Ok, we've been chastised for posting entertainment news in the Asylum, so here's a thread for such stories. Obey or get the shock treatment!
First up:

Fox Gets Religion
In an effort to attract the enormous church-going audience that flooded theaters to see Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, Fox Filmed Entertainment is expected to announce today (Tuesday) that it is creating a new division, FoxFaith, that will produce as many as 12 films a year, half of which will have theatrical releases and the other half going directly to home video. According to today's (Tuesday) Los Angeles Times, the first theatrical release under the new banner will be Love's Abiding Joy, due to open on Oct. 6 at theaters operated by Carmike Cinemas and AMC Theatres. The studio hopes to attract evangelical Christians who have traditionally stayed away from current movie fare, regarding it as offensive and irreligious. Commenting on the studio's plans, the Times observed: "Fox might seem an unlikely studio to pioneer a religious label, given its history as a purveyor of salacious TV programming. Yet people in the Christian community say the company has gained credibility as the voice for conservative America through its Fox News Channel."
And yes I realize there's a celebrities in the news thread, this one is for general industry news.

Do you think this plan will work?
I mean, the other faith based channels already produce faith based straight to video movies with much success and they've had a headstart. Obviously, Fox has more revenue to dip into for advertising but this whole "taking advantage of this market" idea seems more of a hollywood fad.
Btw, thanks for moving it.

I do not think it is a good idea. I am sorry but most christians do not have the money to go and see a movie. They give 10% already to their church.
I personally have no intrest in it.

LeBlanc Goes It Alone in Divorce Court
Former "Friends" star Matt LeBlanc is set to show off his legal skills when he hits divorce court with his estranged wife Melissa -- he's planning to represent himself.
In divorce papers obtained by TMZ.com, the actor makes it clear he feels he can win the battle without a high-powered attorney.
Sources claim LeBlanc is confident the divorce trial will be a speedy and simple affair because he and his ex signed a prenuptial agreement and have already agreed on joint custody of their 2-year-old daughter.
That hasn't stopped the soon-to-be ex Mrs. LeBlanc from hiring a lawyer -- she will be represented in court.
TMZ.com suggests LeBlanc feels confident about his divorce court skills after taking advice from top celebrity lawyer Neal Hersh this summer.
"I'm not a lawyer, but I play one on tv....Oh, wait....."
Damn, this is one of those times I really wish they would televise stuff like this on Court TV. You just know he's gonna get hosed, schooled, and reamed by a tunnel digging machine before her lawyer's through with him.

If the movies were full of cataclysmic special effects and violence and lots of bloodshed and perversion, nasty romans, rivers turning to blood, plagues of insects, beasts rising from the ocean, sacrifices, just like the book of Revelations...or any of the Old Testament, for that matter.... bring it on! :jump2:
Michael Bay should direct. :)
Or David Lynch.

Their headquarters looks like some vulgar Las Vegas resort, and they out-do the Bakkers in bad taste and downright evangelical evil. The only thing more disgusting than these two and their cast of sideshow freaks are the legions of idiot followers they bilk money out of to support their garish, over-the-top lifestyle.

With any luck, Fox's hypocrisy will bite them in the ass and these same high-moralled people that Fox is looking to pander to won't buy into their attempt to squeeze money out of them until the pot stops calling the kettle black and changes itself.
No matter how much he might scream it at the mountain tops, Rupert Murdoch doesn't have conservative values. He's saying whatever he can to make money. That's all that matters to him.
No? You don't think so? Then explain to me the likes of his "commie-lib" programming, as some right-wing nuts might call it, on the Fox broadcast network and all the advertising sold youth-oriented products and companies, particularly involving hip-hop culture, while Bill O'Reilly and friends go on personal crusades to interfere with, say, Ludacris' ability to make money. If there's no market for it, he won't make money. But if News Corp. is run by a true conservative as a true conservative company, it wouldn't be talkin' out both sides of its ass.

Irwin's Memorial To Wind Up on DVD
Funeral services generally don't end up being sold on DVDs, but Steve Irwin's may be an exception. The Sydney Morning Herald reported today (Wednesday) that the Crocodile Hunter's service on Tuesday, which was televised worldwide, is likely to be made available on DVD. Judi Bailey, a spokeswoman for Crocodile Hunter producer John Stainton, who produced the service, told the newspaper, "We've obviously been discussing [a DVD release]." The service featured clips from Irwin's wildlife shows and tributes from a number of celebrities, including actors Russell Crowe and Cameron Diaz. The Herald called it "a slickly produced spectacle, perfectly packaged for television."

Jolie Lands Dream Role As Taggart
Angelina Jolie has won her dream role - as author Ayn Rand's iconic heroine Dagney Taggart. Jolie, a longtime fan of Russian-born Rand, has been quietly campaigning to play Taggart in new film Atlas Shrugged - and now she's landed the role, according to trade newspaper Daily Variety. The movie adaptation of Rand's epic tome has been kicking around Hollywood for many years, and, at one point, was set to star Faye Dunaway. The project sets up a busy 12 months for Jolie, whose next movie will be another epic adaptation, Beowulf. She'll also be seen alongside Matt Damon in The Good Shepherd and she'll also star in the adaptation of Mariane Pearl's book about the kidnap and murder of her husband, journalist Daniel Pearl.
OMG you have no idea how excited about this I am! Atlas Shrugged is one of my all-time favorite books (in the top 2) of all time, and if they're gonna go ahead and film it, Angelina Jolie is the absolute perfect choice to play Dagney. I do have some reservations about what is gonna get cut from a 1100+ page book (and in paperback has tiiiiiiiny little printing), cause the movie would need to be 3 hours long at the bare minimum to fit everything in. Hopefully though, if Jolie is as big a fan as she says she is, she'll make sure it gets done right (though I said that about Jon Travolta and Battlefield Earth, another one of my all-time favorite books, and look how that turned out).

Man, with reviews like these, and the innate human inability to look away from horrible, perverse and generally disgusting things, I may just have to go see this movie (although I don't know if I could take the leech-on-the-eyeball stunt. Yikes!)!!
Movie Reviews: 'Jackass: Number Two'
The folks who will flock to see Jackass: Number Two are probably not the kind who will read the reviews of the movie. On the other hand, the folks who have absolutely no intention of seeing it probably are. The problem is that so scenes in the movie are so grossly obscene that most of the critics for "family newspapers" can't even describe them. As Gene Seymour writes in Newsday: "You're dying to hear about the gags involving body hair, fecal matter and horses, aren't you? Oh, look, we're running out of space! Some other time." Jessica Reaves in the Chicago Tribune begins her review by remarking, "Quite honestly, I don't know what to say about Jackass: Number Two." Nathan Lee in the New York Times pretends to approach the movie as if he were an art critic reviewing an obscene modern art exhibition: "At the root of the "Jackass" project is an impulse to deny the superego and approach the universe, with all its hard edges and shark-infested waters, as an enormous, undifferentiated playpen. That, and the impulse to watch a 400-pound woman belly-flop on top of a midget. The Surrealists would have loved these guys, and relished the film's signature image: the application of a leech to the surface of an eyeball." Kyle Smith in the New York Post does give readers a hint of what appears in the movie: "You probably know by this stage of your life whether you'd like to see a man place a sock on something that rhymes with sock and introduce both into a snake's den. But even if you find that funny (hell, I do), you probably don't need to see a beer enema or several vomit scenes, one resulting from a turn in the 'fart mask.'" Roger Moore in the Orlando Sentinel reluctantly acknowledges that he let out a "painful laugh" at some of the set ups, then thought, "I am so ashamed of myself." He adds, "What, exactly, does a movie ratings board have to see to give a studio picture an NC-17 rating? Granted, this is adolescent humor, in the extreme. But watching people defecate on camera should be an automatic." And Wesley Morris in the Boston Globe echoes: "It's a miracle that the MPAA let Number Two off with a mere R."

"Towards the end of the filming of Postal, the five most outspoken critics will be flown into Vancouver and supplied with hotel rooms. As a guest of Uwe Boll they will be given the chance to be an extra/stand-in in Postal and have the opportunity to put on boxing gloves and enter a BOXING RING to fight Uwe Boll. Each critic will have the opportunity to bring down Uwe in a 10-bout match. There will be five matches planned over the last two days of the movie. Certain scenes from these boxing matches will become part of the Postal movie. All five fights will be televised on the Internet and will be covered by international press.

Uwe Boll Knocks Out Critics
Cult German film director Uwe Boll has knocked out some of his harshest critics in the boxing ring, in revenge for their harsh reviews of his movies. The film-maker challenged journalists to a physical contest after they criticized his movie BloodRayne, which stars Sir Ben Kingsley and Kristanna Loken. Five people were selected to go fist-to-fist with Boll in a series of boxing matches, one of which took place in Malaga, Spain, while the others took place in Vancouver, Canada. And Boll proceeded to knock out every one of his opponents. Critic Richard Kyanka of website Something Awful says, "I feel great. I feel like a very angry German man punched me in the head repeatedly. He kept saying it was PR stunt and a joke, but then he comes on just 'murderizing' me. I want to have more kids someday, so I just said, 'I'm not going to stay in here and keep getting punched in the head.'" And Boll's youngest opponent, 17-year-old Chance Mointer says, "I wasn't a big fan of House Of The Dead or Alone In The Dark, but after what he's shown me of Seed, I think it's fantastic." A triumphant Boll says, "See what happens when they take a blow to the head? They like my movies."
Hey, for once I agree with Uwe. It would take a blow to the head for someone to enjoy his movies!

Anna Nicole Weds in the Bahamas
Anna Nicole Smith has wed her longtime attorney Howard K. Stern in a wedding in Nassau, the Bahamas, according to US reports. Stern, who revealed he was the true father of the actress/model's baby girl Dannilynn on CNN show Larry King Live earlier this week, exchanged vows with Smith on a catamaran anchored off Blackbeard's Cay in Nassau yesterday morning, according to America's Star magazine. The wedding comes just 18 days after the death of Anna's son Daniel Smith, 20, who passed away in his mother's hospital room three days after his baby sister was born on September 7. An eyewitness to the nuptials tells the Star, "There was heavy security around the yacht, plus extra speedboats to deliver more supplies as needed from the island to the catamaran." The source adds, "Anna was wearing a pink bikini" for a post-wedding swim party. On Tuesday, Stern told CNN anchor Larry King he was the father of Smith's baby girl, disputing claims by the actress' ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead that the child was his. He went on to tell King via satellite from the Bahamas that he and Smith were planning to wed: "I've loved her for quite some time and hopefully the feeling's mutual. At some point, we will (get married)." If the reports are true, this will be Smith's third marriage. Her first husband was tragic Daniel's father Billy Wayne Smith and she wed 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall in 1994. He died in 1995.

Dustin Diamond Sex Tape
From "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star"
Former teen TV star Dustin Diamond is reportedly the star of a candid new sex tape in which he romps with two women.
The 29-year-old, who played geek Screech Powers in "Saved By the Bell," engages in a number of sexual acts with the women in the 40-minute tape.
Agent David Hans Schmidt has acquired the rights and is currently seeking a distributor for "Saved By the Smell."
Schmidt tells the New York Daily News, "Just when you think you have seen everything in this business, mankind has raised the bar another notch. Or lowered it."
Diamond's manager Roger Paul hopes the tape will raise his client's profile and help resurrect the acting career that collapsed when "Saved By the Bell" ended in 1997.
He says, "I haven't seen the tape. I've heard rumors. Dustin has been trying to escape the Screech typecast. So this may help me get more bookings."
Diamond will welcome any royalties he gets from the tape -- in June he launched a campaign to save his home from foreclosure, by selling autographed T-shirts on the Internet.

Budget Soars for 'Evan Almighty'
Costs have skyrocketed for Universal's upcoming Evan Almighty, starring Steve Carell, with final expenditures likely to exceed at least $175 million -- $250 million, including marketing -- the Los Angeles Times reported today (Monday). Such a budget would make it the most expensive comedy in history, the newspaper observed. According to the Times, studio executives have acknowledged that the Bruce Almighty sequel has exceeded original budget estimates but are confident it will eventually be profitable. Describing the film as a "spectacle fantasy and also a comedy," Universal Chairman Marc Shmuger told the newspaper that it is "a great bet." The newspaper quoted unnamed sources as blaming the overruns on the studio's desire to release the film during the holiday season in December, thereby cutting preparation time and forcing the crew to shoot scenes in Virginia during a rainy period. (Bad weather reportedly forced an 11-day production delay.) Producers also encountered delays having to film hundreds of animals (it's a kind of Noah's arc tale), with predators like lions and tigers having to be separated from monkeys and giraffes.
I hope this movie does get finished and released, it sounds pretty funny. Steve Carrell is great, but it is a stretch to call this a sequel to Bruce Almighty just by keeping Morgan Freeman as God and nothing else. Should still be good though!

Saw III poster made with REAL BLOOD
According to Variety, a vial of blood from SAW star Tobin Bell (Jigsaw) was used to make posters for SAW III.
"We decided to do a poster and he's wearing a red cloak. I was talking to the printer and asked what we could do to get the deepest blood red. I asked if it would be possible to use actual blood. There was silence. He said, 'We could try, but are you serious?' I said I was dead serious," Lionsgate marketing's Tim Palen said.
"He said, 'That's really weird,'" Palen recalled. But Bell agreed, and a trip to the doctor's office was scheduled.
The posters from the first printing, about 1,000 in all, will be sold for $20, minus the first print, which will be auctioned off. All proceeds from the auction and sales will go to the Red Cross.
It's nice that all the proceeds are going to charity at least. That's one hell of a marketing ploy though!

Streisand Delivers Foul-Mouthed Response to Heckler
Barbra Streisand was forced to shout down a heckler at her celebrity-packed New York City gig on Monday night, when the man took exception to her onstage digs at President George W. Bush. The 64-year-old is a staunch Democrat and is still appalled that Bush was elected to the most powerful position in the world, despite doubts over the crucial result in Florida in 2000. And Streisand's gigs on her current US tour feature a political satire sketch where an actor playing the Republican president reels off lines including, "I'm concerned about the national debt, so I'm selling Canada," and, "If I cared about the polls I would have run for president of Poland." But at Monday's Madison Square Garden gig, some members of the 20,000 audience wanted Streisand to leave politics aside and just sing her songs. The 64-year-old first implored with the hecklers, "Come on, be polite!" But one heckler then shouted, "What is this? A fundraiser?" An irritated Streisand reportedly immediately retorted, to applause, "Why don't you shut the f**k up! If you can't take a joke, why don't you leave and get your money back." The man then walked out of the concert, which was attended by stars including Oprah Winfrey.
I think it's funny how people don't seem to think artists should be able to speak their minds about certain things. I mean, come on, it's their fucking job! The whole point of being an artist is expressing yourself about issues, whether in your own personal life or the world at large. First the Dixie Chicks, then some people were pissed off at Madonna for her politically-charged Reinvention Tour, and now Streisand. You can't just like the product but hate the creator, they're a package.

McMahon Surprises O'Donnell on 'The View'
Nip/Tuck star Julian McMahon shocked The View co-host Rosie O'Donnell this morning by appearing on the US chat show with the zebra skin rug the two shot a love scene on and preceded to recreate the scene. O'Donnell made a guest appearance on Nip/Tuck when it was screened last Tuesday, and appeared as a lottery winner who paid McMahon's character to have sex with her for $100,000. McMahon unfurled the rug and jumped on top of O'Donnell after she sprawled out on the carpet, to the delight of the studio audience. Co-host Joy Behar also had a turn on the rug with McMahon after musing that she was missing out on all the fun. O'Donnell's character Dawn Budge was such a hit on the show producers are considering giving her her own spin-off show. She will appear again on the plastic surgery drama for another guest appearance in Tuesday's episode.

Media reports have suggested that Knight was forced out of the closet after details of a fight between co-stars Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey became public. According to the National Enquirer, the two got into a fight while Filming the show last week and Washington allegedly yelled to Dempsey, "I'm not your little ***got like (name deleted)." The publication said they withheld printing the actual name of the co-star Washington mentioned "because of the extreme nature of the slur."
If Isaiah Washington really did say something like that, he just lost a HUGE amount of respect. Then again, the source is the National Enquirer, so I'm not putting too much stock into it.

Osment Pleads No Contest to Drunk Driving Charges
The Sixth Sense star Haley Joel Osment has pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges stemming from a car crash in July. The actor pleaded no contest to one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of possession of marijuana, according to news website Tmz.com. Osment was sentenced to three years probation, 60 hours of alcohol rehab and three months of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. He was fined $1,500. The actor almost lost his life when his 1995 Saturn smashed into a brick pillar and flipped onto its roof in a suburb of Los Angeles on July 20. He was treated for a broken rib and an injury to his shoulder in a nearby hospital.

How did Isiah W. know he was gay? Obvious this is some sideway attempt to get free attention for the show. Like the man says who cares and why is he coming clean on something like this, unless he feels guilty about being gay.
As an actor you have to weigh the odds whether coming out will be a positive or negative for your carreer. Hence Lance Bass who waited to come out because how many horny innocent girls will wet to songs song by a gay man.:headscratch: :shakehead:
Even Rock Hudson waited so long to come out because his image of a lady's man was more important than so called gay pride. Whether he's a sell out would anyone pay his rent for him if hollywood black balled him?

O'Toole Smuggled Vodka Into Oscars
Legendary hell-raiser Peter O'Toole nearly missed out on picking up his Honorary Oscar in 2003 after he threatened to leave the ceremony because of the award show's strict no-alcohol rules. It was only after a bottle of vodka was smuggled in to appease the Lawrence Of Arabia star, that he decided to stay and collect the award. He says, "I enjoyed it (The Oscars.) The only thing that wasn't enjoyable was in the green room. I said, 'Can I have a drink?' 'We have lemon juice, apple juice, still or sparkling.' I said, 'No, I want a drink. No drink?' I said, 'All right, I'm f**king off. I'll be back.' A man with earphones said, 'No! No!' Eventually this vodka was smuggled in."
No wonder they have such big parties afterward. I never knew they had a no-alkie policy.

God I love the Simpsons!
From IMDB.com
Will GOP Have a Cow Over 'Simpsons' Episode?
An episode of Fox's The Simpsons scheduled to air two days before next month's midterm elections has stirred up a political flap. As reported by the online Radar magazine, the episode, titled "The Day the Earth Was Stupid," a spoof of The War of the Worlds, shows an invasion of the Simpsons' home town of Springfield, a prelude to an occupation of the entire planet. "Well, the Earthlings continue to resent our presence," one of the aliens says. "You said we'd be greeted as liberators!" The other replies, "We still have the people's hearts and minds." At which point, he holds up a heart and brain. Al Jean, the show's executive producer, told Radar that Fox raised no objection to the episode. Although Rupert Murdoch, the network's owner, is regarded as a conservative and a supporter of America's policies in Iraq -- his News Corp also owns the conservative-leaning Fox News Network -- he has maintained a hands-off policy towards The Simpsons, arguably the most profitable program the network has ever aired. "I'd like to take credit for being adventuresome," said Jean, "but I think we're expressing a viewpoint 69 percent of the country agrees with."
It's a good thing the suits realize what a cash cow they have in The Simpsons. That hearts and minds joke is pretty good.

Which makes Rupert Murdoch the biggest hypocrite in the world. He pays people like Bill O'Reilly to slam their fist and yell from the bully pulpit and then presents the most lurid, left-leaning or otherwise non-conservative viewpoint which he created Fox News to rail against. Frankly, I'd just like the hear the words "I'm all about the money when it comes to Fox Broadcasting Corp., morals be damned" come out of his mouth. I'd cut him a lot of slack if he'd just say that morality applies except when it comes to running an entertainment network.

New "Kubrick Film" To Be Made
The son-in-law of Stanley Kubrick is shepherding a film treatment titled Lunatic at Large to the screen after he discovered it among Kubrik's storage trunks, the New York Times reported today (Tuesday). According to the newspaper, Kubrick had commissioned the treatment from noir pulp novelist Jim Thompson in the 1950s, but it had become lost until the son-in-law, Philip Hobbs, discovered it after Kubrick's death in 1999. Hobbs told the Times, "I knew what it was right away, because I remember Stanley talking about 'Lunatic.' He was always saying he wished he knew where it was, because it was such a great idea." Veteran producer Edward R. Pressman (Phantom of the Paradise, Conan the Barbarian, Wall Street, The Crow) and London media company Finch & Partners are expected to announce today that the film will be directed by British TV director Chris Palmer from a finished script by Stephen R. Clarke.

Marketing Dilemma: How To Promote a Film Called 'F***'?
How can a studio promote and market a film whose title is the F word? That is the challenge facing ThinkFilm, which is releasing F**k the movie in New York and Los Angeles on Nov. 10 before expanding it. Bloomberg News quoted ThinkFilm's marketing chief, Mark Urman, as describing his quandary this way: "Newspapers, unless they are alternative weeklies, cannot print the word ... and movie theaters cannot put the title on a marquee." Another complication facing the company -- the title of the movie would also force the MPAA ratings board to issue an NC-17 rating; ThinkFilm has therefore decided to release it unrated. However, Mark Cuban's Landmark Theatre Corp. has reportedly agreed to exhibit it in 57 theaters in 23 markets.

Lost in Translation
Efforts by overseas film distributors to cut costs by outsourcing subtitle translations to such countries as India and Malaysia have resulted in creating dialog that makes little sense to local audiences, according to today's (Monday) London Times. The newspaper observed that translators with little understanding of the nuances of English are taking the place of British subtitlers, many with long careers in the business. Kenn Nakata Steffenson, who translates English films into Danish and Japanese films into English, cited one film in which the line "Jim is a Vietnam vet" became "Jim is veterinarian from Vietnam" in the farmed-out Danish subtitles. In another film, the words "flying into an asteroid field" became "flying into a steroid field." In yet another, "She died in a freak rugby accident" became "She died in a rugby match for people with deformities." In My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Uma Thurman's line, "We have a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment" was translated into Taiwanese as "We hold the highest standards for sexual harassment." The Times said that Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro was so upset with the English subtitles for his 2001 film The Devil's Backbone that he himself worked on the subtitles for last year's award-winning Pan's Labyrinth.
It's total crap that studios don't care enough to actually have their translations done correctly by qualified people, and yet, the results are so completely hilarious. I'd like to see one of those translated movies all the way through just to see the mistakes.

Jail doesn't work that way. It's only long timers in state prisons that have to worry about those kind of people..Lifers.
Likely, she'll be in a cell by herself or with one-five other people and the other inmates will stay out of her way or listen to her stories of partying and try to suck up to her to become a "friend".
Still, it's amusing.
DarkJedi

As far as what Paris has to say, she’s full of shit. When my license was suspended, I had probation for a year and if I got ANY citation on anything, I would have been serving another 90 days in jail.
The Century Detention Center may be less glamorous then being free but it’s been a place where female movie stars go to before. Darryl Hannah and Michelle Rodriguez served there.
She will either have a cell by herself or a cell with 2-5 other female inmates. Since she is going to a wing of the detention center set aside for traffic violations, the other inmates will be people whom are in there for the same reasoning..In those kind of cells, the people leave each other alone.
Hell, if anything, Paris will be right at home and continue to be the “center” of attention with her other inmates (if she has other inmates). She’ll have plenty of party stories to pass the time with.
The only thing which will affect her greatly is the “control” factor which is what jail is all about.
It’s why Joe Francis is having hell right now in Florida even if he is lucky enough to be in a solitary cell. First day there, Joe tried bribing a guard for a bottle of water.
Paris will not like being dictated to on when to go to bed, when to wake up..and what and when she’s eating her three courses a day.
It’s the control factor which will bother her.
She’ll probably deal with it and come out saying “Jail isn’t that bad” because she’s not experiencing the true JAIL experience.

I have officially lost any respect for George Lucas. What a hypocrite (or complete dumbass)!
'Spider-Man 3' Is "Silly," Says Lucas
George Lucas has joined the major newspaper critics in their negative appraisal of Spider-Man 3. In an interview with FoxNews.com's Roger Friedman, Lucas said, "It's a silly movie. ... There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?" Over the weekend, Spider-Man 3 surged ahead of Lucas's Star Wars' episode Revenge of the Sith to take the record for the biggest weekend box-office record. Star Wars was also criticized as being "silly," Lucas noted. "But it wasn't." He also disclosed that he is working on at least two other Star Wars movies for television. "But they won't have members of the Skywalker family as characters. They will be other people of that milieu."
"Star Wars was also criticized as being "silly," Lucas noted. "But it wasn't."
"But it wasn't?" What the hell kind of defense is that (I'm thinking of the prequels here)? "But it wasn't." You shouldn't go around spouting off a critique of a film when you can't even come up with a decent defense of your own film against the exact same critique other than "But it wasn't." What a douche.

Hilton Allowed To Drive Again
Paris Hilton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0385296/) is permitted to drive again - despite receiving a sentence for jail time last Friday for violating her probation by driving with a suspended license. The hotel heiress will begin a 45-day sentence next month but, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles, she's free to get behind the wheel of a car in the meantime. Hilton's license was suspended in November after a drink-driving arrest, but the organization claims it was reinstated at the end of March. Veteran Dui attorney Lawrence Taylor says, "If her license was reinstated, she's perfectly okay to drive despite her probation violation. There's no problem with that."

Jackson Warned to Drop Legal Action to Save Embarrassment
Michael Jackson has been warned not to stand in the way of a planned charity auction of his belongings, because it could cause the singer more embarrassment than it's worth.
The pop star and his family have threatened legal action against bosses at Universal Express, who are planning to hold the Jackson Family Memorabilia Auction later this month in Las Vegas. Among the items going under the hammer are a number of costumes from him and his siblings' Jackson 5 days.
The Jacksons are contesting ownership of a number of lots in the auction, which company chairman Richard Altomare claims to have purchased from the pop superstar's former business partner Henry Vacaro, who was awarded the memorabilia as part of a bankruptcy case against Michael.
But Altomare has called upon the Jackson family to reconsider their pending lawsuit, because Universal Express have held back a number of items, including portraits of naked boys and sex toys, which could prove highly embarrassing to the star.
Altomare tells PageSix, "There are a couple of paintings Jackson made of children, of boys -- naked. And there are some of his whitening creams, some sex aids... some of the old records in his sealed (sexual molestation) court case.
"This is stuff we have kept from the auction out of respect to Mr. Jackson. The guy has troubles. We all have skeletons in the closet and, if Michael hadn't put up a fuss, I might have quietly, discreetly, just given it to him.
"I'm a gentleman... But if he pisses me off, I may end up auctioning them."
The Jackson family are due in court for a closed hearing in Las Vegas tomorrow, where Altomare will argue he is the rightful owner of the collection, which is estimated to sell for more than $100 million.
Jackson's spokesman, William Marshall, has refused to comment.

Sheesh, you want weird, I almost agree with Rosie O'Donnel on something.
Rosie O'Donnell has fought her last fight at "The View." ABC said Friday she asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract at the daytime chatfest following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday. She was due to leave in mid-June.
It ended a colorful eight-month tenure for O'Donnell that lifted the show's ratings but no doubt caused heartburn for show creator Barbara Walters. O'Donnell feuded with Donald Trump and frequently had snippy exchanges with the more conservative Hasselbeck.
O'Donnell said last month she would be leaving because she could not agree to a new contract with ABC executives.
"Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,'" Walters said. "I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
In a statement, O'Donnell said that "it's been an amazing year and I love all three women."
No one was feeling the love on Wednesday, when the argument with Hasselbeck began over O'Donnell's statement last week about the war: "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"
Talk show critics accused O'Donnell of calling U.S. troops terrorists. She called Hasselbeck "cowardly" for not saying anything in response to the critics.
Maybe the world really is coming to an end...

Parton Won't Play 'American Idol' Judge
Country queen Dolly Parton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000573/) has turned down the chance to join the judges on American Idol (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319931/) - because she simply can't be mean to wannabes. The Jolene singer will take part in a tribute to her music in the next season of the talent show, but she'll only help singers master her hits backstage. She says, "I won't be a judge. I couldn't do that. I can't tell people they aren't doing a good job even if they ask me. To tell someone if they're good or bad, or if they suck isn't me."
I'm not at all a fan of country music. I can definately give her respect for turning down American Idol. Way to go, Ms. Parton.

Bono Expects Spider-Man Musical To Set New Standards
U2 rocker Bono is confident the Spider-Man musical he is currently working on will dazzle audiences, because it will be "something the likes of which no-one has seen or heard". The singer is creating the Spider-Man production with his band mate The Edge and director Julie Taymor, whose new film Across The Universe he has a cameo in. The U2 stars and Taymor are currently hunting for a New York theatre big enough to house their project, and Bono is already warning audiences to expect the unexpected. He says, "If we pull off what we're trying, it will be something the likes of which no-one has seen or heard. It should be a hallucinogenic experience for theatergoers. You have the visual energy she (Taymor) brings. The myth of the arachnid and the elasticity of these characters - you can turn theatre upside down." And Bono and The Edge plan to bring a wide range of music to the production. Bono adds, "We've got some punk rock in there and some beautiful opera."
I'm leery about this. I mean, Julie Taymor is an awesome director (go watch Across the Universe), and Bono and the Edge can write great music, but I'm wondering how all of this is going to fit together in a Spider-Man musical.

Spears Hits Another Car
Britney Spears was involved in another fender bender as she arrived at a Hollywood party over the weekend. The clumsy singer, who still faces a hit-and-run charge for leaving the scene of a parking lot prang in August without addressing the owner of a vehicle she hit, reversed into a paparazzi's car while trying to park on Saturday night. Learning from her last accident, red-faced Spears tracked down the owner of the car she bumped, stating, "I'm stupid, I'm sorry... I'm a horrible driver." She then joked, "Are you going to sue me or something?" but the forgiving snapper just shrugged off the incident and told Spears, who was wearing sunglasses on a dreary Los Angeles night, "not to worry."
What a complete basket case. It's at a point where I just feel nothing left for her but pity.
I really do feel sorry for her. To go from where she was just a few short years ago,
to where she is now, is mind-boggling. I also think it's refective of her psychological
state of mind ever since her parents divorce, and her break up with Justin, which
ironically occurred soon after finally "giving it up" to him. Remember she used to be
so chaste? Now she wants to build her career to being nothing more than a common
street walker. Oh yeah. She sure is maturing as an artist going in THAT direction.

The Thriller hitmaker - who has undergone multiple cosmetic surgeries on his face in the past - was recently photographed in a Los Angeles bookstore wearing numerous bandages around his mouth. But sources tell Finditt.com the singer's son, Prince Michael II, caused the injury: "He was whacked in the face accidentally by his younger son Prince Michael II while playing around and part of Jackson's upper lip collapsed. Milo and Hayden Dating
They looked mighty cozy at an Emmys party in September, but later denied being in a realtionship. Now, “Heroes” stars Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia finally seem to be a real item. And, regardless of the fact that Ventimiglia is technically old enough to be Panettiere’s dad (he’s 30, she’s only 18), Panettiere’s family has given Ventimiglia the thumbs up.
“Hayden’s mom adores Milo. She thinks he’s so cute,” a family friend told People. "She tells her friends that he's her boyfriend. She's very proud.”
The mag reports that during a December trip to New York City, Ventimiglia hung out with the entire Panettiere family. “He's even met her grandparents. He fits in perfectly with the family.” Panettiere’s rep doesn’t comment on her client’s personal life.
I would say "Go Milo!" but the age difference is just a tad creepy, I don't care how cute he is. It's nice that the family is so accepting of it though.

Nicholson Warned Ledger About Joker Role
http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/12/09/38s.jpg Jack Nicholson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000197/) has hinted he warned tragic Heath Ledger (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005132/) against taking on the role of The Joker in the new Batman film. Ledger, 28 - who was declared dead at 3:30pm at his Manhattan apartment on Tuesday - publicly declared himself exhausted and sleep deprived in November following the grueling shoot for The Dark Knight (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/). He also revealed in an interview with the New York Times he'd resorted to taking sleeping pills - an overdose of which is believed to be the cause of his death - in a desperate bid to catch up on rest. And Nicholson, who famously portrayed the menacing Joker in Tim Burton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000318/)'s 1989 movie Batman (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096895/), implied to the waiting crowd outside plush London restaurant The Wolesley on Tuesday night he spoke to Ledger about his role in The Dark Knight - and warned him about the pitfalls of taking on such a demanding challenge. When asked by the London crowds for his reaction to Ledger's untimely demise, a defeated Nicholson simply replied, "I told him so." Batman Begins (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0372784/) prequel The Dark Knight is due to be released in July.
Is it me or does Jack Nicholson come accross as an arrogant @$$h0le?
Jakester
01-24-2008, 04:48 AM
It was amusing when he pretended to be upset that someone else got the role. This quote definitely seems arrogant, but who knows what's running through Jack's mind. Maybe he was aware of how the character would be portrayed and maybe he was aware how deep Ledger would get sucked in, so maybe he did say, "I told him so," but who knows.
I just find myself saying "Whatever." to anything anyone says.
fastcar
01-24-2008, 05:00 AM
Maybe it was taken out of context from a bigger part of the interview with Nicholson. Although, he did seem furious that he wasn't asked to reprise the role.
I think Adam West had more grounds to be pissed at Burton than Nicholson had with Nolon. This was a reboot of the franchise destroyed by Schumacher and even if Nicholson was given the chance to reprise the Joker it would be hard to justify Nicholson's character choices from 1990 mixed with the characters that Nolon created in 2005.

Britney's become a train wreck.
Natalie Portman is super hot, and she can strike some sexy poses for the camera, but overall, I don't think she knows how to "be" sexy. I didn't think she was particulary "sexy" in her stripper scene in Closer, and her nude scene is "Hotel Chevalier" wasn't what I'd term sexy or steamy at all. SJP will be 43 tomorrow in fact. At what point did 43 become old? Apparently Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood missed that memo, too, because all three of those bastards are still pumping out action flims north of 60. Well, Eastwood isn't confirmed for Dirty Harry, but Mania's verdict is that it's likely.
In summary, the years may not have been as kind to SJP as they have to her peers, but she's by no means an ugly woman. Maybe not the most attractive, but there are still plenty of guys who'd hit that given a chance.

"Unsexiest" Woman Holds Mirror Up To Judges
Posted March 24, 2008 | 04:42 PM (EST)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Am I really the unsexiest woman in the world?"
That's the rhetorical question actress Sarah Jessica Parker posed to Grazia (which actually bills itself as Britain's "first glossy magazine"). She was responding to the title of "Unsexiest Woman Alive" bestowed upon her by a poll of the readers of another magazine, Maxim.
Buzz up! on Yahoo! In questioning their choice, Ms. Parker fails to notice that she's acquiescing to the notion that there really is an unsexiest woman in the world. But she deserves credit for bravely admitting that it caused her significant pain, enhanced, in turn, by her husband's anger.
"Do I fit some ideals and standards of some men writing in a men's magazine?" she asked. "Maybe not." (Plaudits also for taking the trouble to Q & A herself, thus lightening the interviewer's work load.)
Again, Ms. Parker is on the right track, but only halfway there. She herself illustrated the point in the 1991 film LA Story. Playing SanDeE*, a dizzy, flirtatious young woman, she beguiles the middle-aged Steve Martin. (And, in the process, makes it impossible for girls to ever unselfconsciously twirl again.)
By parodying it in its most juvenile and blatant form to a T, Ms. Parker draped herself with the mantle of sexiness and the rest was history. It's indicative of her intelligence that her career was built on irony.
Maxim's readers likely weren't singling her out for a lack of sexiness, which no red-blooded man can dispute at this point. Arguably, it's her long (horse) face to which they object.
In fact, Ms. Parker is the latest in a long line of formidable women stretching from Cleopatra to Bette Davis to Madonna. Though lacking the symmetry of a classic beauty, they bent men -- and the world -- to their whims, whether by disposition, determination, or talent.
The case can be made that Maxim's readers object to having a sex symbol chosen for them on the basis of her success in a "women's" TV series. Also, there's no disputing that La Parker is ubiquitous -- besides TV, from billboards to magazine ads to commercials -- not to mention, much the richer for it.
But, as is too often the case with a poll, it reveals more about the voters than the subject. First, Maxim readers seem oblivious to the extent to which their tastes in women have been shaped by today's surgically enhanced models and actresses. Talk about an image being forced down their throats.
Second, conferring a title as vicious as unsexiest woman alive on anyone reflects a poverty of spirit that, in itself, cancels out a Maxim reader's qualifications to choose the winner of any poll.
Except for maybe which male mixed-martial-art star they'd most like to be in the ring with alone and naked.

And the British star has no intention to hook up with Lohan's former party pal Paris Hilton either. He says, "I met Lindsay last summer and she talked about herself a lot. She said she was going to win an Oscar before she turns 25. I just kept thinking, 'But you can't act'. I haven't met Paris and don't want to either. She and Lindsay are the type of girls you need to stay away from."
I think that would've been hilarious if he had actually said that to Lohan instead of just thinking it. I know I would have.

I don't know how many people would be interested in this, but this actually sounds kinda cool. Apparently there's already a cast album in stores, I'll hafta check it out.

Well, there is the musical "The Great American Trailer Park Musical", with songs like "This Side of the Tracks", "Flushed Down the Pipes", "Road Kill", and "That's Why I Love My Man". I've heard some of it, it's actually pretty funny.

I am now convinced that anyone who wants to live should not come within 100 miles of Chris Nolan.

Why? Guy Pearce is still around. So is Robin Williams.
Now...if he wrote a Poltergeist follow-up, then I'd have some concerns.

Yeah, but Guy Pearce only remembers 15 minutes at a time (unfortunately, it's the 15 minutes when he had an A-list career... sadly, no one else does) and Robin Williams and Al Pacino's careers both died after appearing in a kickass Nolan movie.

You'd think they might have mentioned this fact a little sooner considering Batman was created just shy of 70 years ago. Is he going to sue ABC for that God awful television series we had to endure in the 60's? (I'm actually for that) What about DC Comics, Tim Burton and Joel Shumaker? I bet you could make a case for mental anguish against Batman Returns, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin if nothing else.
:headscratch:
Actually, this is only funny if it gets thrown out of the courts.

Like I'm shocked.
From MSNBC.com
Tom Cruise laughable in ‘Valkyrie’
MGM’s marketing team is working hard to convince audiences that their oft-delayed Tom Cruise vehicle “Valkyrie” is a thriller and not the chatfest “Lions for Lambs” was. But those who've gotten an early glimpse say not only is the film nowhere near as exciting as a thriller, but Cruise’s performance elicits uncomfortable and inappropriate laughs.
Among them: A scene where Cruise’s character, Claus Von Stauffenberg, is forced to give the infamous “Heil Hitler” salute. “It’s an unsettling scene but you almost start to laugh," the source says. "His character is resisting it but you never forget it’s Tom Cruise saying ‘Heil Hitler.’ It’s funny and shocking at the same time.”
Sources also described a scene where Cruise’s character Claus Von Stauffenberg removes a false eye. “It was disgusting,” said one person who saw the film. “It was like watching someone pluck their contacts out.”
“The film just isn’t a thriller at all” said one “Valkyrie” viewer. “It’s a bunch of white guys in Nazi uniforms. It’s too bad. And Tom doesn’t speak with a German accent — though they did add a voiceover of him speaking German to the beginning of the film. Still, it’s as if he could say ‘I complete you’ at any time. This is not his Oscar moment.”

Hugh Jackman to host Oscars (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/124292.html)
While I wouldn't mind looking at him for 3 hours, I'd prefer to have Jon Stewart or Ellen DeGeneres back. Of course, he is pretty charming, and I'm sure he can do comedy just fine, it just seems a little wonky to me. :headscratch:

You know, a lot of the time, I'm on the celebrities' side when it comes to aggressive paparazzi. But since when is a celebrity so important that something like this has to happen?
From IMDB.com
Spears Decoy Sues Lax Police
A woman used as a decoy for Jamie Lynn Spears at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) last year is suing the building's police department for $2 million (GBP1.3 million) - because they failed to warn her of the danger she would face posing as the star.
The incident took place in September, when Britney Spears' younger sister was due to return to the city after giving birth to her daughter Maddie.
Cops at LAX tried to divert paparazzi from following Jamie Lynn on September 11 by flanking impromptu doppelganger Adessa Eskeridge and escorting her to baggage claim.
Eskeridge, who was flying on the same plane as Spears, claims authorities told her, "You're going to help us with something" as she disembarked the aircraft.
She filed suit against LAX police last month - and now it has emerged Eskeridge alleges she "was not given any details as to the nature of the task or the potential danger involved. She simply followed the instructions of the police as most good citizens would do."
Legal papers filed by Eskeridge's attorney R.J. Molligan allege the police "did not want to subject Ms. Spears to the pushing, shoving, humiliation and possible physical injury that come with the paparazzi, but instead decided that Ms. Eskeridge was not important enough to give the same protections to."
The documents continue, "(Eskeridge was) never informed that upon deplaning, she would be mobbed by the paparazzi, that she would be in fear of her well-being, that her picture would be taken and that video of her would be all over the internet."
Eskeridge is seeking a "fair and reasonable settlement" for what her attorney calls a "false arrest", because of the "great humiliation" she suffered, and continues to suffer, having "her identity made synonymous with 'fake Jamie Lynn Spears - a nobody".
At the time of the incident, a spokesman for the LAX Police Department declared an internal investigation was being held because the force had no such policy to provide a decoy for celebrities.
