So Zack Snyder (director of 'Dawn of the Dead' and '300') is on to doing the much anticipated film of "The Watchmen". This brings about the whole idea of who will be cast?

I've been doing a lot of thinking on this and the only casting choice I'm dead-set about is that of The Comedian. Reading on other forums, I see a lot of people suggesting older actors, like Burt Reynolds be cast (given the Comedian's age in the present scenes of the book) however, to me it seems a younger actor should be cast so he can play both the older Comedian, as well as the younger ones (keep in mind we are shown the comedian at about 3 or 4 stages of his life.... teens, 20's, 40's and 60's, I believe). For this reason, I believe the casting of Gerard Butler would be a good choice.

Keep in mind that Gerard is starring in '300' so he'll already be in good with Snyder, he's well-established as an actor who can be funny, tough, a real jerk, and various other qualities shown by the Comedian. Being about 40 himself, Gerard could (with the right make-up) be believable as being both younger and older than his actual age.

So what other casting suggestions do you all have?

Wow, that guy really is pretty spot-on for Rorschach.
Anyway, by now most of you have probably seen the leaked test shot of Rorschach from the 300 trailer. I wanted to use it to make a wallpaper (which is here (http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/873/rorshachwallpaper2xg1.jpg), if anyone's interested), but when I opened my copy of Watchmen to look up the Rorschach quote, I noticed a specific panel that looked familiar. Here's a little side-by-side page to film comparison

The fact that Snyder's paying such close attention to detail(at least visually) makes me somewhat hopeful for this movie.

Well, I wish Doug Hutchison luck in getting the role. It's pretty cool to hear an actor being a fan of a part in a comic book movie. Plus he sounds pretty good. It would be nice if they went with lesser known actors. It worked pretty well in 300.

As for the image, it seems a little dark. Though some have speculated that it was done so it doesn't stant out too much when they snuck it in the trailer.

I heard that they're talking about Michael Keaton for Rorschach over on the imdb forums, which wouldn't be awful.
And Xenos, if you check out the link I posted to the wallpaper I made, the picture's got the contrast cranked up a little, so you get a better look at his mask. It's actually a little disappointing because it's clearly a cloth mask in the picture, and you know his 'face' is gonna have to be cgi in the movie. And if that picture is indeed meant to be a recreation of that panel from the comic, it's from the very beginning of the book and they haven't actually revealed what Rorschach's face looks like yet. That's probably why it's so dark.
