...you need go out and run a few errands looking like you just got up and you run into 3 different people that you haven't seen in ages?!? It happened to me today.

It had been a lazy Sunday morning. I jumped in the shower, got out and dressed in sweats and running shoes, no make up, glasses on. We were leaving Barnes & Noble and I ran into a flamboyant ex-client of mine from my wireless sales days. Not too big of a deal. Then we are crossing the parking lot and see a former neighbor who is still dressed to the nines from church. After that we are off to the grocery store. Made it through the produce section OK, but on the 2nd aisle, I literally bump into a guy I went to college with. Luckily, neither of us were hurt. We took a few minutes to catch up, but by then I was getting paranoid. How many more people were lurking to catch me looking my worst?

My daughter, at 13, thought it was hilarious that all these people were seeing me look so bad and told me that I really shouldn't leave the house without make up anymore.

*sigh* I really hate it when this hapens.

I live in a small town, so I am used to that. However, I have learned that the world is small, and that no matter how many times I go out looking good and see NOBODY I know, the one time a year when I don't feel like spending 10minutes to brush my hair and teeth and throw on some makeup, I am going to run into someone I was once in love with and remind them why things didn't work out/we never dated.

I've learned my lesson. Unless it's a "no socks day" (like today), meaning I know I am not leaving the house, I try to make an effort not to look like a total schlump. That means pants with a real waistline and a fitted shirt, not a messed-up oversized ratty sweatshirt.

The only exception is when I'm going to tkd class. Then I just pull a jacket and an oversized pair of track pants over my uniform. I figure if anyone is going to comment on how I look when they can see the tkd uniform, they'll get what they deserve.
