I cant believe this has happened to a a person that was on the verge of seeing his career skyrocket. He will be missed, although, i don't see how he took his life over a woman. He should have take his advice from the Joker and thought
"Why So Serious"?

ok first off before any other comment... krinshaw, you are a jerk who needs a fucking heart. thebatman28 there hasnt been any confirmation over the reasoning, the sleeping pills were allegedly over his trouble playing the joker anyway. he was only getting two hours sleep because the character disturbed him so much that it caused insomina. if you havent ever acted then maybe you dont get this but ledger sank himself into his roles. all in all suicide is looking likely but not proven, and even if it is or isnt, we are not there we have no idea what is going on other than what is reported. so take your "oh i am just sorry because he was a good actor" and "oh what a dumbass" perpectives and stick em where they belong which is back in you, not out into the world! public eye or not, he deserves respect and his fans deserve the same, and anyone he knew who cared about him does too. he isnt just some character you can spout off about without any forethought. and suicide is never something to call someone a dumbass over! or make light of!

.......I'm going to make you think about this. ....and maybe I'm wrong .... but ...
.......Does this possibly sound like .......................a joke?

As is often the case in situations like this, stories fly around the internet like lightning. Not all of them are true.
It was reported that Ledger was found in Mary Kate Olsen's apartment. Not true.
It was reported to be a suicide. Certainly unproven and police are officially saying it's unlikely.
It was reported that pills were "strewn about the room". Police have gone on the record saying this is untrue. (Several pill bottles were taken from the apartment).
Suicide? Jilted? Depressed? At this point who the fuck knows?
I'd rather not speculate or pass judgment in cases like this. Yes, Heath Ledger was a big shot Hollywood star. Maybe he had it all. Doesn't mean he didn't experience pain. Doesn't mean he wasn't a human being.
Maybe we can wait and see what info becomes available.

Wow, I'm still a bit numb...

I can't believe how selfish and stupid I feel, now, when I saw the headline all I thought was... 'oh no, we'll only ever get to see his Joker once', but this guy has friends and a family, he will be missed as a performer and a person...
Rest in peace, Heath.

Let the rumor mill begin... Oh wait, it already has. Thousands of local news casts are reporting this as is CNN and many others around the world. I hardly doubt it is a joke. The only jokes you will see will be posts by people who are dumb enough to make up stupid crap. I have acted, as has my wife, and it takes a special person to fill certain rolls. Take the mind of Jack Nicholson for instance. This guy portrayed the Joker so well that the audience was more into him than they were into the 'ol batsy. I can sort of see why this character would keep you up at night, but I hardly doubt the authorities will pin it on that as the cause of the overdose. I'm sure we will all find out how long he had been taking the sleeping pills (or when they were prescribed) soon enough. Yeah, I'm almost certain the media will do everything they can to make this into a Brandon Lee (The Crow) case by blaming it on the movie. Whatever. This is why you don't take more dosage than what you doctor tells you to, people!
To the family of Heath: You are in our prayers and thoughts. We hope you can get through this and somehow come to terms with it all. To the fans: Don't be poisoned by the media in all of this. Enjoy watching his final movie and not with a heavy heart, but with a lite one. Heath would want us to enjoy the movie as all actors are paid to do one thing for the public... ENTERTAIN.

It was a great shock when I heard about his death today. I've only seen him in TDK trailer, but was very excited about what little I did see.
I hope what people remember of this man will not be the stuff of tabloid fodder.
Like so many others, it is a loss to the world. Rest in peace.

Details are now being correctly reported that police have found NO EVIDENCE of suicide-and he was also ill-long hours of work, very little sleep-and we all know now what ambien is really capable of doing to someone.Just this morning I found out that my good friend's brother had taken his life-he left a very detailed note-and had been planning this for awhile-That is evidence of a suicide-it's planned out in advance-it's not uncommon, however, for different combinations of medicines to be lethal-people lose their lives everyday to drug interactions while in the hospital.
Alot of the gossipy, trashy media whores are already in a feeding frenzy-let's all say a prayer for every family in america and around the world who lost a loved one today and are in temendous pain-believe,me-I've been there-and your life is never the same.
It is now w/ bittersweet anticapation that I wait for TDK on July 19th-we will be treated to a fierce,tour-de-force performance from a fearless actor-(he proved that in Brokeback - and he got an oscar nom for it- )-in what will now be his final role- in what is already known to be a superb film-captured for all time-the perfect cinematic vision of Batman vs The Joker.

I have had a tightness in my chest about this all day, since the first reports came out. Heath was an amazing actor, in the way he immersed himself in each character he portrayed on screen. I too feel guilty of selfishness, when i think to myself we'll only get a single performance in whats most likely to be his most briliant and complex role to date. My prayers do go to his family and friends, and even if the ruling is suicide I hope it remains silent... let his memory and legacey be that he flew under the radar, avoided stereo types brought dynamic ground breaking roles to the screen, and was taken too soon ,like so many before him. It's now with bitter sweet anticipation that I wait for The Dark Knight... Mr Ledgers curtin call.
Isn't it amazing how someone you've never met can have such impact on your life... God be with you Heath, you will be missed by millions.

Yea I know what you mean man, first it was shock, now its sadness. This came out of nowhere and at shitty time. I beleive that his performace playing The Joker would have been his best yet and he would have gotten a ton of publicity for it. Now the publicity will be becuase of his death, he was an amazing actor and I cant stand to hear him get shit because of Brokeback Mountain. He did a great job playing that role and got an oscar nom for it. Let alone met the girl he married and had a child with playing that role. People are going to shit when they see him as The Joker and see how great of a job he did.
This is horrible and im still shocked it happend at such an akward time.

the dark knight wont be his last film. he just finished shooting another one.
i hope this doesnt affect the movie.

Again we lost a good actor due to an accident. I believe it was an accident because maybe he was too exhausted to know just how many pills he had taken. He will be missed by all his fans.

ambien?? umm... ambien has side effects that really should be better known to the people that take it... my doctor pulled me off of ambien about six months ago for having chunks of missing time. i heard it was over the counter stuff he had... but there is actually a very real risk of overdosing with ambien and not even knowing it... my wife found me one night sick after i had taken it and in the morning there were five extra pills missing. i took it and forgot and apparently took it again etc... but apparently mine was due to also being on prozac...

I keep coming back reading this story over and over, like some part of me expects this all to be a sick joke to promote the movie, (which I know it's not). I don't know why this is bothering me so much, after all I never met him. I guess, like most of those to faithfully visit this site, I dream of being being one of many of the characters we faithfully support, read and cheer about thanks to the writers and artists that breath life into them. I've watched TDK trailer over and over again since his passing and get that same spinal chill most of got when seeing Brandon's last interview on the set of the Crow. Why didn't I feel this sense of loss when Brandon passed? I ask myself. No response. Like all of you I will see TDK but with that additional attention to every word, every jesture knowing I won't see that kind of performance again. Call me a 36 yr old geek, tell me to get a life, it doesn't matter, I"m a kid at heart and always will be and maybe that's why that kid in me wants to cry and search for an answer when yet again someone that should be here isn't anymore. Heath, that interview you gave when you said at the end of the day there was something more that you wanted with your career besides money? Well, all the forums filled with saddened fans, friends, and strangers you just took time to talk to should be testament that you found what you were looking for. Rest in Peace, you've more than earned it.

I'm sorry but how many times do we here the story. John Belushi, John Candy, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, River Pheonix, Chris Penn, Elvis, Marilyn, The list is endless. Yes I'm sorry he's gone, not just because of the movie, but because a person lost their life. It's a shame it happened, but when will we learn. N.S.C. No Self Control.
