After more than 20 years with the same team, Steve Yzerman announced his retirement from hockey yesterday (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060705/SPORTS05/607050394/1053). He leaves the Red Wings with three Stanley Cups, an Olympic gold medal, and the respect of everyone familiar with the NHL. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about "The Captain," as he's known here in Detroit.
I hope he enjoys his retirement--but since he's talking about taking a front-office job with the Red Wings, that may not last long. I'm sure he'll still be a class act, though.
