Another thing I've been having fun with is trying to determine if our search for other intelligent life in the universe may be missing that which is right at the foot of our beds.

I've noticed that some animals seem to react only to things within a very close (relative) physical proximity, while others are aware of activity at greater ranges.

I'm talking only about the animals we keep as pets, from cats, dogs and birds, to guinea pigs, snakes and various rodentia. I've seen pets that I've had exhibit behavior that had to make me wonder how much they understood or were capable of understanding.

Could it be there are creatures on this earth who are also self-aware and are capable of self expression and rational thought? Could it be what we consider to be self-awareness is not governed by only one set of parameters that could define such a concept?

Just thinking out loud.

If you've ever watched a dog eat it's own shit, or watch a cat run head first into a patio door trying to get a bird on the other side of the glass, you'd re-evaluate your question on animal intelligence.

Well, I've witnessed a human friend walk through a plate glass door, and I've seen a human (Divine) eat dog shit in a movie. So . . . . :)

Every day I see evidence that people are retarded and inferior. :)

All life forms have equal parts intelligence and stupidity. Think of the fish that bites the rubber worm with a string on it, versus the one that takes my string and wraps it around a tree branch.

All we can hope for is that they don't go Orwellian on us.
