When I saw the Big Lebowski, I had to make sure the entire family
was in a deep sleep before I started. As I watched, I could see
the glint that was in the Coen brothers eyes as each cuss word was
uttered with total abandon. That, in itself, was the big running joke
throughout the whole movie, capped by the cowboy near the end,
telling the Dude to not swear so much. If foul language offended you,
you'd never get past the first ten-fifteen minutes. You had to look
past it, and see what the brothers were shooting for and appreciate
what they were doing. Plus, you could tell the actors were giddy
like school kids with all the swearing. Makes you wonder just how much
of it was adlibbed. Especially in the bowling alley scenes. :smirk:

Hey Minion. Thought you might like to know what resulted from YouTube
posting those TV pilots. From IMDB.com-
YouTube Rescues Dead TV Series
In what amounts to the first case of the video website YouTube.com's resuscitating a canceled TV series, NBC is expected to announce today (Friday) that it will resurrect Nobody's Watching, which was canceled last year by The WB. Two weeks ago, the New York Times reported that a copy of the pilot had been downloaded more than 300,000 times since it was posted on YouTube.com in mid-June. Daily Variety reported today that NBC plans to fund a series of video clips featuring the characters from Watching that will also be posted on YouTube and on its own website. In an interview with the trade publication, Watching's producer, Bill Lawrence, praised NBC for being willing to take the risk of resurrecting a show that had already been discarded by another network because of the demand of Web viewers. "If network TV doesn't embrace the Internet as both a place to launch and test shows but also as a place where shows can live, they're going to fall further and further behind," he said.

Here is is at GOOGLE (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-747208224138320858&q=tokyo+breakfast&hl=en) Videos.
Background info from Google:
Tokyo Breakfast is the name of a spoof television situation comedy pilot produced in 2000, seemingly intended for Japanese TV viewers, although the characters speak in japanese, peppered with american English idioms, and salaryman style business English . The show is a parody of the the Japanese perception of day-to-day doings of an american family, with an emphasis on the emulation of African American culture by american-caucasian youths. Characters use the term "nigga" with unusual regularity and familiarity.
The film, produced by Mike Maguire and Tom Kuntz, appeared in the 2001 Ohio Film Festival and also spread as an Internet phenomenon.

Okay, I think I'm in love.

This girl may sound like a streetsmart East LA homegirl, but I have a feeling she is just acting. Whether she is or not, for some reason I find myself totally drawn to her.
I think it's the eyes.
Or the eyebrows.
Maybe it's the nose.
Or perhaps it's the earrings.
Then again, it's entirely possible that I should stop typing for awhile.
Well, she was acting. Her name is Stevie Ryan, and she appears to be poised to attack the silver screen in a big way, according to this New Yorker article about her. (http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/articles/061016fa_fact)
Whether or not she is on her way to actual stardom; or flash-in-the-pan internet history, I cannot say. Part of me is rooting for her.
And not just the part that likes her for her DSL's. :anismirk:

The anxieties of YouTube fame.

Stevie Ryan received her first Oscar, after a fashion, this year, at the age of twenty-two, only eighteen months after moving to Los Angeles to become a movie star. She grew up in California’s high desert, a couple of hours to the east, in a town along the road to Las Vegas called Victorville. Her parents worked at calibrating truck scales for weigh stations on the interstate—a family business going back two generations on her mom’s side. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, Ryan harbored escape fantasies involving the Hollywood of her parents’ and grandparents’ generations—Lucille Ball, Audrey Hepburn, Buster Keaton, Clara Bow—but she never participated in high-school theatrical productions. She did attend her high-school prom dressed as Marilyn Monroe, down to the elbow-length gloves. (Her date wore a Mohawk and muttonchops.) After a brief stint in community college, she concluded that she was “too right-brain for school,” and followed an older brother to Huntington Beach—anything to get out of Victorville. “Then I thought, Screw these people—I’ll just go to L.A., see what happens,” she said recently....

I have the US boxed set that came out in the late 90s. It included an "Original Versions" disc with many (duh!) original versions. The TMC version is pretty different. What's odd is that the TMC version was covered in the trailer for the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
I've heard other TMC music in car commercials and various other places. Somehow...somewhere, I've got an MP3 of them doing Sixteen Days, Gathering Dust, which was vinyl only, I believe.
Billy, if you like TMC, check out Breathless at Tenor Vossa Records (http://www.tenorvossa.co.uk). The bassist owns the label, and their lead singer, Dominic Appleton, appears on several TMC cuts, such as "The Jeweler," "Tarantula," and "I am the Cosmos." Between Happiness and Heartache is among our (me and spousal unit) favourite albums. A promo video is YouTube'd here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njjNAjMiGyw)

From 1961 Japan, "Sukiyaki" by Kyu Sakamoto. The correct and original name of the song is "Ue o muite arukō" ("looking up while walking"). (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVIddibrWAM&NR)
An actual b/w video of the singer himself performing his biggest hit.
It came to these shores in 1963, renamed "Sukiyaki" to simplify it and make it more memorable to Americans, and easier for American DJ's to present. The song has nothing to do with Sukiyaki. Quoting from a cut-and-paste, It's a melancholy song about a man saddened by the ending of a love affair, and being "man", he does not want people to see him cry, thus the "looking up while walking, so tears won't fall" lyrics. Another cut-and-paste: It is said that the song was written by Rokusuke Ei when his heart was literally broken with a Japanese actress, Meiko Nakamura. It reached Number One on the Billboard Charts, knocking off Leslie Gore's "Its My Party".
Mr. Sakamoto died in 1985 in history's worst plane crash, JAL Flight 123, near Tokyo, when 520 people were lost. The plane spiraled for 30 minutes, giving time for some passengers to write farewell notes to loved ones. Sakamoto managed to write a farewell note to his wife Yukiko Kashiwagi. (http://www.maddmansrealm.com/sukiyaki/) :shakehead:
A lovely and upbeat classic nevertheless, covered hundreds of times, and a wonderful memory since being a wee tot. I remember everyone just loved the song. :)

The ridiculousness of the video aside, the song is one of the more memorable hits from a one-hit wonder of the late 90's. Well, looks like that my last youtube post is my last one.
Every week, the firewall people update their list of internet content to be
disallowed to our PCs, with the noose growing tighter and tighter.
I can go to the site, but no page with an actual video comes through, and instead
I'm greeted with a firewall warning. Lovely.
I reckon within the year, I may not be able to post here either. :(

I don't normally post here so apologies to those who have seen it but I couldn't let this slip under the radar for people who haven't.

Yo, Meat. It's been flagged as adult. I don't have a YouTube account nor do I wish to have one. Is it over at boreme.com or ebaumsworld.com?
You can type in Knee High Park in the search and get edited versions...

Ahhh, yes. Knee High Park from season 2 of Chappelle's show guest starring Snoop as Dangle among others. Definitely a highlight of the show.
