Well, I've been off the radio airwaves at AFN Heidelberg for awhile. I'm doing TV and spot production, as well as news reporting and anchoring. I was aiming for one of the weekend radio shows they plan on starting in a few months. Not counting on much more, even though we have a new cool ass station commander.
Well, today it was dropped in my lap. Next week, I'm back on afternoon drive.
AND I'm up for one of the weekend shows.
Crazy biz.
But I love it.

Way to go man! Are you still in the army dude? I seem to remember you posting about being nervous about going to boot and stuff.

Hey Stoneman, how about some Trooper?

1970's Canadian rock at it's finest. (http://www.trooper.ca/albums/audio/BoysInTheBrightWhite.mp3)
Here they come
The boys in the bright white sports car
Waving their arms in the air
Who do they think they are
And where did they get that car
Must have been some heavy stuff for it's time.

Funny guy, Lavoruis.
colmatrix-Yup, still in the Army. Serving a reup, since they sent me to Germany. Yeah, to be honest, I wasn't really sweating boot. I wasn't in quite as good shape as I wanted to be before I got there, so it was a bit rough early on. But I'm a stud.
:D
So Tycoon has spoken, so let it be.

Play me a request:
"Beach Baby" by First Class.

That I would openly request that song as a guilty pleasure is testament to the delights of Ginger Vodka.

Staying on the beach theme, can you play "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys?
It's only my favourite song ever.

Staying on that theme, could you play "I Touch Myself" while simultaneously broadcasting the sound of a battery operated vibrator? Or might that get you fired?

And staying on the "change of job" theme, why not, "Take this job and shove it!"
Don't ask me for the mp3 'cause I don't have it

For sure. Unfortunately, the new format at AFN Europe is "highly researched", meaning really tight, anal playlists. I can push the envelope a bit. That busts it wide open. Hell, if I had my druthers, I'd do it and laugh the whole while. But as of now, I can just laugh.
Keep sending in the requests...

Would I be correct in assuming that Good Morning Vietnam is one of your favourite movies? :smirks:
Oh, and could you play The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis, s.v.p.?
Thx.

Not only would you be correct, but it's the first time I learned that broadcasting is actually a profession that exists in the military. Gave me the knowledge I needed to take my career to where it is now.
This soldier thing is a fun lark and chicks dig the uniform. Nice being a "DINFOS trained killer". But in deep in this green covered chest beats the heart of a radio guy. When that "On Air" light goes on, I come alive.
See what Genesis we have on our new suck ass play list.

One of my fondest memories of "I Touch Myself" occured at the Portland Rose Festival about four years ago. On the main stage during a Saturday afternoon, a dance troupe of about twenty or so eight to ten year old girls was scheduled to perform before hundreds in the audience.
They took their places on stage.
The music began. They proceeded to dance, in a series of mis-steps, missed cues and pretty much working the "Awwww... aren't they precious!" shtick.
But - there was a very surreal quality about it. The opening number over the sound system was "I Touch Myself"
The music lasted for about 30 seconds before the plug was pulled - and a new selection was played minutes later.

That's one of your fondest memories of "I Touch Myself"? That would easily be my most disturbing.
