I watched this sad parade of pop culture saunter across a stage last night for one reason and one reason only. To see my man Al Yankovic perform White and Nerdy live.

Campy image aside, this man is great musician and performer. I wondered ahead of time, can he pull that song off? It's simple enough to do in a studio where you can pause and re-cut bits and pieces of lyrics endlessly. But he's got some seriously fast, complicated verses, I just didn't know if he's stumble through it, lip synch or what.

But he pulled it off brilliantly - DANCING - I might add, the whole while.

Ice T gave him a very cool introduction calling him an "MC with the ability to take any style, and flavor and make it his own. "

Video, of course is on VH1.com if you missed it.

Peace!

I've actually been to a Weird Al concert and can tell you that he is incredible to see live. He's been doing raps more complicated than White n' Nerdy for decades including what I believe has been referred to as the Yoda Rap since they do it at the end of Yoda. It starts out simple and slow increasing in speed and complexity until it reaches a frenzied pace replete with arm-waving, head-slapping and a variety of other body motions at breakneck speeds. It simply puts anything I've seen anyone else do to shame. It must been seen to be believed.

I saw Al do White and Nerdy live on Leno a month or so ago. Glad to see the production values up on this one.

Curse Atlantic Records. Because of their delay, I have to wait until next summer before Al starts touring again.
