This sounds like it is based on a military thriller written called "Scimitar SL-2"
by Patrick Robinson.

Killer Wave Crashes Into Montreal
Terrorists trigger tsunamis in mini-series filming in Quebec and Nova Scotia
June 28th 2006 02:00pm | Posted by: Michael Simpson

Montreal-based production company Muse Entertainment Enterprises has announced the start of shooting on the mini-series Killer Wave. Filming will initially take place in Montreal before moving to Nova Scotia.

Killer Wave combines two topical subjects in a storyline that involves an attack upon the east coast of North America by terrorists who use nuclear weapons to trigger tsunamis. The cast includes veteran actor Tom Skerrit, who previously appeared in the made-for-television disaster epics Category 7: The End of the World and Aftershock: Earthquake in New York. Skerrit has also featured in many theatrical films, including Contact (1997) and Alien (1979). Killer Wave will also star Scottish actor Angus Macfadyen, who is in the upcoming Saw III.

Here is the complete Muse Entertainment press release:

KILLER WAVE SURGES INTO PRODUCTION

MONTREAL, June 27, 2006: Shooting began this week on Killer Wave, a 4-hour mini-series directed by Bruce McDonald and starring Angus Macfadyen, Karine Vanasse and Tom Skerritt. The action thriller will shoot for 7 weeks in Montreal and for one week on the ocean shore in Nova Scotia, until August 22. The $9.6 million mini-series is a production of Muse Entertainment Enterprises. The international distributor is RHI International Distribution Inc.

In Killer Wave, a series of colossal tidal waves hit the east coast of North America. These devastating waves are not caused by Nature or global warming but are man made. Terrorists working for a rogue corporation are making them happen by firing nuclear missiles into the ocean floor. As the lives of millions are at risk, top marine engineers John and Sophie have only a few hours to save Boston from the biggest killer wave yet.

John is played by Angus Macfadyen (Titus) and Sophie is played by Jutra Award winner Karine Vanesse (Emporte-moi). Emmy Award winner Tom Skerritt (Picket Fences) takes on the role of Bannister, the rogue corporation’s CEO.

Killer Wave is produced by Muse Entertainment’s Irene Litinsky (Human Trafficking) and Michael Prupas (This is Wonderland). The executive producer is Robert Halmi Sr. (Lion in Winter) of RHI Entertainment.

"I’ve done road movies before, but never a road movie action thriller bust-a-move, city bashing, wave crashing, disaster flick romance mini-series. Is this fun or what?" says an enthusiastic Bruce McDonald (Hard Core Logo).

Producer Irene Litinsky concurs: "Every project brings new challenges and Killer Wave is no exception. It will ultimately be one of the most impressive and entertaining mini-series that I have ever been involved in."

Didn't they make this a few years back as a crappy Sci-Fi channel movie with Corben Bernsen?

I'm pretty sure they did.

If it is a remake let's hope they do it right this time. I like Tom Skerritt so it has one thing going for it.

The whole "terrorist" thing irks me, though. Like I want to see that in "entertainment" (using term loosely) like this.

They used the same contrivance in the tv-made miniseries (4 hour movie, whatever you want to call it) remake of The Poseidon Adventure...produced in South Africa by Hallmark (!!!!) , and starring a boatload of has-beens like Steve Guttenberg.

Said terrorists were easily identifiable, because they were all middle eastern, and glared and sneered diabolically.

Their unclear reason for bombing the boat was what caused it to capsize.

But it DID make a very laughable craptacular! :D
