According to Kristen at E!, (http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/Trans/Archive2006/060515c.html) Michael might die in this episode and it seems his contract has either not been renewed or has been greatly reduced.

Hello?
Why is no one talking about this yet?

I dunno. Did anything really happen? I mean, we found out that Michael believes what he told the rest of the Losties, but that's about it.

Wait a min. So Jack goes to make a trade Henry for Walt. The others release Micheal to go let Henry out. Why didn't they just Trade Henry for Walt anyway. That just proves they have a Trick up their sleave. Also why wasn't Locke on the Others list. I guess Henry was just F'n with him.

My main point of observation.
"They're pretending." Pretty much speaks to what I was thinking all along.
And I did notice something in the previews for the finale.
The notebooks in the tubes end up in a big pile in the middle of nowhere. More of the Skinner mind fuck

Gale was definitely messing with Locke. So what do Jack, Sawyer, Kate and Hurley have in common? ...I mean, besides from conveniently all being together in the Hatch when Michael said only THEY could go.
Another thing.... why did this episode alter the typical LOST structure? I mean it still had flashbacks but chose the "13 days earlier" and "3 days earlier" thing instead of just having the normal LOST flashback transitions. An odd choice.
So, where did Locke walk off to at the end?

It was a bit anticlimactic, however I'm usually bored quickly with any episode that simply retells the same story over again. Though after the last two episodes I can see why. I'm glad that at least Sayid was able to pick up on the fact that Michael just ain't acting right. There were lots of little snippets of stuff I liked though:
- Jack & Sawyer having a little buddy-buddy moment down there with the guns.
- Charlie throwing away the drugs and finally showing a little backbone for a change.
- Locke taking off his splint and going to do his own thing again.
- The way Walt reacted to seeing Michael and the little snippets of information they threw in there ("They make me take tests...")
Minion: Probably shouldn't have screamed "Colonel Mustard in the library with the candlestick!" when that lady introduced herself as Ms. Clue.

This has been my biggest problem with this series. Too much constantly going back over what has already happened. Do they think we are too stpid to remember??? they have wasted so much screen time with that stuff.
I am losing my patience with this show and am on the verge of dumping it from my watching schedule.
However, I hope Michael gets killed. He deserves it.

Oh god I was bored.
However, I feel like this episode was a prologue to the season finale next week. Not every episode can be edge-of-your-seat-action.
I wonder if Kristen's spoiler is true or not - just maybe not for this episode.

Agreed... all good moments. Jack and Sawyer seem to have moments like this in the season's penultimate episodes. They shared a moment last season when Sawyer told Jack about his father.
Glad to see the writers making these characters act with a little more common sense. Sawyer telling Michael to suck it up and let the guy who actually WAS in an army be a part of the raiding party. Sayid seeing through Michael's, less than subtle, mania. All good.
I didn't mind this episode. ...we had to see what happened with Michael and we got to see Walt again. His fear showed that these Others are a bad group of people.

Best line...
"I screwed her."
I also loved when Vincent brought Charlie the statue.
Queen Mae

Vincent is EVIL!!!
;)
He led Shannon to her death and Charlie to his addiction. Of course, in the end Charlie overcame his addiction - a resolution I am very happy for, although I think Charlie's storyline as a recovering addict wasn't treated very well - I think the writers have never seen a recovering addict before.
Anyway, Vincent keeps getting the Losties into trouble.

Maybe VINCENT is the "him" the Others keep talking about! And the island is all a big experiment our canine masters have arranged to further bring us under their dominion. :D

Good episode but i'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Boat... I think that dog actually might be evil it seems to keep doing bad things, and i did love Sawyer's line to Jack "I screwed her" that was the funniest moment of the season.

I can't make comments on the boat because my speculation about who is on it is spoilerish - so, I'm going to the finale thread to talk about it :D

Vincent is the yellow dog of doom... every time he shows up, something bad happens.
I kind of liked that we got to find out what happened to Michael when he was gone. They had to show the time line at the bottom as it all takes place on the island and everyone is pretty much wearing the same clothes as they were 2 weeks ago. I would have been very confusing to some people otherwise.
I have been wracking my brain all day to figure out why those 4 people and how they all managed to be in the hatch at the same time. A friend suggested that it had to do with selective breeding... to which I replied, "With Hurley??? "
Queen Mae
05-18-2006, 01:49 PM
Yeah, I don't understand why those specific people. I understand Jack & Kate because they have taken leadership positions on the island, but I don't understand Hurley or Sawyer. I assume/hope we'll find out in the finale.

I would assume Hurley because of his connection with the numbers.

My daughter considered the number connection, but everyone knows the numbers (well, everyone who's taken a turn in the hatch). He just used them, he didn't come up with them... he got them from a mental patient.
Of course, I can't come up with anything better, so it could be right.

Maybe because they all have had visions?
Cooper

I thought that the visions might have been it but I hit a brick wall with Sawyer... unless we're counting the boar he hunted.
Jack - His Father
Kate - The horse
Hurly - His fellow mental patient
Sawyer - the boar?? not really an Island vision. I mean he placed a lot of meaning into the boar but it's not like he actually saw the guy he murdered.

also Sayid since he saw a vision of Walt. So nevermind that theory.

Put me firmly in the "really enjoying every episode" camp. I don't get you guys who were bored. This episode was great from the first moment to the last. Maybe I'm just more sympathetic towards Michael and therefore latched onto his story more than the rest of you. *shrug*
Jakester
05-19-2006, 05:32 AM
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy most episodes, but they just don't leave me satisfied for the most part. They're fun, but I keep expecting more, and we usually don't get it. Maybe that has more to do with the fact that time is moving more slowly on the island than we're expecting. Michael's been missing for how many episodes? It was 12 days losties time (he set out on day 13, right?). S-L-O-W. The only show that moves more slowly in character time is 24, but the shit goes down on that show all the time.

05-19-2006, 08:45 AM
I also don't mind a "slow" episode now and then. If I wanted a constant feeling that I was having a heart attack, I'd watch 24. Wait a minute, I DO watch 24. :-) But that's not what I'm after in Lost. I enjoy the quiet moments.
Jakester
05-19-2006, 09:09 AM
I enjoy the quiet bits too. Character development is great. I don't know. It feels like the show goes nowhere fast. WTF is up with the dust monster?
Maybe a large part of it is the airdates and the long breaks in between episodes. It just feels like it's so long before we get any new information or we see these weird/important things happening and then like a month later we get a new episode and the characters aren't dealing with it. It's frustrating.
Elda, boobage is beautiful. Learn it. Know it. Live it.

Jake is very verbal.
Sometimes rather demanding in the moment and occasionally a screamer. But I don't see how this pertains to Lost.

Don't talk about my sister like that. It grosses me out, and if you really gross me out, I'll cut of your dork, shove it in your mouth, poke your eye out, and skullfuck the socket. (edit to keep it Lost relevant) Kinda like Sawyer wants to do to Zeke.

*Ahem* I can vouch for that. There is never too much boobage. And as for as context is concerned whenever it appears, its in context. :)

Okay, so here are my thoughts after the second viewing.
Walt tells Michael that "they are not who they say they are." Meaning, in my mind, they are not primitives. Also, notice that Miss Clue seems to be genuinely surprised/concerned about Walt's abilities. Almost as if they didn't realize who/what he was until they had him.
Please tell me that Claire is not so much of an idiot that she'd inject herself and Aaron without consulting Jack first. I mean, Charlie, sure, he'd do it, but not Claire!

I immediately thought that they were not really primitive when Walt said they were pretending. For about a second, I thought, maybe there are two groups. Ethan with one, in the hatch, doing experiments and wearing disguises, and another living in the forest, in tents, not wearing shoes. But about a second later, I remembered that Alex tied them together.
You know, I am kind of irritated that everyone was right about Walt being psychic. I don't see how that is going to further the story. Plus, I just can't stand whiny, bratty kids, and their whiny, bratty fathers who kill people, even though that wasn't one of the things they were asked to do. I am glad that at least Sayid saw Michael for the twitchy liar that he is, because I was getting seriously pissed that he was going to get away with shooting Ana and Libby. I am disappointed that Ecko is taking over the hatch. He is too interesting to become the new cave dweller. I am glad that Charlie is continuing to work on the church, but as good as it was (for himself) to throw the heroin into the water (which will come back), I think it was selfish of him to not think of the others who may need that if they get hurt. Like if something bad happens to Sun, and she needs a C-section. Never know. I don't like Locke as a pessimist. I liked him when he believed there was a reason for everything.
About the new hatch... I can't say I am surprised. All of the information we have gotten in the past two seasons made it likely that the button pushing in the hatch was an experiment. When the door came down on Locke's leg, and the symbols showed the center with the question mark, surrounded by lesser symbols, it was pretty obvious they were all hatches. At that point, we had already known about 3, so the odds were good that there were more out there. What did surprise me, was the fact that the scientists were not in the central hatch. It seems that the subjects taking all the notes were just more test rats, filling out notebooks, and putting them in the tube.
Which leads us to... who the hell are the Others? Were they Peace Corps that were stranded on the island purposely, and turned into another group of test subjects? Did they revolt when they found out what the Losties have found out, and kill/assimilate the other test groups on the island? If we find out that the Losties were crashed there on purpose, then was Rousseau and her team stranded there on purpose as well? The Black Rock?
I think the season finale is going to open up a hell of a lot more doors than it closes. I am glad that they picked up the pace in the second half of the season. Let's see what they give us on Wednesday.

So, Kah, what do you think about The Others knowing who/what Walt is? I always assumed that they wanted Walt because he was special, but from Miss Clue's questions it really did seem like they were surprised to learn about his abilities.

I liked the episode but didn't love it. But then it came after two great episodes so it was bound to be something of an anti-climax. Love the character of Ms. Klugh. Of course She's lying! Hell, look at (or better, listen to) her name, "misclue" it reeks of deception.
Of course Vincent is evil! Been saying that since S1. Look at all the people he's been with and what happened to them:
Walt: kidnapped by the Others
Michael: Now Ms. Klugh's witless puppet
Shannon: Dead
Ana Lucia: Dead
Charlie (of all people) wasn't dumb enough to fall for it. But there's still time.
Oh yeah, since Sawyer fed him he's gonna come in for a world of hurt at some point.
Yet another candidate for "the Black Rock". There's the ship of course but some fans have noted that there was a big black rock at the "line" when Jack and Kate went there. Now there's a wierd rock formation near the Other's camp. With a square hole in it. Square is not a shape usually found in nature people.
So, Kah, what do you think about The Others knowing who/what Walt is? I always assumed that they wanted Walt because he was special, but from Miss Clue's questions it really did seem like they were surprised to learn about his abilities.
I don't think they wanted him because he was special. I think they kept him because of that. I think they took him because he is a kid, just like all the other kids from the tail section. (I also think the writers wanted to get rid of the kids on the island so they wouldn't detract from the adult storylines)
