Now, I know the cool thing is to hate Ben Affleck, but this actually looks promising. Anyone else planning on seeing this?

Again, this looks a video rental. $1.99 vs. $10, I'd rather risk the $1.99 viewing.

If it wasn't Ben Affleck, I'd probably see this in the theater. I like old Hollywood mysteries, but Affleck never really sells me on his character, and that would ruin this one for me. I may rent it.

I'll probably see it, I love films set in that period (LA Confidential anyone?). I'm not crazy about the Ben Affleck bit, but after watching the trailer, I think the focus is going to mostly be on Adrien Brody investigating the case, with Affleck's stuff mostly in flashback.

On a related note, it's interesting that Black Dahlia is being released around the same time, with both movies claiming "the most notorious unsolved murder in California's history". You'd think studios would've spread the two out a little more.

Marilyn Monroe is the most famous unsolved murder in Hollywood.

I am definitely going to see the Black Dahlia.

I'll be there.

If it centered around Affleck, maybe not. But I'm not bother seeing Ben in a supporting role.

From the reviews I've been hearing, Affleck is quite good in this. Honestly, I don't think he's as horrible an actor as people say he is.:dunno:

I think Affleck is actually a good actor, but that he made horrible choices in roles for the past long while. He chose blockbusters rather than quality, and he was over-exposed - so now if you hear "Ben Affleck" is in a movie, your natural reaction (at least, mine is) is that it's not going to be anything great. This could have been avoided if he'd followed the route his buddy Matt Damon took. And maybe if he'd never, ever, gone near Jennifer Lopez. :smirk: At least Hollywoodland looks promising. He just needs to start making wiser and better choices.

Agreed.

Totally. Another thing I have noticed is that if Kevin Smith is anywhere near a movie he's in, his acting goes up a huge notch: Good Will Hunting, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jersey Girl...
