Please choose one or two of the following books as our first Book Club selection. We'll leave the voting open for about a week, then see what comes out on top! Remember, we can always read the second or third place books another time.

So...am I too late to join in the book club?
I can't promise huge amounts of activity, but I'd love to try if you'd have me!

Same here. I vote for Running with Scissors, because I saw the trailer for the movie and it looks pretty funny, but I'd like to read the book first!

Looks neck and neck for Scissors and Time Traveler's Wife.

The geek in me leans toward the latter.

But I'm a follower, I'll go with the crowd

Ok, I just ordered my TTW from QPB. Hopefully it'll be here within a few days.

Okay, the votes are in and "The Time Traveler's Wife" is our selection. That sucker is 560 pages, so when do you want to start discussing it? We have two options: divide the book into two or three sections, and open discussion on them on separate dates; or set one date to finish the whole thing.

What do people think?

Divide and conquer.

I agree. Maybe even one thread a chapter?

We just spent 2 weeks tryng to agree on what to read, now we have to agree on how to read it?!?!?!

:D Just kidding. Divide and conquer makes sense. Every three chapters maybe?

I picked The Time Traveler's Wife.

Once someone gets a copy of the book, let us know if it has any logical divisions (ie, in parts), or if we should just arbitrarily divide it by length. I'll try to get to the library this weekend and check it out.

Should we aim to talk about the first section Sept. 1?

That would be fine by me. I'll probably be going by the library next week to see if I can pick up a copy.

I got to the library on my lunch break today, and I was able to pick up The Time Traveler's Wife. I even had time to read about 15 pages or so. :D

The book is divided into chapters...each chapter having a seperate section from each character's point of view. So we can probably divide the book up by length, corresponding with chapter endings. I will say that it seems like the book will be a fairly quick read.

I have no suggestions on how much we should read before discussion. I could easily have it finished by September, so I leave it to you guys.

I got the book today. I read about 40 pages or so at the laundromat, and I am enchanted. Rarely have I actually been pulled in by the first chapter. I agree with Strider about this being a quick read. I don't really see a good way to divide it, so maybe every 100 pages or so?

I'm actually around page 350ish. I am having a hard time breaking the book up. My last grouping ended with a good resolution, and it felt right to take a break there, even if it wasn't the end of a chapter. About 13 pages later I wanted to take another break. Now I am so far in, I don't know where to cut the book for discussion. Help, please!

I think three parts is enough for splitting. More than that, we'll have too many threads. If you find someplace likely in the next 50 pages, break it there. I haven't started reading yet, I've got another book out from the library, but I hope to start next week.

OK, as of right now, only 5 of us have even discussed this book. What happened to everyone else?

Maybe they popped out for a bit of time travel.

Or maybe they took that "September Book Club" heading literally...

I could'nt afford to buy the book and we just signed up at the local library. When you all start a new book. I will get it from the library. So sorry.

Don't apologize. :( The threads will be there whenever you get around to reading it. I was just wondering what happened to everyone.

I can mail you my copy if you'd like? You just have to send it back when you are done so my sis can read it.

You would do that? That is so sweet. We will be going to the library this weekend. I am sure they have it there. I need something to do other than this computer and t.v.

If the library does not have it. I will send you a p.m. with my address.

I came in too late for September.... but I'll be all ready to go for October.

So are we going to start an October poll?

I still want Night and Running with Scissors on the list, but I'd like to add Wicked by Gregory Maguire and Beasts of No Nation by Uzodinma Iweala, even though it is only 160 pages.
