is it just me or was there really a recent article (at cinescape) about Clive Barker wanting to remake his original 1987 HELLRAISER?? I looked and looked and now that this site has switched over, I am unable to find te article.
seems to me there were about 24 comments regarding that NightBreed would have been a better choice for a remake... and there was some discussion about whether or not Rawhead Rex was a Clive Barker director movie.

I don't know, but every time I see your name with the line "Smell the untainted newbie freshness" underneath, I titter so.

I'm hardly a "newbie" I've been posting my comments at the bottom of the new CineScape.com articles for like 2 years plus before that I was over at Moviola posting my blurbs till I got bored with it.

Well, I was just amused by the play on words and everything, Mr. ...er, Phil. :)
I've not heard anything myself. He's long overdue for something onscreen though.

They are remaking Hellraiser because Barker wants to see what could be done with it with an actual budget. He's not directing though, just producing.
And yes, Coldheart Canyon did kick ass. Jakester just wants to see it on-screen for all the orgies though! :p
I've always though The Thief of Always would make a good movie too.

Do you remember the date of the article at the old site...around what time? What was the story about?
If the article didn't get transferred, perhaps if I go find it, I can send the link to the Karl to send it over here too...With so many articles to transfer with the history of Cinescape, I wouldn't be surprised if some got lost or didn't make the intial transfer.

I love Hellraiser as it is, though. It's creepy, sickening (for what Jiulia is capable of doing, and for Uncle Frank), and just soooooo perverse.
Yeah, I likes me some orgies.

is it only me or did i miss something? Julia died on the matress, that much was determined in part 2. did they ever SHOW her die on that Matress in part 1?
I dont remember anything about Julia dying on a matress on the first part (of course its been a while) but they set it up in part 2 that she could be reanimated from the blood soaked matress, which I dont remember from the first part.

Kirstie found Julia's dead body on Frank's old mattress when she was racing through the house trying to escape at the end of part one. We never actually witness the death, but the condition of the body leaves quite a bit to the imagination.

What the hell happened to this franchise? I've seen all of the movies, and while 5 was an interesting departure, as was 7 (Deader), they still basically all sucked ass, and were pretty much variations on the same theme.
Hell on Earth was cool.

I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really thought they needed to stop after Bloodline. It was good closure but the HR movies were already starting to border on silly by then.

I though 5 was pretty much crap, but I actually quite enjoyed 6, especially with the return of Ashley Laurence to the role of Kirstie. Haven't seen anymore than that though. I was wondering how long it was gonna take them to get to a cyber-plot they finally did in 8 (or 9, who knows).

the sequels are kinda like the Halloween sequels... they are all basically sub-par direct to video shit, just tht some of them smell nominally better than others.

No newbie smells frrrrrrresher than me.:)
I don't like Clive Barker. There I said it. His movies are good but his short stories suck. Actually I think he's a hack. Anyone can describe somebody's face being bitten off by a Demon. He was able to rise to the top of the pile because Steve King said he was the future of horror. Steve said this while getting his brain sautéed in whiskey and cocaine. Probably got paid coke money to say it.
Take "Hell's Event" for instance. A short story in Books of Blood 2. Clive is telling us a story about Demons and Hell itself running wild (he he) in London. He is talking about the Christian version of Hell, not some Greek underworld mind you. In the story the narrator (we ASS-U-ME it's Clive) says this:
"Joel ran. Jesus did he run."
This is not a quote from a character but narration. Does Clive know Jesus is central to the Christan faith? By using the name "Jesus" as an exclamatory word (thereby blaspheming according to the doctrine of the subject matter) Clive is contradicting the validity of Hell the Demons and the Apocalypse. Call me anal but this stuff bugs me about Clive. I mean it's like he feels he needs to repeatedly remind us that he hates the Church. Even if he has to step out of the narration of the story to do it. Hack.:Smirk:

By using the name "Jesus" as an exclamatory word (thereby blaspheming according to the doctrine of the subject matter) :headscratch:
saying "Jesus, did he run" is a little odd for a narrator to say, but its hardly blasphemy in my book. There are tons of examples where the apostles, Pharasees, Jews, Gentiles and Samaritans (among others) call Jesus by name. Its not blasphemy.
Even saying "God, damn it" implys that you're ordering the Creator or the universe to damn something or someone that he's already created, while its definitly not a good wholesome statement, you cant order God the Father to do anything, let alone damn something, so the point is moot.
Taking the Lords name in vain is a bit more tricky than using Jesus in a sentance, apparantly it can be done but to my knowledge theres no examples of this in the Bible.
Clive is contradicting the validity of Hell the Demons and the Apocalypse.:headscratch:
hmm...I disagree. It would take an extremely powerful thesis statement to contradict the validity of Hell, Demons and the Apocalypse. Personally, "Jesus did he run" doesnt quite do it.
Call me anal but this stuff bugs me about Clive. I mean it's like he feels he needs to repeatedly remind us that he hates the Church. Even if he has to step out of the narration of the story to do it. Hack.:Smirk::headscratch:
"Jesus, did he run" repeatedly reminds us that Clive hates the Christian Church? I just dont see it. I dont see any animosity or hatred for the Christian Chruch in that statement.
Clive IS stepping out of narration, I will give you that, but showing hatred and animosity towards the Christian Faith and the Chruch?:headscratch: no.
as for Clive being a hack, thats your opinion and you're entitled to it. I enjoyed Nightbreed and Hellraiser (1 and 2)... I tried reading Cabal but never got through the whole thing. After only two films, I think he's an ok director that needs to direct more to get a better feel for the medium.

Don't forget he wrote and directed Lord of Illusions, which can also be found in Cabal.
Cabal was pretty much Nightbreed verbatim, except the novella had a masturbation scene and a lot more internal dialogue.
And some of his other stuff, like The Theif of Always, is solid entertanment for kids.

I heard a while back they were proposing Lord of Illusions as a weekly TV show and were hoping Bacula would do it...I never knew it was part of Cabal, it seems rather non related to Nightbreed. Is Cabal a book of short stories or are they all connected?

Cabal is a novella that is packaged with 3 other short stories, including Lord of Illusions.
Cabal is the story Nightbreed was based on.

oh ok that makes more sense. I've heard the movie Nightbreed is only 1/3 complete (from the book) theres much much more that goes on in Cabal(the book) after the movie ends.
