I love this movie to the depths of my soul, and it is one of the finest examples of a period piece as you'll ever see. It has never received the love I think it deserves.

For once I completely agree with you. If this movie's on I always stop to watch it. Fantastic WWII superhero picture, based on a graphic novel by Dave Stevens. Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connelly, Timothy Dalton, Alan Arkin, even an appearance by Terry O'Quinn as Howard Hughes. The production is beautiful, perfectly recreating Hollywood circa 1938, the chemistry between the characters is great, and the Rocketeer's uniform is total retro-cool. It's impossible to not be charmed by this film. Good choice.

All I know about this movie is that Timothy Dalton is in it. Amazingly I havent seen it yet, but I have it on my free on demand until July, so I'll make time to watch it. I remember wanting to see this when it was out way back when, I think I was 5, and I had a coloring book or something of it.

I'm glad to see someone sing the praises of this movie. For me, the best bit in a great film is the smuggled Nazi propaganada film.

Just goes to show you what a good director Joe Johnston can be when he has the right material. Hard to believe this movie is almost 15 years old. It still plays well. Not at all like a Disney movie.
