View Full Version : Saturn's Moon: Encedalus

I went to a Sci-Fi convention in San Diego last weekend, and one of the panels was by JPL on the Casini mission. The scientist who made the presentation and is involved with the mission (and get this, she is a babe and was in a Star Trek Mirror universe uniform, complete with short skirt, boots and bare midriff. I resisted the temptation of hitting on her, although in hindsight I probably should have!) showed us images of the moon Encedalus , and what they've found there is just mind-blowing.
The south pole of the moon is spewing water out into space from a huge geyser. It has made an atmosphere that exists just over that south pole. It is the freakiest thing I've ever seen. They have no explanation for this phenomenon, and finding it once again proves that reality is always stranger than fiction.

I LOVE the mirror mirror universe female uniforms. Sleeveless with middrift? With a hint of cleavage, it would be lethal.

You have no idea . . . I'm still kicking myself as I definitely felt a connection between us. She'll probably be at the next convention at the end of August, so maybe I'll see her again.

Little tidbit V2.0. Pluto's new moon has been named. Along with Charon are Hydra and Nix. For those unaware, Pluto has 3 moons and maybe a possible ring. Scientist hint at a possible 4th moon and will be studing the planet over the 8 years, preparing targets for the New Horizon mission there by July 2015. We will probably get a closer look about 9 months before rendezvous with the planet.

Nix? Oh for fuck's sake, what a truly awesome goddess wasted on such an unimportant thing as a moon! Who picks the names for Gawd's sake! :angry

Hang on a tick....I thought we were still trying to make up our collective minds whether or not Pluto IS a planet at all?

May not be a planet, but that doesn't mean it can't have a moon... or perhaps satellite would be a better word. :smirks:

Well your thread didn't mention a babe scientist in a ST Mirror Universe uniform, did it?
:)
Actually, I remember that thread now. That is a very cool video and there were others she showed us that were just stunning.

We weren't, but the scientific community is apparently is.
