Majel Barrett-Roddenberry passes (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i213af1e960abb3d853279dce0cd33c23) and it takes ME to make a post about it? Shit, there's nothing on the main page either! WTH?!
The lady was a sci-fi icon ferchrissakes!

At least we'll get to hear her as the Enterprise computer in the new Trek. RIP.

Honestly, she was never my favourite part of the Trekverse. I know one shouldn't speak ill of the dead, but sometimes...
I think she tarnished the name of Roddenberry somewhat by taking some good ideas of her husbands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Roddenberry#After__Star_Trek) and turning them into rather mediocre series (Earth:Final Conflict, Andromeda), at least in my opinion.
I know these shows have their fans and that's swell, but I kind of lost respect for her as a result.
But then I'm becoming a grumpy old curmudgeon, so don't go by me.

Aw, heck, I just dug her as the voice of the Trek computers and as Troi's mom. Wasn't she one of the Emperor's wives on B5 as well?
I'd forgotten about Final Conflict and Andromeda. I only ever saw a handful of episodes from Andromeda, and, while it was a bit cheesey on production values, it didn't seem any worse than the original Trek.
Mostly, though, I was surprised that none of the Trek heads posted about it.

She played Troi's mom? I didn't know that. She was awesome! :goodbye:
