What's your favorite Star Trek movie?

Star Trek: The Motion Picture, a deeply underrated epic. Grand, thought-provoking science fiction. I think this movie has never gotten the respect it deserves, simply because of the Star Trek label. IMO, it belongs up there with the other greats of that whole late-70's sf rennaissance--Alien, Star Wars, Close Encounters. I was enthralled watching the exploration of V'Ger when I was six years old, and the ending took me truly by surprise.

The Undiscovered Country, tho I'm with Tycoon on STTMP not getting it's propers. I just watched The Day The Earth Stood Still, and Robert Wise was a director who "got" science fiction.

I haven't enjoyed a Star Trek movie as much as I have enjoyed TVH. The others are more epic, moving, cinematicly awesome, and whatnot, but I didn't enjoy them as much as saving the whales.

Have to go with TMP. Same reasons as Tycoon. It's the movie most in line with Roddenberry's ideas. IMO. Hell, the Goldsmith score alone, should rank this movie quite high with anyone.

I too have fond memories of seeing this film, in my youth. I was 14 and can still remember the full page COLOR ad in my paper for TMP. Color was not used in papers back in the day, nearly as much as today. Hardly ever.

I know, it had some rough edges and the old crew were finding their "sea legs", but I still vote for it as my favorite.

It is an incredibly underated film . . .

I'm not sure why it got such a lukewarm reception back in '79' ?
