"Angry god"....That is interesting....maybe like the way he was depicted in his first appearances in ACTION COMICS way back in the '30s ? Tossing cars around and such?...If they do go that route,I hope they give him an uber,uber-villain / alien menace to whale on.

Does that mean that Superman will be dark like Blade, Punisher & Batman ? If so if doesn't sound that bad. The mistake is staying with Brandon Routh instead of casting Tom Welling.

An even bigger mistake would be casting Tom Welling. Let's try to stick with people who can act.

Well, we had Pouty Emo Superman in Returns. We has Clark's Creek in Smallville. Who the hell knows what Burton and Cage were gonna do. Now they're gonna make angry warlord Superman?
This is Warner Brothers. Outside of animation, have they ever really gotten Superman right from the comics?

When they say angry god it makes me think of the Eradicator when he was possesing Superman and when he claimed to be Superman when the world thought he was dead.

Could be that they are going with Superman feeling responsible for every life on earth and feeling that pressure he decides to take a more hardlined approach to the whole saving lives and doing what needs to be done even if it seems harsh. JL did an arc on this where the league was abducted by alternate versions from another reality where the justice league were more like tyrants than benevolent protectors. Supes led the way in that one. It could work if they treat it like a redemption story, where he sees the harm he inflicts on those he loves in the end. Of course this will all have to be set in motion by some huge cataclysmic event... I KNOW!!!! the death of his "wink wink" son. YES!!! thats it. The kid bites it in some horrible way at the hands of some cosmic creep (im thinking lobo, but i know thats a pipe dream) and then Supes loses it. Kills the cosmocreep, and then to ensure nothing like that ever happens again declares martial law on earth. As a twist of irony it takes Luthor to show Supes the err of his way in some strange set of circumstances that even Luthor isnt sure of. It could work, if carefully implemented.

Maybe, they could be losing the goody side and going for what we all want. A real man of steel whose power is that of a God.
I don't know if any of you watched JL unlimited, but his battle scene with Dark Seid, was what came to mind. Where he talked about living in a cardboard world, where he wasn't able to let loose and had to be careful not to harm anyone. But that Dark seid could take it and that now everyone would find out just how powerful Superman really was, as he proceeded to tear Darks "you know what" up!!
That what's I think of when I hear angry god!

doesn't matter what they do...they'll screw it up no matter how great the master plan.

So long as Singer is involved you are right. Brett does ok in somethings and sucks ass in others. Supes Return wasnt terrible but it could have been so much better with perhaps a slightly differnt vision. One thing thats chapping my ass about these movies, is that directors and producers are so eager to cast new talent. This can be only for a couple reasons. One being less money to hire, the other being that they are young and they can get at least 3-5 good movies out of them before they are too old to play that character any longer. At least not without some story of aging. When you think of comic characters, you dont think of them aging. I mean if we went with Supes and Bats alone the both of them should be wearing colostomy bags, and pricing their coffins by now. So the powers that be look to young actors to fill the shoes so they wont have to recast for a while. A lesson learned from the first Bat franchise i suppose.
Especially true of the last Superman movie was the feeling that it was a continuation of the Donner movies. This was not an accident of course. But I couldnt help myself thoughout the movie wondering why would Clark and Lois looks so damn young if this was supposed to be 5 years later. Bosworth wasnt terrible, in fact i found her to be a better Lois than all that have come before her. But she just felt too young for a return to the character. If this had been a retelling of the origin then i could have bought it easily. Routh, wasnt bad either. I could really see his attempt to portray Reeves' quintessential Clark and actually pulling it off well. But again there was the whole issue of this being a return story and their age just being out of place detracting from the overall feel of the film.
Having said all that, though, i pray they dont recast the parts anytime soon. Stick with what works and let it write itself. There is more than 50 years worth of material to draw from, hopefully they can conjure something up both entertaining and faithful to the fans.

A dark Superman sounds cool but they have to do a new villain(ex: Dark Seid or Mongul). Also Super-man Returns was terrible, they need to replace everyone involved withthe previous film, & have Christopher Nolan do it.

I enjoyed growing up and watching the original Superman movies. No one will ever be able to replace Christopher Reeves in my mind, but certainly they will keep on trying. Just like Christopher, Jack Nicholson will always be the Joker to me. Although, Mark Hamill did an incredible out of this world job with the "mad clown's" voice in the animated series.
A new type of kryptonite revealed maybe? How do you think Michael Bay would do with a Superman movie? So many questions and so many years to answer them. DC should just stick to making cartoons...

Agreed, toons does seem the best for DC. Maybe they could get their own company together like Marvel did and start doing their own movies. Green Lantern would be a great place to start.

Better have STEPHEN NORRINGTON direct superman....that man has real genius in directing superhero movies. he introduced BLADE to the big screen and put marvel back on the map on making comic book based movie films.

Making DC films is possible. All WB needs is the right staff to hire, directors to helm, and the right cast to do it....everythings possible, other people thought iron man could'nt be done....well marvel told them.

Guys,
the Beauty of Superman, the reason we LOVE him, those of us that are "Super-fans" is that he's a GOODY GOODY. Unlike all those dark "heroes" Superman ACTUALLY is a hero. He doesn't just perform brave tasks, he's a role model, a paragon of goodness and hope for all to see and follow.
That being said, I LOVE seeing him light Darkseid up, or the "Burn" line on Mongul. Both classic Superman moments.
As much as I cringe to say this, Brandon Routhe wasn't AWFUL. If he worked out, put on 20 or 30 pounds, and got a real Superman costume instead of that drab colored emo fest

Wow, comp messed up.
Like I was saying, if Routhe worked his butt off, and got himself a REAL Superman suit, he wouldn't be awful.
Of course, Bosworth, and the little punk kid, both need to go.
That was a terrible cast for Lois, and I hate Superman having a kid.
We need to see Supes FIGHTING something. The whole movie and he didn't throw a single punch. The man doesn't just fight natural disasters. Add in someone from his rogue's gallery. Make it a big deal.
Don't give me some whiney depressed emo Superman who gets all "Dark and Gritty", if I wanted that, I'd go watch Punisher or something like that.
I want to see a HERO, a Paragon of goodness, lighting up the silver screen, and fighting the good fight. Not "Deadbeat Dark Colored Emo Dad to the kind of Rescue"

How about this... angry god....... Zod....
I don't think this has anything to do with Superman, th character, but rather the movie itself. It could mean brainiac too, or Darkseid.

Tom Welling sucks ass. You guys call Routh "emo"(?!) and then suggest that 'Dawson's Smallville' geek as a replacement?!
Superman Returns was excellent. The having a kid thing I could take or leave(it does add an interesting dynamic to the character IMO) but in any case it was not something that ruined the mythos or some such BS! Crap the first and second Superman movies had him doing some downright absurd crap(some of it really not in accordance with the character IMO) but no one even notices. Reeve dies and people break out the microscopes looking for stuff to reinforce their presuppositions that the new Superman sucks.
