Do you have any/all of these systems? Just curious....
I found the Wii to be fairly easy to setup with wifi, and the 360 is fairly easy to setup using a physical network cable (you need an adapter to use wifi). I don't have any experience with the PS3, so maybe someone else could help you with that.
If you don't already have one, you will probably need some type of router, unless you only have one thing connected to the internet. Personally, I have cable internet that comes into my cable modem. I have connected that to a wiresless router that also has extra wired slots in the back of it. I have my PC and my 360 plugged into that with regular old network cables. My Wii console is in another room, so it is set up to connect wirelessly.
The Wii is able to automatically detect any wifi signals in its range. You still need to know any passcodes for your router. You can get pretty specific with your settings if you are fairly tech saavy like I am, but it isn't insanely difficult if you aren't. I believe the Wii manual has some instructions for getting online in it.
The 360 isn't too difficult either, at least in my experience. There is a section in the system setup that you have to run, but it can detect most of your settings for you.
Anyway, in case I haven't remembered things correctly, here are some help pages for the various consoles:

If you have any specific questions or problems, hopefully we'll be able to help you out.
