So we all know what movie Hollywood is planning on making, but what movies do you want to see up on the big screen?
Personally, I'd like to see a live-action Cowboy Bebop. With the music, the film-noir-ish style, and the right director and cinematographer this could be friggin awesome!

I'd like to see a good, anti-communist film about the Afghan War of the 1980's, and the Mujahideen who defended their country. There really haven't been that many, at least not in wide circulation in the West.
The Russians have made a few films in that genre, told from their perspective, which apparently were pretty good. 9-ya rota, or The 9th Company, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417397/) has been compared favourably to Platoon and Full Metal Jacket.
But I'd like to see something from the standpoint of the resistance. With US forces in Afghanistan, it would be possible for at least some on-location filming, even some local volunteers could get in on the production.

The overriding one for me is for someone skilled and patient to make the Dark Tower(Stephen King) series for the big screen.
Though, of course, I really don't want them to screw it up so I'd rather they not do it all at the very same time.
I know, I know....How can you want and yet, not want something?
Oh well...That's one of my answers.
Since this is a very open question and there are so many options, I'll get back to you with more. :D

I think the Dark Tower would be very tricky to do. One, would people want to see 7 movies in a non-family film franchise (and would Hollywood be willing to go out on a limb in the first place), and two, would a movie adaptation be able to adequately convey the dense and often self-referential material found in the books?

The answer is of course ....No.
I thought you said "What a Cine Geek wants!?"
:D Not what a cine geek believes the buttheads can pull off over there in Hollyweird.

It was my pleasure. :D
I'll try and think of some movies I wish would occur which hollywood CAN pull off and wouldn't ruin the experience felt from the books.

A movie with some real magic in it. I want some fireballs and lighting bolts and stuff like that. Shooting different colors out of your wand or animal shapes doesn't cut it for me.
A good thing would be to make the Dragonlance books into movies. God, that would be awesome. I'd also like to see Michael A Stackpoles Dark Glory War series made into movies.

Which series?

Well, this seems to be turning into another "What book what you like to see filmed" thread, but I would like to see someone make 'Carter Beats the Devil' into a movie. Robert Towne was lined up a few years back, but then dropped out.
Same with Lee Child's Jack Reacher series. Clark Johnson was gonna do 'The Killing Floor', but then that fell into limbo.

Obviously, ST hasn't seen this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090056/) film. Granted, the whole thing isn't about the Afghan War, but the entire second act is!:D

When I was 13, I thought Spies Like Us was hilarious. Years later, it still packs a few good laughs.
And that Vanessa Angel? Fuhgeddahbouddit!!
I think some of our favorite book series are not meant for the big screen, but would make awesome tv shows. I would love to see Goodkind's Sword of Truth series hit sci-fi.

I would love to see a trilogy set-up of (don't hate me) Final Fantasy VI done in live action. Sure, there would have to be a lot of tweaking, but the basic storyline and setting would have to be there. And that's not a typo, I meant VI.
I'd also like to see a sci-fi twist that isn't reliant on A): Special effects battles (like Star Wars and Matrix sequels) or B): The is this or isn't this reality premise. There used to be a time when sci-fi films were built around a really cool premise.

I think the original Heritage of Shannara series by Terry Brooks would make a good mini-series, also Brooks' Running With the Demon would make a good movie.

I'm still holding out hope for a faithful (ha ha) film adaptation of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials"--with Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter.

You know, I got a really good deal on a set of the first three Shannara books, so I forced myself to read them. Was it just me, or do you feel like a hobbit on an adventure? I just felt like they were such a rip-off. Besides, how many damned adventures do these idiots, and the idiot children and so forth, that they know are dangerous and arduous, have to go on before they think about carrying a weapon of some sort, or riding a horse?

I would love to see the Sten novels made into film. It could be anything, from live action to animation.
I would also like to see "Buckaroo Banzai vs The World Crime League" finally made.

It wasn't just you. I've never found his Shannara books to be that enjoyable, just derivative. I can't imagine a film/miniseries based on that original series would be that much fun.
THANK YOU!!! Man, I thought I was just being a big hater, but I was just so disgusted with myself for continuing to read them when it was boring me to tears. ~wishes she was one of those people that could put a book down after hating the first 100 damn pages~
