the entire season starting in January. It seems a bit silly to run 7 episodes and then run the remaining 15 episodes after a long break.

From what I read, rather than have two or three new episodes, then two or three weeks off, by splitting the season in this fashion they can show one complete story arc, go on hiatus for a while, then show the rest of the season all at once.

I do have to admit, though, that I really prefer the all-at-once approach, like Fox does with "24." Perhaps since "Lost" doesn't have to connect their entire season together in the same manner, they can split the season into shorter story arcs and it won't be so jarring.

What I've been asking for! In post after post, pleading with ABC to do with LOST like FOX does with 24.

Of course, they aren't going all the way with it, like they should ....but it's a start.

I too, was losing interest in Lost. All because of archaic programming methods. The month long break in December/January, would kill a show less popular.

But they WON'T complete a story arc. They'll leave it on some obnoxious, huge cliffhanger. Of course they will! Yeah, this drives me crazy. Well, we'll see what happens.

The plan for season 3 is a VAST improvement over this season. The break in the middle is still irritating but you can look at it as seasons 3.1 and 3.2. Kind of what Battlestar Galactica did with it's second season on Sci-Fi. I really didn't mind that. You got two season cliff-hangers in one season.

ABC actually listened to complaints and took a hint from the ratings drop... it was a smart move.

this is what Cinescape reported:

Much like popular shows 24 and Battlestar Galactica, Lost will be airing without repeats next season.
The network confirmed the good news yesterday. To accomplish this, the show will take a break over Christmas for a few weeks. It will then begin again and run uninterrupted until the season ends in May.

"The plan is that Lost will come on in the Fall in the first or second week of the season, run for seven episodes and then "Day Break" will launch into that period and Lost will come back in January or early February and run straight through for the remainder for the season".

Reports also added that no new cast members will be climbing aboard the island next year.

Cinescape reported this today:

LOST is looking to add two new actresses to the cast for the upcoming third season. No word yet on who it might be.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of them is the woman that plays Penny - and maybe the other will be Ms. Klugh.

I'm not digging the huge hiatus news...although I did read that it's because it takes a long time to film. Not sure if that's truth or just an excuse.

I've heard that as well. I think the show may take longer to plot and write than an average hourlong drama, so it doesn't surprise me much.

I don't see Penny getting stuck on the island. But then again, why would they have shown her off of the island if they weren't going to have her be a maja playa? Good point.
