View Full Version : What celebrity of a race/ethnicity other than yours, do you find attractive?

That entire Mel Gibson racial controversy had me thinking. Can people find something as basic as physical attraction (ignoring religion, culture, country of origin etc.) in someone who doesn’t look like them?

I’ll start with a couple of ladies, who are of a different race/ethnicity than my own who I think are attractive.

Well, lets see here. . .I am white. . .my husband is black. . .

I have dated Latino Men. . . .

Asian men have their moments of being attractive. But, most are too short for me. I am almost six foot tall.

If you watch "BIG BROTHER" Kaysar on that show is hot and his is from Iraq.

Hell, I just look at the cast of "Lost," and I'd take Jin, Sayid, or Michael over plain white Jack any day! (Although Sawyer is yummy, too, I must admit.) That new guy they're bringing in for next season, I think he's Latino, is mighty fine as well.

Yes, I am an equal-opportunity objectifier of male celebrities.

I would have to say all of them.

I'm half Caucasian and half Puerto Rican so there aren't a ton of people exactly like me anyway.

I have dated White, Puerto Rican, and Black guys but wouldn't rule anyone out.

My wife is ethnic east indian, Punjabi by way of Fiji, and I had dated women from several ethnic groups before her. I have a very open and curious outlook towards other ethnicities and cultures. As anyone else, my point of view was developed by how and what I experienced growing up. But it was not in lockstep with what my parents taught, but in my father's case, contrary to it.

I grew up in a household with a father who had a skewed way of looking at people who were different than him. When he was a child he grew up in the turmoil of Hitler's Germany. He was given the mind-fuck about race that all kids got who were forced to join the Hitler Youth at a certain age. After a couple years of this brainwashing, he and his aunt (who was raising him) bailed when things got too weird and he almost got sent to Berlin with the other young men on the last defense of the Nazi government.

When he got out of Germany he came to the US and stayed with his uncle in Los Angeles, who had quite a different mind-set on race than my dad was used to. This uncle had married a hispanic woman from the American southwest, and his friends were from a varied and rich ethnic background from the world over. There was always someone visiting or staying over at the uncle's house who may have been of a different race, color, religion, etc. Quite the experience for someone coming from a stratified anthill of a society like Hitler's.

As my dad reach adulthood, he was drafted into the military and had to learn about working with people of all races and backgrounds. He made some close friends with some guys of Mexican heritage, but could never explain to me (or himself) why he got along with them and not other hispanic/mexican people.

My father wrestled with all this different input, these different ideas, throughout my childhood. At times he strongly voiced opinions that I felt were very racist, and I fought back against this. Many times my siblings and myself argued with him about what his thoughts and feelings were on people not like him.

Living with this turmoil from my dad made me look at others with very open eyes. I don't know if I just wanted to do the opposite of what I saw him doing, as kids/teens will do, but I was always curious to learn about other races and cultures, to discover the ways people are alike while at the same time fascinatingly different. I was quite the opposite of my father on race and culture.

When I started dating the woman who became my wife, my father started to get a handle on his inner turmoil and confusion on race. One night my dad was sitting with my mom after the family had a good dinner together and everyone else, including my future wife, had left. I was in another room and overheard my dad say "I like Richard's girlfriend....she is really nice....but".

My mom asked him, "But what? What is the 'but'?"

My dad was silent for a long time. Eventually I heard him quietly say "There isn't any 'but'....none at all." At this point I think my dad finally made a decision on how he was going to look at other people. I saw a change in him after that evening. He had met someone who he liked from a different race, who meant the world to his son, and could give him no reason to dislike. He realized he did not care what the color of my girlfriend's skin was, or what ways of thinking she had. He simply realized he liked her for her, as an individual.

He now looks as if he has had a weight lifted from his shoulders.

Today, my dad has no problem joining in on some of the Indian traditions and functions when he comes up to Nor. Cal. to visit. He sits and bullshits with two of my neighbors over beers, and doesn't care at all that they are black, they are just his buddies. His attitude towards everyone is different, much more relaxed and friendly. He is not seeing the outside of people anymore, but who they really are. He is appreciating their heart and soul.

Bokchoi, I cannot image a more total mind-fuck then growing up like your Father did. If he was able to grow and change, then I guess there is still some hope in the world.

I have to disagree about Michael. He's too much of a whiny bitch. Even if he was the hottest man on earth, his whining would kill any attraction.

Let's not forget my sexy Cuban, Eddie Cibrian... or his dimples...

And I'd say Eddie Cibrian is very yummy, but I have to go with Trixie and jump all over Carlos Bernard. In my household they know one reason I love watching "24" is because of "Hot Tony." (He's never just plain "Tony," always "Hot Tony.")

I think most, if not all, men would agree. Beauty knows no ethnic boundary. All women are beautiful, regardless of their race.

I think I have some kind of "type" imbedded in my subconscious to which I'm attracted. I can't really put my finger on it, but I think it is a basic "look" that crosses all ethnic boundaries. I suspect all of us men have a built-in preference. We can't explain what that might be, but we know it when we see it.

So, as for three celebrity women I would find personally most attractive. I'm picking 3, just to have a number.

1. Parker Posey.
I don't know why, but I am just drawn to her like a moth to a flame.

2. Bai Ling
I could spend hours (probably years) just trying to figure her out.

3. Gabrielle Union
She has that "something" I really like.

Just out of curiosity, if someone isn't attracted to someone of a different ethnicity, would you consider them a racist? I've had some people tell me they would consider that person a racist, and others don't have a problem with it. Just wondering what the general consensus is on that.

I generally don't find women (or men) of other races attractive. It's the closet biggot in me.

It's also who I associate with... again not really racist... just circumstantial. There are 12 white kids in my school in my grade... they are my friend group. We're the Theatre/Montessori kids.

I think one of the reasons I seem to only like people of my race is I like blondes...

Al-Dog
08-15-2006, 04:18 PM
I wouldn’t necessarily call them racist, but I would say that they are limited in their thinking. I’ve have black friends who only dated white women. I have white friends who in the time I’ve know them, never dated a women of their own race. I think that’s limited thinking also.

As far as this thread is concerned, I wasn’t talking about dating, I was just wondering if people could look beyond their own race or ethnic group and say, that person over there is kind of cute. I think that it’s great that most people who have responded seem to be able do that.

I’ve always found it amazing when people have a narrow standard for what they consider beautiful. “They have to be 5’6 (not 5’4 or 5’8) blond hair (no red heads, no brown) blue eyes (not green or brown or hazel), and a size 6 with a D cup”.

It’s a big world, with a lot beautiful people. Open your eyes.
