It's true why does he? I always wondered. I'm actually doing research and the Dark KNight and I wondered if you could tell me what you thought about it and about the film in general. I'm a student and I really need the help of fans so please answer my fun and quick survey about Batman... Thank you so much

Probably the same reason he does throughout the Batman comics mythos-either he is a liar and changes to suit his current local or he is so far gone he truly can't remember and fills in the blanks with whatever comes to mind at the time.

He once commented (in The Killing Joke perhaps?) that if he had to have a past he'd rather it be multiple choice.

I do not know, but now that you mentioned it, I am also wondering why the different versions of the scars.
