View Full Version : Actors and Actresses You Detest
Who are those actors that mere mention of makes you cringe? Whose names will keep you from seeing a movie, no matter how many people tell you it's the greatest thing ever made? (No dead people, please. It's only fair to hate the living.)
Matthew Broderick
Kevin Spacey
Leonardo DiCaprio
Edward Furlong
Sam Neil
Julianne Moore
Jennifer Lopez
Nicholas Cage

Chris Klein. His whispery surfer dude that he portrays in almost every movies I've seen him in drives me nuts.
Jodie Foster. She always seems like she's on the verge of tears and is talking while grinding her molar when she acts.

I was gonna come to the defense of Matthew Broderick by mentioning Biloxi Blues but then realized he sucked in that, too, and that I had it confused with Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood (which I though featured Broderick as a recruit... by the way, Heartbreak Ridge is pretty kickass).

Tori Spelling
(Princess Skank, Beverly Hills Skank, take your pick)
Robin Williams
(I can respect him in a drama. Even horror. But whenever anyone interviews him, or if he accepts any award or delivers any diatribe before a godforsaken microphone,
then I cringe my guts out and want to shove bamboo shoots into the corneas of my eyeballs.)
Tom Cruise
(Thanks to the losing of his flipping mind, I can only watch any movies of his
from War of the Worlds on back with a clear conscience. Anything after
that seems like a funding project for his Scientology group masked as
an action flick.)
Paris Hilton
(How does one respect someone too much in love with their own fame?
For absolutely everything she does, this talentless skank princess revels
in her own lack of talent like a pig in mud with no shame whatsoever.
I'll be staying far away from all Hilton enterprises, just so Daddy's little girl
won't be getting anything from me.)
The only reason Paris Hilton and Tori Spelling aren't on my list is because they're not actresses. They're just skanks with money.

About Ben Kingsley - I can't stand him, simply because he is an egotistical prick. My best friend studied at Oxford for a summer program and he was one of her teachers. He insisted that all of the students call him "Sir Ben" and he got indignant if anyone forgot the "sir." I couldn't wrap my head around this... it's not as if he earned the title of "sir" by fighting in a war, no no, he earned it by playing pretend (I'm not ditching actors here, my best friend studied at Oxford and Harvard to be an actress, I'm just being realistic). And for goodness sakes, as was already pointed out, he was in Thunderbirds!!!
On the flip side, Gwen (the aforementioned friend), said that Alan Rickman was so genuinely warm and caring. His ego, if he had one, did not get in the way of his teaching and he did not insist that everyone call him "Sir."

That same attitude makes me hate Diana Ross, or Miss Diana, as she insists on being called, and "don't you dare look directly at her". I mean, really, the rest of her face that isn't hideous might melt off.

I've heard Van-Damme and Minelli were just awful to be around. Very assured of their own importance. I've never heard that about Savalas, though.
I think their problem with Mel is his zealotry. Kind of like Tom Cruise's. I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of that, either. I have always been a huge fan of John Travolta, but the Battlefield Earth crap was a big downer for him. It's fine to be a zealot, but do it in your own home. People don't like having others' beliefs shoved in their faces. That's why no one likes Jehovah's Witnesses.

By annoying here, I don't mean to disdain anyone with strong beliefs, just that there needs to come a time when everyone realizes that its best to let sleeping dogs lie and agree to disagree.

:( That's too bad to hear. What were the details of your encounter with him, if you don't mind sharing?
I was eating breakfast in the Universal Sheraton hotel, with Bjo Trimble, her husband and daughter. The room wasn't completely filled, but there were quite a few people eating. Telly S. came into the room from connecting door to the hotel proper, and, for no apparent reason I could guess at, began screaming profanities at the hostess, telling her "Don't you know who I am?" and just making a very loud and obnoxious scene. Everyone in the restaurant just looked at him and I couldn't figure out what he could possibly be upset about, since he just walked in and started yelling. I'd been there about 30 minutes, and hadn't seen him up to that point. He was still throwing a fit as I left the hotel restaurant and got on an elevator to go to my room. He came along and got on the same elevator. I looked at him and he started yelling again, about how badly he was being treated and what he thought of it. Nothing he said made any sense whatsoever. I think he was high on something.
Anyway, he got off the elevator before I did and when I talked to people later, no one could figure out what he was mad about, including the restaurant staff.
At that point, I figured he was just a nutcase.

I find Anniston annoying, but I dont detest her, shes good at crying... 8-]
I think I have a hard time admiting to detsting an actor when I know they are capable of doing great work...
Mel Gibson, you have to give him Brave Heart!
Nicholas Cage, Hes doing good lately with The Weather Man, I like Adaptation and Matchstick Men too.
Even Ashton Kutcher, turned my opinion of his character acting right around when I saw The Butterfly Effect.
But I can understand everyone's opinion, just trying to bring up some debatables...

Juliette Lewis...beyond that everyone has probably annoyed me at times, but everyone that everyone has mentioned I've seen in great movies, or acted well from time to time. I think it depends on the director/script - movie.
except for Lindsey Lohan...or Paris Hilton, I've never seen anything I've liked with them.

 Right: you want a list of detestable actors? Well here's mine.
1) Head and shoulders above all the rest is Sean Connery. He may have been good as James Bond back in the sixties but since then his head has grown so large it no longer fits in the Albert Hall. Also he's a Scots Nationalist who loves his homeland so much he doesn't live there. That's like a Texan living in France demanding that the Lonestar State should leave the Union. What a hypocrite.
2) Tom Cruise. What more can be said of this pathetic creep that hasn't been already? Well in addition to being a major fund-raiser and support for the abominable pseudo-religion of scientology, he is also an appalling actor. He almost made it to the top of my list.
3) Nicole Kidman, the afformentioned's ex-wife. No blame on her for getting away from Cruise but unfortunately she makes me almost sympathise with him. She seems just such a cold creature and so devoid of genuine emotion that I'm sure it would be more fun living with a sex-toy mannekin than with her. (That said, I wish herand her new husband well and hope they have a happy life together with many children:) )
4) Almost any rock-star turned actor. I hate them all: from Mick Jagger to David Bowie to Roger Daltry. None of them can act and they all think we want to see them on film. They too should all be culled.
5) Will Smith. His Eddy Murphy impersonation pisses me off and I was already fed up with Eddie Murphy himself.
6) Jack Nicholson. He should really be at the top of my list too. I loathe him, loathe him, loathe him! He reminds me of the sort of dirty old man who would be slipping his hand up your girl-friends skirt when you weren't looking and then pretending afterwards it was all a joke. God, I hope he will retire soon and stop making movies.
7) Yes, Sir Ben Kingsley. Does he think he actually is Gandhi? He tried to pick up one of my sisters once. Thank God she had the good sense not to be pulled. The thought that there is any chance he could have ended up as my brother-in-law makes me want to vomit.
8) Lord Richard Attenborough. The idea that any thespian should be made a Lord fills me with loathing for the entire British political system. Lord Olivier? Well maybe his title was justified for his stirling work in keeping up morale during the war. But what has Attenborough ever done to merit his title? It beats me.
9) Madonna. Yes I know she comes under the heading of actors who are pop-stars but she is in a special category of her own. I deplore her vulgarity and her lack of respect for Christian symbols such as the crucifix. I also condemn her for being a lousy role-model for young women. Kabalah or no Kabalah she will probably burn in hell. Oh, and she is also a rotten actress too.
10) Elizabeth Taylor. Need I say more?
On the plus side I love:
1) Julia Roberts. Her smile is one of the greatest treasures in the world today.
2) Meryl Streep. For all I know she may be horrible in real life but she is a peerless actress.
3) Clint Eastwood. For me he is a cowboy's cowboy. The Good the Bad and the Ugly is still one of my all time favourite movies. A legend.
4) Juliette Binoche. If I ever have to be nursed through a terminal illness I would choose it to be her who was looking after me (English Patient). If she ran the chocolate shop I would become addicted to chocolate just to be with her. Brilliant actress.
5) Ralph Fiennes. Cold and somewhat menacing and in the English patient he really annoyed me. However, he too is a brilliant actor. A real star.
6) Zhang Ziyi. What an amazing actress. She has taken the genre of female martial arts to new heights of emotion. I look forward to seeing her in other movies that give her a chance to explore other genres.
7) Mel Gibson. Some actors have screen presence and others don't. He does. He is also a brilliant director. No wonder he is the richest actor today.
8) Russell Crowe. He may be a hell-raiser and not everyone's cup of tea, but he too is brilliant as an actor. In Gladiator he was awe inspiring. That makes for good box-office.
9) Caroline Langrishe. You maybe don't know her in America but in Britain she is a star of the small screen. I love her and have done so since she appeared first in 'The Flipside of Dominic Hide' (1980).
10) Rachel Weisz. Another brilliant British actress. I fell under her spell in 'The Mummy' and have not yet come out of it.
There are more I could add but this is enough of a list to be going on with.
