I've been seriously lacking on the time to watch Dvd Commentaries from my collection on the road(mini-collection) but at the insistence of a know-it-all, I decided to watch commentary from Kurt R. and John C. from "The Thing" last night.

The Thing has been one of my favorite movies of all time for quite a long time now but I just never got around to watching commentary on it.

I have to recommend it to all who has this dvd to watch it because their conversations while the movie is taking place is freaking awesome. It's quite obvious they were having a good time.

John C: "This location was a real pain in the ass because we couldn't find a good spot to buy beer!"

John C: "If you notice here...when the helicopter takes off and Kurt takes over the controls, you're going to see it waver alittle bit because of Kurt's expert flying skills<laugh>"

Later on..

Kurt: "This is best line of the movie....here it comes....<laughing>"

Scene: Palmer looking at the head-morfed alien scurrying out of the room...."You got to be kidding me....."

Review:

5 Stars for this baby.

I decided to watch commentary from Kurt R. and John C. from "The Thing" last night.

Which version of the DVD? The original special edition or the more recent one?

One of the best commentary sets are on the Family Guy DVDs. While they don't do every episode, the ones they do are hilarious. Also, On the Simpsons DVDs, any episode commentary with Jon Lovitz or Conan O'Brian is fantastic!

Haha...King, Im watching the Outtakes on The Thing right now....its also awesome...I recommend it.

Garry: "Did you catch what the Norwegian said??"

Childs with a look: "Do I look like I speak Norwegian to youuuuu?"

:D

Some great scenes in Outtakes.

I recommend it, King.

I enjoy commentaries a great deal, I hate that there's different ones on every re-release. I prefer the practice of "nothing on the original release, everything on the special edition."

BTW I think that the cast commentaries on the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition DVDs are the best of any I've seen. They work well together off-screen just like they were in front of the camera.

I know what you mean on the differences. I'm watching all the extras on this dvd right now because I'm looking for a Rob Bottin interview that a friend recommended but I cannot find it on this new version.

Still, some great stuff.

I've got to reccommend the commentary on This Is Spinal Tap. It's hysterical...David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls reunite to give their thoughts on the pile of crap they thought the movie was. They spend the whole time bashing Marty DiBergi and reminiscing on all the people in the film that are now dead.

Any commentary featuring Kurt Russell is worthwhile; people talk about the ones he did with Carpenter but the best is the one for "Used Cars" with Zemeckis and Gale. Great fun.

The track for "The Goonies" is pretty entertaining too. And most of the commentaries for Kevin Smith movies ("Mallrats" being the tops).

Okay, I'm officially done with the extra goodies on the Thing as recommended by Deacon above.

5 star review has turned into 10 stars, mainly because of the documentary I just watched.

Documentary is called : John Carpenter's The Thing: Terror Takes Shape

It's not some 10 minute quick documentary either. It's about 2 hours long and it's hell of extensive for everything with tons ...tons of interviews from everyone involved in the film.

You all will get a definite kick out of the special effects Rob Bottin. He's hilarious.

Just about all the extras on the new edition of The Thing makes this film a must buy. Especially for fans of the genre but it's pretty much for everyone.

I can't remember off the top of my head (and am stuck at work at the moment) but it was either the South Park movie or Baseketball where Matt Parker and Trey Stone do the commentary while getting drunk. At the beginning of the movie they are sober and somewhat coherent but by the end you can hardly tell what they are saying, it's hilarious!

The commentary for Spinal Tap is great.

Also, the commentary for Dude Where's My Car is great during one particular moment. They comment that one of the extras from the strip club scene was coming on to Scott, but he declined because he had a girlfriend. He's a good guy. They then send Scott out to get more beer, and Kutcher and the director start with, "he totally made it with that stripper chick!"

The commentary for the first season of Drawn Together is pretty damn funny, ESPECIALLY the first episode. I was rolling on the floor. Anytime you get the actors (guys AND girls) talking about a time they had a gay experience on the first episode, and then two episodes later spending the whole time making fun of handicapped kids, you know you've found something special! Penis-puppets, meaty vaginas, toothless strippers, it's alllll there....

Any Bruce Campbell commentary is a good one, especially the Elvis commentary on Bubba Ho-Tep.

The Goonies

The Thing

LOTR all three Dom and Billy are hysterical.

I have to say , . . .

One of the best & most enjoyable DvD commentaries I've ever heard was 2001 - Superman: the movie / Richard Donner / Tom Mank

It's like 2 guys sitting around eating pie & having a cup of joe , talking about old times, good memories & fun stories . . .

I totally recommend it!
