Whether it's a movie you've seen a hundred times, or a movie you just saw
at your local cineplex, please share here.

Just put in the following info:

Movie: (the name of what you saw....duh)
Viewings: a general guess-timate of how many times you saw it
Comments: Brief lines saying what you thought of it.
Verdict: The grade you'd give it.
Quote: If one comes to mind, add it here, or leave blank.

I'll start...

Movie: Finding Nemo
Viewings: for the 22nd time. I got kids ya know.
Comments: Awesome flick. Easy on the eyes. No matter how many times the kids want to see it. Very quoteable.
Verdict: A+
Quote: "You know, you're really cute. But I can't understand what you're saying."

Movie: Armageddon
Viewings: dozen or so
Comments: got home around 2am from a graduation party, and it was just starting, so I cracked open another beer and decided to watch it.
Verdict: nice solid B
Quote:"This one's for you Gracie"

Love the ending, it always makes me tear up, how his last thoughts are of his daughter, from childhood to the wedding he won't be able to see.

Movie: The Wrong Trousers (animated short)
Viewings: A couple dozen at least. Refreshing my memory because I'm writing a piece on Nick Park right now.
Comments: Brilliant ... love the deadpan penguin villain, the hysterically funny trousers (when Wallace wears them), and the fun of Gromit laying track as his train approaches it.
Verdict: A (it's just short of "A Close Shave," which gets an A+)
Quote: "It's the wrong trousers, Gromit! And they've gone wrong!"

I was home for lunch and it happened to be on.

Movie: Monster-in-Law
Viewings: First time
Comments: Cute movie. I love movies pitting family members against each other. I think J-Lo can act when she's given the right film, and Jane Fonda's wonderfully loony. I love Wanda Sykes, she always cracks me up. Good date movie.
Verdict: B+

Movie: The Aristocrats
Viewings: first time.
Comments: Really funny for about 45 minutes, but probably would've worked better as a short subject.
Sarah Silverman was really funny, as were Gottfried and Drew Carey. I also liked the Brits a lot (Izzard, Connelly, and Idle). Carlin, Williams, Goldberg, and Jon Stewart were also great. Diller's arms scare me.
Verdict: B-

Movie: "Die Hard with a Vengeance"
Viewings: Somewhere between 5 and 10
Comments: Damn good fun, if utterly ridiculous. If they do make another one, I wish they'd get back to the tone of the first (which was actually reasonably believable) rather than the no-holds-barred approach of the sequels.
Verdict: B

Well at least you saw it.

Mine's changed...

Movie: Stick It
Viewings: 1 (just now)
Comments: Well... I think Jake would like this one. Girls with nice butts in tight suits. Plot wise it had one... and was fun. That's mostly it, it was fun. I'd catch it on DVD during the winter months though. When I was working I saw a little east indian girl run out of the theatre, no more then ten years old, and throw up the horns. From just that I realised I had to see this.

Movie: The Da Vinci Code
Viewings: 1 In theaters
Comments: Surprisingly good. I wonder if all the groups who are boycotting the movie have actually watched it. I went with a practicing Catholic and he couldn't see what was so inflammatory. Opus Dei wasn't portrayed as evil murders. Certain members in high places were, kind of like Islamic extremists giving Islam a bad name. Started off a little clunky and cheesy but picked up once they left the Louvre. And with all the nay saying about Hanks' acting in this film, it works for me. His bookish appearance. His awkwardness around Sophie. His non hero type protagonist. He plays the part of someone who has no business being involved getting knee deep in it.
The best part was them sitting around the table arguing about Christianity's beginnings with Teabing. They were like little kids. And of course, Ian Mckellan was excellent.

Ratings: 3 out of 4 stars
Quote: For the life of me I can't remember the exact quote but it was something along the lines of

"It's all in what you believe. Why does it have to be human or divine? Maybe human is divine. Why can't he be a miracle worker and a father? What matters is what you believe. "

Comments: A movie full of commentary on white-collar stiff jobs and the inanity of it all as well as a carpe diem look at life.
Verdict: A-. It just ends a little too soon and a little too suddenly.

Movie: X-Men
Viewings: probably 7-8
Comments: I had forgotten my anger over the casting of Anna Paquin as Rogue until I rewatched it last night. I have a few problems with it, as those of you from CA probably remember in my lunatic rantings. 1. She's not good looking. 2. No Southern accent. 3. Since when is Rogue from a suburb in Mississippi? There's more, but you get the picture. Ggrrrr, I'm still mad. Anyways, I was reminded how very much I love Patrick Stewart. He could've carried TNG all by himself, and he should be in every movie ever made. I couldn't picture anyone else as Professor X. Ian MacKellan did an excellent job as Magneto. He was both menacing and relatable, and the scenes between him and Patrick Stewart make you believe they actually used to be friends.

I had also forgotten how X-Men was the Wolverine and Rogue movie, which made me even more upset about Anna Paquin, because she is not leading actress material. However, I was impressed again, with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. It almost seems like he was born to play him. Famke Jansen, James Marsden, and Halle Berry were basically extras, and the costume for Sabertooth was actually laughable. Oh, in addition, I noticed that the actor who plays Pyro in this movie is not the same one as in the second movie.

All in all, I still really enjoyed the movie. I think that the concept was a bit overdone, and I personally would have rather seen a film with just a few of the characters, where we actually got to know their stories. The backgrounds of all these characters are so interesting, the movies should show us that. Living in reality as I do, though, I accept that what we got was pretty damn good, and certainly watchable, if the lines were a bit cheesy at times.

Let's just hope they don't quit after 3. I shudder to think of the 18 storylines they are going to cram into this next movie, with no possible resolution.

Movie: X-Men
Let's just hope they don't quit after 3. I shudder to think of the 18 storylines they are going to cram into this next movie, with no possible resolution.

I'd like to see more of the X, but I think the only thing I'd be interested in seeing is a story with Apocalypse.

That said,

Movie: Pleasantville
Viewings: 10+
Ratings: A
Comments: I actually didn't get to see this one in theaters, finally rented it on VHS. It became one of my favorites, and if I'm channel surfing and come across it, I'll usually finish it. The way color is used is fascinating. A brother and sister (Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon), a geek and a rebel, are sucked into the fictional 50's black-and-white TV show Pleasantville (thanks to mystical TV repairman Don Knotts). As they begin to show the residents that there is more to life than their squeaky-clean existence, color begins to slowly pervade the world. Joan Allen, William H. Macy and Jeff Daniels are also fantastic. At times it may be a little too sweet, maybe a little corny sometimes, but the character developments are compelling and it's one of the most visually stunning movies I've ever seen.
Quotes:
David: We're supposed to be in school.
Jennifer: We're supposed to be at home, David. We're supposed to be in color!

Jennifer: This place gives me the creeps! Did you know that the books are blank?
David: What?
Jennifer: Yeah, I was in the library and I looked, and they have covers and there's nothing inside of them.
David: What were you doing in a library?
Jennifer: I got lost.

Movie: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

Comments: The story was a little confusing at first, especially since there were several references made to the FF7 game (which btw, if you haven't played it, then there's no hope for you seeing this movie). Once I remembered plot points from the game, the movie made much more sense. But seeing that movie really took me back. My wife and I played FF7 a few months after we got married, and it was our first game played together (awwwwww.... ).
So alas, it is a touch sentimental. Seeing the movie was like watching old friends from long ago, odd as that may sound. Anyway, the fight scenes were nothing short of spectacular, and it was very enjoyable.

Verdict: B+

Movie: City of God
Viewings: 1
Comments: A film of staggering violence, loss of innocence, and just jaw-dropping
in the unflinching way it tells its story. Happened to catch it on IFC,
and it was one of the most uncompromising movies I have ever seen in a long
time. 90 percent of the cast is 18 and under. And seeing the kids with guns never failed to give me chills. Terrifying to watch. And it leaves little room for doubt that this is based on true events. I've read comparisons to Goodfellas and a few Shakespeare plays for this film
(the revenge plots of Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet - sans love story, and the ambitions of MacBeth come to mind). Definitely a film that stays with you long after its over.

Verdict: A+

Watching lotsa DVDs on an off day, so...

Good Morning, Vietnam: Despite the fact this movie did the Hollywood things with screw facts, screw history, we'll do what we want, this film VERY loosely based on a historical AFN disc jockey is fun and poignant. One of RW's best performances. Also inspired me to return to the military to do this crazy thing called radio. I do TV, too, but only because I have to.

Repo Man: The X-Files meets Buckaroo Banzai, with a nice acid chaser. Nice angry early performance from Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton kicks ass. Great music. Very simple. Scientist escapes lab with dead aliens in the trunk of Malibu. Repo men want the car for the bounty. LA punks caught in the crossfire. Weirdness ensues.

The Frighteners: Great spooky story with Michael J. Fox as a burnt out psychic conning people by claiming to clear out ghosts from their houses. Thing is, he can really see and interact with spirits. Three of them are business partners of his. R Lee Ermy has a small role as a bellowing jarhead type (he's good at it). Jake Busey's earlier performance before Starship Troopers as a serial killer carrying on from beyond the grave. Oh, and this was the movie that Peter Jackson built the computer infrastructure that would go on to create Lord of the Rings and King Kong.

Battlestar Galactica The Mini Series: Watching this one again. It was damn good from the first viewing and just gets better each time I watch it. A science fiction masterpiece. Screw the haters.
