I didn't know Keanu had this in him. He was just plain acting. And not in some cool, reserved way. He was emotional, connected, engaged, engaging. It has been years since I abandoned all hope of this kind of performance. It's like he forgot he was being filmed and just acted like a regular person.
Overall the movie was pretty...neat. It flows out nicely, like life, instead of rushing off to fulfill a checklist of standard plotpoints and archetypes. I actually didn't see the ending coming, since a huge point was evinced early in the film.
Early reviews suggested we either ignore the time-travel mechanics or bone up on quantum physics and string theory. I'll do the latter since there are things happening that give me a Janeway-sized headache. The story is very charming as is, but I just can't let that stuff slide.
Hallelujah! Keanu Reeves...is alive!
I think it is a good sign that my bf and I both have an interest in seeing this movie. I am not a fan of chick flicks, and he's not a fan of anything that involves thinking, but it's an interesting concept, and those two work well together. I expect it will be as good as you say. Thanks for the vague review, and not ruining it for the rest of us. :hugs:

A girl dragged me to this last night. Was it good? Not really. It was ok, and you do need to ignore the time differences to get into the story. Definitely a chick flick.

I saw a girl actually drag her boyfriend into it today, I told him that it wasn't to late to run and the fast and the furious was next door.

It is not a chick flick. It's just a pleasant story. Not great, but in no way negative either. The movie I saw was about a depressed woman and a fairly chipper guy. "Beaches" is a chick flick. "Boys on the Side" is a chick flick. This was just a movie.

Still sounds like a chick flick to me.

I think, in general, "romantic" movies are labeled as "chick flicks" because there's a stereotype that men don't like romance.

I called this a chick flick because the girl I was with loved it and totally overlooked the blatant plot holes and illogicalness of various situations. Plus the whole soulmates-through-time idea just gets a girl going :)
Was the movie ok? I guess. But I definitely wouldn't see it again, and I definitely wouldn't have seen it if I wasn't with a girl.:dunno:

Why is it that I can see Omi at home secretly viewing this flick on DVD, all the while weeping silently into a wad of kleenex?

Because that's exactly what he's going to do.
I'm a chick and I could barely keep quiet with the plot holes and ridiculous time issues. The romance is pretty subtle. This movie is kinda like a bubble bath. Just relaxing and it's gives you space to breathe and time to think. But when the curling iron starts to teeter on the edge (ie. plot holes), you hop to attention.
I only went to see it because it was Keanu movie. And because AICN gave it a positive review. Although, I still don't think it follows string theory. It seems to plainly defy that and any other time-travel logic.

I was also dragged into this movie by my girlfriend myself. It wasn't too terribly bad. You could tell that Keanu was hit by the car at the beginning of the film and that kind of bugged me throughout the film.
I think the best part of the movie though was when Superman saved the plane from...oh wait, that's the movie I wanted to see instead of The Lake House, my bad...
