while at historic lows in others. Rage seems to be a major factor. Where a fistfight would occur in the past, now a shooting takes place. What is happening here? Are the perpetrators too immune to violence? Are sentences too short? Has no one told them death is permanent? A lot of these homicides are taking place between people who are aquaintances, even friends. What has taken place in our society where murder is so prevalent in some cities, yet has become a minor issue in formerly violent areas?

I suspect, suspect only mind you as I have no proof, that a lot of problems just move around as band aid solutions are applied. So, violent crime is a problem in an area. A bunch of attention is focused on it, violent crime goes down. Once attention wanes, it starts coming back to the same level. While it is down in area A, it now grows in area B, because the problem just moved there. That prompts attention in area B, etc.

I would agree that is part of the problem, but what about all the gun violence? No one beats anyone up anymore. They just shoot each other.
