View Full Version : Your One Month Mission... (Star Trek)

If you had to spend one month serving on a ship's crew from any of the 5 series, which would you choose?

I gotta go with DS9/Defiant. ... you got Quark's, holo-suites, comfortable uniforms, darts with the Chief and Bashir, the wormhole right there. Sisko may make you play a baseball game in the holosuite, but that beats those detective holo-stories Picard's crew had to pretend to enjoy.

Ugh...and could you imagine a night having drinks with Geordi and Data at Ten Forward?? "What's that Data? Oh, yeah..you want to be human. Cool. ..... oh, Geordi, sorry, I don't mean to interrupt your story about re-aligning the techtronic..uhm whatever you said but I'm kind of beat. Big day today. Gonna go hit the hay."

Original crew was great but I gotta go with comfort and take the era with the most technology. So Archer's ship is definitely out.

Geek Rating of Question: 8 out of 10

No way! It's original crew all the way. TNG lost Tasha Yar. DS9 lost Jadzia Dax. VOY lost, well, they never had anyone worthwhile anyway, except the doctor. ENT lost Trip.

Bottom line, TOS had the best safety record, not counting redshirts. Besides the fact that you could get laid by a green supermodel-looking lady, kill Romulans, and hear McCoy go nuts all in one hour! Let alone a month. It would be a month of boozing whore-chasing ass-kicking fun! :)

I'll choose Galaxy class. I want to lay in bed and look out at the stars. Plus, all the things you brought up, I could do in the holodeck. And, you won't pick up a nasty case of Orion clap that way. Plus, I could pull a "Barclay" and have sex with all my co-workers. I just know I'd be caught naked in the holodeck so many times. But hey, I can go talk about all my "hangups" with Troi! Then...right back to the holodeck. Even the socks come off this time!

A few points.

1) Orion Clap is part of the experience. Where's your sense of adventure? :D

2) Barclay was a sad, twisted man. :eyebrow: He's your inspiration? :D

3) After you do your "business" and end the program, does the "fruit of your labor" plop to the holodeck floor from wherever it was? If so, are you going to clean up after yourself? If not, who's the poor sap that does?

I prefer to "keep it real". :D

DS9/Defiant.

Life on DS9 is unpredictable compared to a starship that spends months on end in the middle of nowhere because DS9 is like a port where different people (or in this case, Aliens) arrive for various reasons and that means new things can happen. Also, with it being so close to a volatile area of the quadrant, there's more action (whether it be the Cardis, the Maquis or the Dominion). Besides, the Defiant kicks ass.

1) Sense of adventure has always been sadly lacking in my life. I'd always be a redshirt, crawling around in Jeffries tubes, cleaning the "clinkers" off the phase inducers.

2) Yes

3) You raise a very interesting question. I'll have to buy Commander Riker a drink in Ten Forward and ask him how he worked that all out....I think we can all assume he gave "Minuet" a workout.

I would have to go with the Kirk-era Enterprise--especially if we are talking about the latter-day voyages immortalized in the films.

lallalallala I'm not listing!

I'm in a negitive mood right now...

TOS - I'd probably be a day player. The end of my month I'd go down on an away mission with Kirk and McCoy and get owned by something bubbly.

TNG - I'd have to put up with the crew... This would probably be my favorite.

DS9 - Again... with the dayplayer getting fragged in the Dominion War

VOY - I'd be lost in the freakin' Delta Quadrent. I wouldn't want that. I'd probably get eaten.

So yeah, I'd have to go with TNG. It's by far the nicest with the best survival rate.

TNG. Comfortable ship, cool holodeck, cute chicks and goes to interesting places.

American did a good job of pointing out the other reasons DS9 would be more interesting. ....and if we're talking about women, let's not forget the Dabo Girls at Quark's. Non-holographic and hot. ...and one of them married Nog, so you gotta figure their standards are pretty low.

Space Tycoon, the only reason I didn't list the Kirk era Movie ship is because the damn thing always seem to operate with skeleton crews. A plot device used in ST II ("we've got a shipload of kids"), ST: III (can't get more skeleton than that) wasn't even in IV. ...and wasn't it a skeleton crew again in V??? Man....this is a whole new thread on it's own. What was up with the lazy "skeleton crew" writing in the Trek movies??

Space Tycoon
02-04-2006, 11:58 AM
TMP is my favourite Star Trek movie. A whole lotsa crewmembers in that one.

Agreed about the overused "skeleton crew" device. Star Trek VI had a full crew complement, though.

And the Excelsior! Mustn't forget the Excelsior. My favourite Starfleet ship, bar none.

Now, aren't you glad I pushed for the return of the smirk emoticon in Mod Hell? :D

Cooper
02-04-2006, 03:29 PM
Yeah, I liked the way the Excelsior looked in ST III. Wanted that class to be the new enterprise in ST IV. But I don't know about serving under Captain Sulu, sitting there in the Captain's chair, ever so gently sipping his cup of tea. ....not that there's anything wrong with that!

I just know I'd end up on an away mission where we'd get trapped in a cave after an avalanche.

ME-well...I guess I'll heat these rocks with my phaser for warmth until they find us.

SULU- No,no...conserve your phaser power. Come over and cuddle.

ME-Wha???

SULU-I said huddle. ....for body warmth. Come on.

ME- well....... uhm....aye-aye, sir.

SULU- That's it. ......closer. .......closer. ......closer still. oh my.

ME-Is that your phaser, sir?

SULU- And it's set for stun.

ME-OK! Heating rocks! Plenty of phaser of power!

I'd pick DS9/Defiant. American stated the reasons quite well, and in addition, as a female, I'd have to say that most of the guys on the station weren't too bad either.

My second choice would be TOS Enterprise. One word: Spock. :D (And okay, there were occasionally some good-looking space dudes, not just chicks for Kirk to put the moves on.)

Your one month mission is...

... (in the words of Bill Shatner on SNL) to get a life! To boldly go where no geek has gone before. To touch a boob. To kiss a girl! :smirk:

DS9 and the Falcon would just be awesome. Because Harrison Ford is awesome.

Not unexpected, I'm a B5 fan. But I haven't seen a single episode of the next two - they showed SG1 in the middle of the night in the middle of the week, and even recording it wouldn't have helped, I've got several shelves full of videos that I haven't had time to watch, and Firefly has never even made it to our very scifi-hostile TV, although I've heard only praises about it. :(
