I don't know much about Ghost Rider, but that trailer did look pretty cool. I think this movie may end up closer to the Punisher in terms of Marvel success than Spiderman/Xmen.

I'm way jealous that I won't get to see the International version of the trailer here on the big screen, I like it more than the US version, gives a little bit more info and just meshes better I think (though I like the titles against the chains in the US version). Regardless, it looks pretty cool, definitely hafta check it out.

So I guess I'll ask the obvious question....is anyone interested in this thing?

I mean it comes out next week, and no one's talking about it.

No. Nic Cage leaves me cold, and the story doesn't strike me as anything special. And Neg Jr. thinks the previews look dumb.

very slightly, just because I am an old comic geek at heart. Still, I was never into GR and know next to nothing about the story.

I think there's a reason this is being released in the middle of February. :p

Yeah, GR was/is one of my fav Marvel characters, but it looks like this one is going to be a dog.

I'm still going to see it, but I won't be happy about it.

Sidenote: Any comic book geeks out there reading the current GR comic should take a look at the fan letter page of the latest issue. Why? My buddy (and comic store owner) got his tatts (including a sweet one of GR) printed in the letters page.

yeah this will probably turn out like the Punisher movie. Being an old-school Punisher fan, I thought it was ok. Generally it's despised though. Still it's apparently successful enough that it's getting a sequel. Same with FF.

Only drawback I see here is that GR is highly reliant on SFX, not to mention Cage's salary requirements. Might not make it cost effective to create a franchise.

it'll be on peekvid.com in a week after opening. I still am curious. They seem to be getting a ton of milage out of the worst scene from the teaser the black haired girl saying "his head was a flaming skull... and it was all flames like FFwwosh Ffwwosh and stuff" (uhh.. huh, riiiight)

and yes I hate Nic Cage too.

I find it interesting that none of you seem to have caught that they are going for a bit of comedy in this one. This could be one of those quirky performances that makes a rather substandard story line fun.

Cage puts in an interesting quirky role every one in a while and they are usually better than his "I'm serious here folks" roles.

This one might be being played for adventure AND humor (but not straight comedy, if you know what I mean).

Yeah, cuz nothing sez comedy more than a story about a guy that sells his soul to the devil to save a dying loved one's life.

Let me put it to you this way, it's like taking your absolutely favorite character from a book (let's use James Bond as an example), and making a complete comedic farce out of say Casino Royale. Now while this was done back in the 60's, no one remembers it because it was so badly done.

I'd rather have someone do a movie that respects the source material, rather than try to make it something it's not.

Austin Powers.

Anyway I think the general concensus is in. Not too much to be expected from this flick in my view. I've heard how Cage is a major fan boy and has been trying to get himself into a Superhero movie - any - superhero movie.

Guess someone finally got sick of him asking.:Smirk:

Omi, I put this in my Weekend Box Office Report (http://www.mania.com/53523.html) but it actually makes sense for the studio to release a comic based character like Ghost Rider in February.

Daredevil made 179.1 mil total in its theater run.(Not including dvd sales).

Constantine made 230.4 mil total in its theatre run.(Not including dvd sales)

I have original series Ghostrider, towards the end Zathoros took over Johnny
and went evil , it would be cool it there was struggle, like in original comic.

Austin Powers was a parody. It wasn't a misrepresentation of the original material. While AP has many homages in it to Bond films (and Michael Caine's The Ipcress File), it was not meant to be a direct translation of an Ian Fleming book.

This movie is meant to be a literal translation from the Johnny Blaze version of this character (Volume 1).

The trailers, however, seem to be playing up the comedic aspects of a comic book movie. It's as if Batman Begins and other successful franchises that utilized a more serious approach never happened.

Honestly, though, I can't say I expected very much from the guy who brought us Daredevil and Elektra.

Yeah, my favorite moment of Comic Con last year was the Q&A with the cast and director of GR. This one guy got up to the mic and asked MSJ (the director), 'Daredevil...........what the fuck?'

The theater erupted in applause.
