Alright. Stop chuckling like silly 8 year olds in the back of the room.

It's a fair question.

I was thinking about what someone said to me a long time ago,
saying that you can tell a lot about a person by how they eat.

Not what they eat, but how.

Generally, I've found there to be two camps of eating styles:

A. With different kinds of food crammed together on a plate and fork,
for the sake of mingling the tastes of whatever food it is. Example,
you'd fork a bite of filet mignon steak, making sure you included a
sample of garlic mashed potatoes and gravy on the same fork before
taking a bite.

B. With different foods set up on the plate, ensuring none of each
food group ever touches each other. Then, eating each food group
one at a time, never mixing them at all. Ever. Example, on your plate
you have two slices of meatloaf, a portion of broccoli, and mashed
sweet potatoes. You first eat the broccoli, then the potatoes, THEN
the meatloaf. But never together in any fashion at all.

So I was wondering- which do you find yourself doing?

After answering the poll, please share why.

To get the joke outta the way, that is none of your fucking business. :D

Seriously, I can not throw a vote in cause i do both. A little turkey and some mash potatoes in one lovely bite? I'm game. Beer-Battered Ham and some egg noodles too? sure why not. The KFC everything in one damn bowl? fuck no.

But i do enjoy eating things seperately or together.

It is all going to the same place anyway. I voted A.

My sister is B. It frustrates me to watch her eat.

Oh. OH! Masticate...

I eat one thing at a time but I'm not afraid to let them touch while on my plate.

I tend to mix odd things together anyway (in my food and in my relationships) so if stuff gets mixed on my plate, that's cool with me.

I vote B, but that's not exactly it. Each bite contains only one type of food. And my mouth is empty before I take another bite. But I change the type of food for each bite. Although sometimes I eat vegetables first because that's what I like the least.

And, I don't like that each type of food touches each other too much. :D

I tend to go with the A. style of grubbing. Cook them seperately but when it comes down to putting in a plate or bowl, I like mixing the different flavors.

I'll pick letter 'C', Pat.

Sometimes I'll take a bite of one food and just eat it by itself. Other times I'll take a bite of something and then take a forkful of something else and put it in my mouth together.

And here you thought I was going to make a masturbation joke, didn't you?

:dunno:

I tend to place food on my plate so it doesn't touch, and I don't mix forkfulls, unless it's meatloaf and mashed potatoes, but I don't eat one thing entirely before moving on to the next. I did that when I was 5. I do, however, eat all my veggies first because they get cold fastest.

I'm with group A. It's all going the same damn place anyway.

My wife is often for the total seperation of her food. It's still a running inside joke for us. LL Cool J's character in Toys has our Line:

"I can't even eat. The food keeps touching. I like military plates, I'm a military man, I want a military meal. I want my string beans to be quarantined! I like a little fortress around my mashed potatoes so the meatloaf doesn't invade my mashed potatoes and cause mixing in my plate! I HATE IT when food touches! I'm a military man, you understand that? And don't let your food touch either, please?"

I'm all about group A. I tend to put everything in one big bowl. The only thing I absolutely must eat alone is steak. Nothing mixes with my rib eye.

Depends on the meal. If potatoes, rice, or couscous is involved, I often combine them with meat and veggies. (My son's favorite family recipe is "chicken stuff," a casserole with chicken, rice, and peas.)

When I think about eating fast food, I always eat the french fries first, then the burger/sandwich. Mainly because they taste best hot, and I'm competing with Jr. for the good ones.

At Mickey Ds I like to put fries on my burger. At burger King I like getting a Wopper, no onions, and heavy mayo. I'll also order a small order of onion rings and put a couple on my burger. I enjoy it.

I have a tendency to separate my favourite foods and eat them separately and the foods I'm not so fond of I combine into one sort of mash in order to make it taste better. Except for rice...I combine that with EVERYTHING...lol

I am reminded of 4th grade where I was in a gross out contest. I put my cholcolate doughnut and some chips on my balogna and cheese sandwich and I soaked the bread with my hawian punch.

Fairly tasty as I recall. Though I was only 8.

One of my favorites is to lay my scrambled eggs on top of my pancakes, shake on a bunch of tabasco, then pour syrup over the top. The sweet and hot is just to die for.

I usually tend to follow the LL Cool J/Toys school of thought.

I can't even eat. And don't let your food touch either, please?

Then I tend to eat each item at a time, starting with the stuff I like the least, working my way to the food I like the best.

The one time I mix EVERYTHING on my plate is if I get a Garbage Plate from Nick Tahou's in Rochester, NY.

What is a Garbage Plate?

http://www.geocities.com/garbageplates/before.jpg

The original Garbage Plate was created at Nick Tahou's in Rochester, NY.

A typical plate (see above) comes with two items piled on a plate, such as home fries, macaroni salad, beans, or french fries. Then the meat of choice, such as cheeseburgers, hamburgers, or hot dogs, are placed on top (bread is usually served on the side).

Optional onions, mustard, hot sauce (the hamburger-based kind), and occasionally relish are piled on top.

At Nick's, if you order a cheeseburger plate, you'll automatically get home fries and mac salad with everything on it (the best options, IMHO). There are also many different ways to eat a plate. It can be eaten like a normal meal, but my preferred way of eating plates is to cut up the cheeseburgers, add tons of ketchup and whatever red hot sauce is available, and mix everything together so that it truly looks like a garbage plate. The bread is used to scoop up the remainder of the plate, whatever that is (chemical analysis still needs to be done on it).

All I can say is that at 4AM after a night of bar-hopping, nothing goes down better than one of those...YUMMY!

It's a hometown legend here man. I used to hang out there as a teenager. Never did like the garbage plate. Not fond of mayo on my macaroni and all.

Kaeos? I was thinking about the LL Cool J quote from Toys when I typing
this out! Great minds- and all that. :smirk:

I LOVE putting slices of american or swiss cheese in between the pancakes
as soon as they're hot off the griddle so they can melt, then dollop with
butter and drown in lite sypup (as if the word lite really makes a difference
in my eating. )

Also, I love dipping my french fries into my vanilla shake. I really don't know
why, but they go SO good together.

And when I go to the Outback restaurant, I always order the cheesy/onion
walkabout soup, and use it as a dip for everything else there - chicken,
steak, black bread, veggies. It ROCKS. :)

Interesting you should mention that. For some reason the flavors of a McDonalds Cheeseburger and a McDonalds vanilla shake are like the ultimate man. *burp*

I used to love pouring Spaghettios over popcorn.

One of my favorite dishes now is to mix canned chili, corn and rice togerher as some sort of a stew dish.

Another fav is fried cabbage, rice, hamburger and peppers all fried together.

I know people (my ex is one) who insist on keeping everything on their plate separated, taking great care to complete one item at a time, never letting them touch. I couldn't handle that kind of stress.

Especially on Thansgiving, where I love soaking the stuffing in gravy, mixing in the mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce, with a touch of the turket for added texture. But the skin HAS to remain separate as to keep it crispy and not allow it to get soggy.

I couldn't choose either, as I do both. I can't say I do one more than the other, so I just can't choose A or B. Which way I eat a meal depends on what I'm eating. Some steaks can turn out a bit tough, and mixing in a piece of broccoli and/or mashed potatos can make it easier to chew. If I have rice on a plate, I'll mix that with the other veggie or veggies on the plate, depending on what they are of course.

Oh yeah, I forgot something. Try this sometime, if you haven't already: The next time you're in a 7 Eleven, or AM PM or Arco, or whatever mini-mart, get a 32 oz cup, and fill it with equal amounts of every flavor cold drink they have from their dispensers. Just do it, don't argue with me . . . :jump2:
