Hi guys
I am a student at Glasgow university in Scotland. I am currently studying the media, as part of my final year i have to produce a 12,000word dissertation. And naturally being a big comic book fan i have decided to look at that world.
And would appreciate any sort of feedback that you guys have, about my chosen topic....

Now i understand that my topic may prove unpopular to many fans, but please know im not doing it 2 in any way degrade or bring down comics as i am a huge fan, particularly of Marvel - but i have had nagging concerns about the state of the industry for the past few years and this dissertation is a way for me to voice these issues.
Anyways my topic in the briefest way is looking at the lack of creativity within the Marvel universe - in particular how marvel seem (despite having a crop of genuinely talented writers) happy with just recycling the same old stories time and time again. Does this niggle and annoy any other fans? And hw do u think Marvel is and should be trying to get out of this habit and rut - if u indeed agree to any degree.

Thanks to anyone who finds the time to post and help.

I don't think that Civil War is a recycling of the same old stories. It seems that Marvel is taking a new approach on things with this storyline....even if some of the things aren't widely popular at the moment, like the whole Spidey reveals his ID thing. I was against it at first....and some of the things about it still doesn't sit well with me...but the things coming out of CW for the most part seem pretty fresh.

I think the problem is more making HUGE changes for no reason but to shock readers into buying books then going back to the status quo after the hype has died down. Marvel isn't the only one who does this either. DC has killed many characters in their "Crisis" and replaced them when all they could have done is just made an effort to write them better. In the issue where they killed off Blue Beetle, Ted was written better than I have ever seen him portrayed...he was a character that you could feel for even if you weren't a fan of BBs and they put a bullet in his head at the end......why not make an attempt to write him like they did in that issue instead of killing him and replacing him with a power ranger wannabe?

Changing things just for the sake of change can be just as bad as the same old crap.
