It doesn't look to be a busy year in the genre, but here's the list so far ... if you have any additions/release date changes, reply below and I'll update this main list.

02/17--"Night Watch": Russian flick set in contemporary Moscow, about an age-old battle between good and evil. First in trilogy.

02/24--"Ultraviolet": Milla Jovovich as a woman infected with a GM disease that gives her enhanced intelligence and physical abilities.

03/17--"V for Vendetta": Alternate future featuring bald Natalie Portman battling a fascist British government. Written by the Wachowski brothers; from the Alan Moore graphic novel.

07/07--"A Scanner Darkly" (limited release): Richard Linklater's version of the PK Dick story about a undercover cop investigating his split personality. Cool rotoscope animation of live action with Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder.

07/21--"Lady in the Water": Paul Giamatti and Bryce Dallas Howard as the nymph he discovers. Oh, and it's directed by M. Night Shymalan.

09/01--"Idiocracy": Mike Judge comedy about an average guy (Owen Wilson) put into hiberation as an Army experience who wakes up 1000 years later as the most intelligent person on the planet. Formerly titled "3001."

09/29--"The Children of Men": Alfonso Cuaron directs Julianne Moore and Clive Owen in a near-future story where a women conceives the first child on earth in 27 years.

10/20--"The Prestige (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0482571/)": Batman star Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan reunite in this adaptation of Christopher Priest's novel about battling magicians in turn-of-the-century London. Filming now; according to EW, will premiere late this year.

11/20, moved from 10/13--"The Fountain": Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz in Darren Aronofsky's latest. In the past, present, and future, a man quests through time to find his true love.

12/15--"Eragon": based on the best-selling Christopher Paolini novel. Basically "Star Wars" but with dragons.

12/29--"Pan's Labyrinth": latest from Guillermo del Toro. Set in repressive postwar Spain, a girl creates a fantasy world in the labyrinth behind their home.

Moved to 2007--"Transformers": it's a car! it's a robot! it's a Michael Bay flick??!! Fanboys wanna see it anyway.

You wouldn't include X3 or Supes on that list?

I would consider them sf/f, but films based on comics have their own forums, so people will discuss them in there. This thread is more to highlight genre films outside the big mainstream comic flicks, ones that people might not otherwise read about.

I haven't heard much about Lady in the Water other then it being a M.Night film.

I can't wait to see Paul G. in a movie in this type of genre though. Great character actor for quite a long time.

I'd like to see more movies starring Paul G, Phillip Seymore Hoffman, and John C. Reilly. They deserve to get spotlighted more for the great characters they've portrayed for so long in the industry.

I thought that Transformers had been bumped back to 4th July weekend 2007?

03/17--"V for Vendetta": Alternate future featuring bald Natalie Portman battling a fascist British government. Written by the Wachowski brothers.

07/07--"A Scanner Darkly" (limited release): Richard Linklater's version of the PK Dick story about a undercover cop investigating his split personality. Looks like a cool blend of animated live action, with Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder.

Actually, it's all animated (or rotoscoped (or 'rotoed' as the industry term is called)). The animation is drawn over the film footage of the actors, and the background and f/x are added at that time. Think of it as a hand drawn "Sin City".

07/21--"Lady in the Water": Paul Giamatti and Bryce Dallas Howard as the nymph he discovers. Oh, and it's directed by M. Night Shymalan.

11/17--"Transformers": it's a car! it's a robot! it's a Michael Bay flick??!! Fanboys wanna see it anyway.

Don't be surprised if this gets pushed back to next year. Word is that they're far from ironing out the transforming animation.

TBD--"The Fountain": Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz in Darren Aronofsky's latest. Plot only rumored, maybe something to do with the Fountain of Youth.

It takes place between the years 1500 and 2500, and deals with a man's quest through time to find his true love. The film specifically bounces between three time periods; 1500 with a Spanish Conquistador, 2005 with a geneticist, and 2500 with an astronaut.

TBD--"Ultraviolet": Milla Jovovich as a woman infected with a GM disease that gives her enhanced intelligence and physical abilities.

Actually, it's a disease that is government created that turns military personnel into vampires of a sort. Super strength, speed, etc. Once they've served their purpose, the government wants to have them eliminated.

You guys really need to head over to joblo.com and pick up the synopsis' of movies coming out. :winks:

I thought Hugh Jackman already had a film in which he played some guy out of time who fell in love..or looking for it.

Can't remember the name though.

Kate and Leopold. Not a bad flick, but a romantic comedy that just uses time travel as a plot device.

That was the one--Hugh Jackman in pantaloons and a fancy British accent! Yummy!

And I could've put in longer synopses if I wanted to, but I figured if people wanted to get into such detail, they could actually, you know, start a thread about the movie!

Well, Vendetta is from a pretty popular comic.

Well, Vendetta is from a pretty popular comic.
Popular among comic fans, but it's not exactly mainstream.

Also added "Night Watch," a Russian flick about a contemporary conflict between good and evil (and the first in a trilogy), and the date for "Ultraviolet."

Shouldn't Night Watch be considered Horror?

Dates now set for "The Fountain" and "The Prestige"; "Transformers" now moved into 2007; added "Idiocracy," "The Children of Men," and "Eragon." Those additions all look interesting, but are different: a comedy, a sci-fi thriller, and a dragon fantasy.

Okay, so maybe you don't want to go back to the first page. Here are sf/f flicks with firm release dates for the rest of the year:

Indeed. Nothing at the Box Office to really inspire. Which explains why I allowed myself to get hoodwinked into buying the special edition "EVENT HORIZON" DVD. Truly one of the more disturbing SF/Hor pics made.

"Idiocracy" sounds like it might be good if done in the style of Fredrick Pohl and Cyril Kornbluth's "Marching Morons", namely as satire.

Idiocracy does look like it could be a smart satire. I'm all for it. We'll see how it plays out, though.

I dunno. I liked it better when it came out in its animated form, better known as Futurama. :smirks:

You know, I never could get into Futurama. But I LOVED Office Space. And Beavis and Butthead.

Updated date for "The Fountain," and added Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth," which sounds pretty interesting. There's a picture in EW of Doug Jones (Abe Sapien in "Hellboy") as Pan and it looks freaky.

An update on "Idiocracy" as well, seems that it's been "postponed indefinitely" (http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=12449) even though it was supposed to come out on Sept. 1st.
