As the quote goes in Jurassic Park:

"Everybody hold onto your butts!"

The NFL season actually began Thursday with the Steelers beating Culpepper's new team Miami Dolphins but everyone else starts up in a few short hours.

Not sure how confident I am with my Chiefs. Two of my pro-bowl offensive tackles have retired over the offseason. I've had a awesome running game for years with an offensive line that was never injured, not to mention Holmes(now NA/retired basically) with L. Johnson taking over with good measure. How the offensive line holds up now, it's anyone guess.

I just got back from the liquor store, though, so at least I'm prepared for any beatings that start out the season. :D

(Definitely wondering if my defense got better over the offseason with the addition of Edwards as the headcoach. No doubt about it, Chiefs defense has been horrible the last few years much to the horror of it's fans.....ARGH.)

I'm not too keen on Edwards as a headcoach either. It's not like the Jets have done anything spectacular. I'm definitely worried, folks, about Chiefs chances this year and having to open the season against the Bengals doesn't help my outlook.

How about your teams....I'm sure Adam is looking forward to Sunday Night Football. His Colts vs the Giants. Hell, I'm sure most ppl are looking forward to that game. Should be at least fun watching the Manning bros play against each other. :D

The Packers play their rivals the Bears today at 3. That is always fun to watch. I won't get to see my Lions get killed by the Seahawks. :( You never know, though, Detroit pulls a crazy game out of their asses every once in a while, so I might miss a good game. Either way... GO DETROIT!

Well, the Lions lost (no big surprise), but I was really impressed by the defense--5 sacks? Holding Shawn Alexander to under 60 yds? Two blocked field goals? Now if the offense can just get their shit together, maybe they'll make some progress. I don't think it'll happen next week against Chicago, though. Hopefully we get to the sad-sack portion of the schedule soon.

I saw the end of the Detroit game. Not bad. The Packers, however, got SLAUGHTERED by the Bears. It was mildly entertaining until about the half, and then it was just tedious, and my guy friends were actually talking about turning it off :O. I don't think the new coach is going to last the whole season without getting canned.

Funny little side note about the Pack. They are holding a tenth anniversary of the last SuperBowl win celebration. ROFLMMFAO. Seriously? They are celebrating? I would think they would be sad they haven't had a winning season in 10 YEARS, but instead, they are holding a party celebrating how good they were 10 years ago.

That is pretty funny. Why even bother? Any reason to party and drink.

I was a huge 49'ers fan when I lived in San Francisco. Went to a lot of games. Loved watching Steve Young and Jerry Rice.

Now, that I am about 30 miles from Chicago. I am considering the Bear's to be a team to root for. Since they kicked ass yesterday.

Gotta say, for the first time in a long time, the 49ers lost well this weekend. I didn't see the game but I can't tell you the last time they lost by only a touchdown.

I have hope for this season. It's inexcusable for them to go less than 6-10 and 8-8 really is achievable. They may even be able to strike at the playoffs in a year or two.

DarkJedi

Chiefs indeed got their butts whipped. 2nd quarter, things looked fine...score tied up. By the middle mark of the 3rd quarter, it was pathetic.

At 4:19 to go in the 3rd quarter, Green's head hit the ground pretty damn hard and the world was silenced for 25 minutes as he lay there, without moving at all....all fans wondering if he broke his neck or something.

Yeah, that game was depressing as a season opener.

DarkJedi
09-11-2006, 02:04 PM
Oh yeah, sickness, the Niners lost real well....In fact, Alex Smith drove down the field in the last minute to tie the game, just couldnt finish it off.

Alex Smith had a better QB day then Bledsoe and quite a bit of the other well known QBS.

Niner fans have something to be happy about for sure. We have the football package and yesterday, we had a Chiefs fan(me obviiously),a Cowboys fan(sister), a Niners fan(bro in law), and a Titans fan(friend) watching the tv together..The niners game was the most surprising out of the everyone's games.

That's what we were saying, cuch, to my sister yesterday(a hard core Cowboys fan). We were having fun watching and talking about how Owens was going to go bitter very quickly when Bledsoe finally gave Owens a TD pass. It probably calmed him alittle to get his stats up but I'm sure it's coming if he doesnt get thrown to, every 2 out of 3 plays the rest of the season.

I cannot believe the Chiefs didn't get blown the heck out yesterday in Denver without Trent Green. It goes to show how bad Denver is hurting right now. They lost week 1, relying on Elam for their points mostly and yesterday, they still relied on Elam...

I was shaking my head at some of Edwards play calls when the 4th quarter was winding down. He's way too conversative. The chiefs are not the jets, Edwards. Sheesh.

Hey Nat just wait till the Raiders come to town. You know the Raiders are on the clock for the first pick in the draft next year, hello Brady Quinn.

DarkJedi

It does seem like the AFC West division is now losing the "strongest Afc" division for amount of good teams. Now, the Steelers division is looking even tougher then us.

Who would have though Bengals and Baltimore would be powerhouses this early? Palmer isn't that old and Steve McNair's first year at Baltimore...

So, what do people think the odds are for the Raiders going Ofor? And if you don't think they'll go 0for when do you think they'll get their first win? I don't think Oakland will go 0fer. I think that while there's a chance they could beat Cleveland in Week 4, there is also a chance that they could be winless until Week 13 when they'll more then likely beat Houston.

DarkJedi
09-19-2006, 05:25 PM
Well the good thing for the Raiders is we know they play my Chiefs and the Broncos at least twice each, Son and Cuch. Since our teams suck(maybe less than the Raiders), they have some sort of shot at maybe getting some victories out of those inside-division matchups.

I can't wait for Green to get back healthy and Edwards to lose his Jets playbook and find Vermeil's old playbook....

I have to say I feel utterly disgusted for the Arizona Cardinal's defense right now. I mean, that team played beautifully all night long. They played like THEY were the Number #1 defense of the league. Rex Grossman had 4 interceptions and 2 fumbles himself from the Cardinals defense.

I feel sickened to the core for them because even with everything they did tonight, Dennis Green and the Cardinals Offensive Coordinator LOST this game for them. The play calls from the 2nd quarter(when they had a 20-0 lead) to the end were freaking laughable. The kicker who missed the fieldgoal will go to sleep tonight saying it's his fault...but it's not. It's the Cardinals coaching staff(offensive and head coach). It's all them. The FG kicker should never have been put in that position.

Unbelievable game! Sickening to the core for how badly the Cardinals defense gets screwed over in the result.

What a wild and wacky game, normally if somebody threw four interceptions it was guaranteed your team would lose the game; this highlights the solid team that Chicago is- if they can't get their Offense on track then their Special Teams and Defense will win it for them- GO BEARS! WOOHOO!

Don't go pumping the Bears up too much. They are undefeated in a weak division and they almost lost to a weak team in a weaker division. Their defense did little and their offense did less. They won the game on 3 key plays, two of which were created by chance. The Bears got freaking OWNED last night.

That's why I feel for the Cardinal's defensive squad. They didn't allow shit from the Bears the whole game. Not just part of the game or two quarters but the whole freaking game....They played like they were #1 in defense...and yet their coaches called plays from the 2nd quarter throughout like amateurs.

TOTALLY WRONG- most of the points the Cards scored was when they got it
off Bear turnovers (with the exception of the one drive Leinart did)
and the Bear defense finally shut down the Cards, limiting them to one
field goal in the second half (okay, so the idiot Card kicker missed
the game winning field goal but still...) and wiped their butts in the
4th quarter. Did you even watch the game or just the highlight show?

The bottom line is that every team has a bad game (the Eagles and
Steelers didn't do so well in the first few games and neither did
Carolina but now everyone is gushing about them because of their
performances last weekend) and this was a very bad game by Grossman- he
was under a lot of pressure and made rookie mistakes (this is like his
what? 13th start over 3 seasons so technically he is still
inexperienced as if he was playing only his first season as a starter)
and was trying for the big play rather than doing little dink passes
(prolly cuz he was in the national spotlight so it put extra pressure
on him) that could have kept the offense moving. After the bye week we
can see if Grossman gets back to his usual MVP self or he stays
terrible- in that case the Bears have got the best backup QB in the
entire League with Brian Griese. What is so remarkable is that the
Bears, despite having a terrible time on offense- wins the game.

Great teams find a way to win. End of story.

Addendum: I have this personal theory about "cursed" teams like the
Browns and Cards- it's their uniforms!

Case in point: Denver- even though they made it to the Superbowl like 3
times when they wore those horrible orange jerseys and blue helmets, it
wasn't until they switched to dark blue helmets and jerseys did they
finally win 2 back to back Superbowls. Same as the Bucs- it wasnt until
they switched from their orange juice jerseys to crimson and gold with
a skull as their insignia did they finally win one. The Cards will
never win a Superbowl till they get rid of that Cartoon Network bird on
their team logos- they should change their name to something like the
Arizona Gila Monsters or something- anything to make them more
aggressive. Look at the former Browns when they switched uniforms and
became the Baltimore Ravens- they won a Superbowl too!

Oh, man! Those Bears are so great!!! They blew that powerhouse Miami out of the water!!! No contest there at all!! And their division rivals are beating the pants off highly ranked teams, too!!! Man, gotta hand it to those Bears!!!

Actually, they only squeaked by Miami, but, hey, the AFC South is strong, right? And Minnesota still beat the 49ers, right? And Green Bay beat a loser like Buffalo, right? And Detroit's at least 4-4, right?

Oh, wait. Miami sucks, but the Bears still beat them, right?

Oh, wait. Miami beat The Bears. But only by a few and Minnesota just squeaked by SF.

Oops! Wrong on both counts. Miami wiped the floor with DA BEARS, Minnesota got beat by a team who can follow Green Bay's lead of celebrating 10 years of suckitude in another couple years themselves, Green Bay got cleaned up on by Buffalo and Detroit (shocking!!!) is 2-6.

Like I said, Da Bears are the strongest team in a weak division with an easy schedule and the Arizona game is still proof. Arizona fails to cough up one of two fumbles and Chicago was defeated 2 weeks ago.

Dude, when you claim the Bears owned Arizona when they needed two chance mistakes to win the game, you're not acknowledging reality. Spin this how you want but the Bears are nothing more than a wildcard team if they were in the AFC. You're still not acknowledging their weak schedule. You're still not acknowledging their weak division. I'd love to see them play Indy or New England. Torn to shreds. How would you explain that? How do you explain the multiple close calls against bad teams already this season?

And if you'd pay attention to this board at all, you'd know that I'm a 49er fan, tried and true, despite almost 10 years of suckitude at the hands of John Dork -- I mean York.

Quote any of the things I said in which I wrote that the Bears whupped AZ- I myself said that they didn't deserve to win yet they did (because their defense and special teams bailed them out). As far as their weak schedule it doesn't mean much when any team can beat anybody (this has been proven just last week). As I said, good teams will find a way to win- the Colts squeaked by many of their opponents so far (they barely won against the Jets, Titans and Broncos) and the playoffs present a totally different ballgame (the Colts have fallen flat every time) so I owuld suggest you try not to overanalyze a loss like this (non-divisional) as if it was the all-defining moment of any team.

As far as your Niners- I guess youre just mad the Bears gave your boys a decent drubbing...

11-08-2006, 09:21 AM
Whatever. You think I'm mad because one team that had won a few games in a row beat my team? You underestimate me, sir. If I was going to be so childish as to be upset at a team for beating my team, I'd be pissed off at practically the entire league.

As for the Niners, they've already matched their win total from last season and put together two wins in a row. I think my prediction of a minimum 6-10 is about as close to a lock as things get with them and 7-9 is possible.

sickness
11-27-2006, 12:13 AM
Gotta hand it to the Bears. They didn't win and they didn't play a perfect game, but they didn't let the Pats play one either. They kept it close and made the Pats work for it the whole way.

I think this is an improtant game as far as showing the disparity between the conferences. A 9-1 team in the NFC has difficulty with a 7-3 AFC team and gets forced into some bad mistakes or doesn't see some textbook defensive takeaways coming. It really cost them.

I'll actually go on record now and say that an AFC team will win the Super Bowl. Whether it's New England, Indy or a dark horse, I won't even venture a guess but the NFC is just not going to cut it this year.
