View Full Version : My art's an avatar....without my consent!

I know no one here can do much about it, but I figured it was something worth noting........
i'd recognize that work anywhere! ha! 8)
I just want to know, would admins and mods here, especially those of the dcg, be willing to help me if action was taken against me regarding ownership of the image? in other words, would you guys have my back in case anyone at the SM3 movie boards asked for proof of my ownership? Major thanks, I've had enough plaigarizing this new year. Sheesh.

ive seen cases where one or 2 people have used my images for avatars. im usually too flattered to do anything about it though
A few people have used my art for avatars, but no one so far without my permission. I'd probably let them keep it so long as they credit me, though; that's what I usually do when people repost my art without permission.
Anyway... yeah, eff, I'd be willing to have your back if someone asks for proof of ownership. Let me know if it's necessary.

IMO, there's not really any harm done. Nobody's making a profit on your work and it is getting your work out there. I understand if you feel otherwise as certainly it is your piece and permission wasn't granted. Still, I think alot of people (who don't create their own avatars) just grab the coolest piece of work they can find that'll still work at postage stamp size and I think your piece more than qualifies on both counts. Your work rocks, Eff and I, for one, am glad to see that being recognized beyond our little community. Still, I am a little jealous; I wish someone would steal my work to make an avatar!! :)

I guess I'm overreacting a bit; I'm just a little bummed that folks aren't asking permission, but like you (LP) said, there's no profit involved. I just don't want to get to the point where I gotta throw a distracting watermark on all my artwork, 'cause that would just suck.
