You Surface weenies are better off shifting to watching Invasion. Get its ratings up to keep it on the air. That way we won't lose TWO Sci-Fi shows.

Invasion = slow and boring, while Surface at least advances the frickin plot almost every episode. Also, Surface gets a lot of points for getting a lot of its science right.

Honestly, I'd rather see Surface come back rather than the yawn-fest that is Invasion.
But as what happens with all of the big network shows, the shows that reach the lowest common denominator (like Invasion) usually win out.
Just because a show is mysterious and hard to follow without having a guidebook, Sherpas, and a compass, doesn't make it intelligent or well written. In fact, it smacks of writers making it up as they go along without having so much as an outline of the story's basic premise *cough*Lost*cough*.
So for those of you ragging on Surface, here's to hoping you get more shows to your liking....like According to Jim, or Will & Grace, or CSI: Alpha Centurai Prime.

Meandering story that ignores things like the outside world coming in to help for something like, what is it now, three weeks after a major hurricane? I mean I know FEMA sucks, but c'mon. The writing is the same type of writing that used to be on Twin Peaks...don't give out any info, throw in weird things and pretend it's something that's in the design of the story when there really is nothing going on.
In other words, it tries to make its audience think that they're smart by keeping them guessing when in reality there is no cohesive storyline and the audience is completely falling for drivel.

I almost want to liken it to the new Miller Beer commercials. The ones that are saying that Miller is beer grown up. We all know that's not true. Miller is p!ss water. No matter how much someone tries to make it look cool, it simply isn't.
Kind of like Invasion.

Forcey, I just would like to know: if Invasion sucks so much, how come you've watched the whole thing?
At first I watched the first three episodes and was bored to tears. After that, I've tried watching it at various times largely due to all the buzz everyone here keeps making about it, but I still don't see what the fuss is about. It's slow, meandering, and just plain bad tv (and not in the so-bad-it's-good sort of way, either). Trust me, I haven't made my judgement of this show lightly.
I gave it an inkling of a chance. Same as I did with Lost, but don't get me started on that P.O.S.

Invasion started off very slowly, but there was lots of set up and character development that I liked. Plus, American Gothic had that same sort of structure, and I really enjoyed that. So, I decided to stick it out, and I find that lots of things are happening very quickly, the show seems to have a definite direction, and the writing is solid and works towards that payoff.
I didn't much care for a lot of the first season of Babylon 5, but I stuck it out because so many people had been going on about it, and I ended up really enjoying the series despite the bad CG and that a lot of the sets looked like ... sets on a stage.

Well, I'll tell you what...if Invasion lasts through a third season, I'll rent the DVDs and fast forward through the boredom and see if anything has changed. For now, I'll continue to watch seasons 1-4 of B:TAS until Futurama come on Adult Swim.
That's a mighty big 'if'.
Ya know, I still can't believe that Paul Dini, the same guy that wrote such great episodes of B:TAS is writing for Lost. Truly a shame.

Wow sounds like Surface. With its slow moving tsunamis, Subways to the center of the earth, People walking on the ocean floor, Monkeys that talk like little girls. Large multinational corporations creating monsters that run amok (holyshit I have never seen that before), A kid that can talk to the monsters and make them attack ( The guy that Created "Ben" needs to sue Surface's writers back to the stone age for that one). Yep I tell ya, Surface's writers run rings around Invasion's Hack Staff.

I know I was just making the point also that I try to watch as many eps of a show as possible before I hate or love it. Actually Daforce is the only reason I watched Babylon 5 I didn't know anyone that watched it so I went on Daf's word, and like Jake said I the first season was unremarkable. But I know you can judge a shows total worth by watching 1 ep or season. Actors leave writers leave. Things can change. After I watched every ep I agree that B5 was one of the best sci-fi shows ever.
ETA: Still not better than Farscape though. :)

Well, that's cool that you were able to watch it all the way through. The thing about B5 vs. the shows that we're discussing, is that JMS had always set it up as five year arc from the beginning of the series. So it had a beginning, a middle, and an end conceived from the time of its birth. If more shows had that kind of setup, then we wouldn't be stuck with meandering plotlines, plotholes, and just plain old boring crap.
You got to watch B5 after the fact when it was DVD. You could fast forward through the admittedly bad 1st season. Maybe if Invasion lasts past a third season, I'll give it a shot on DVD with my finger on the remote. Lost on the other hand, I might have to wait until something significant happens, like, I don't know...maybe they actually try to get off the island instead of setting up a Lord of the Flies re-enactment.
Finally, if a show doesn't grab me in three episodes, it most likely never will. Since my tv viewing time is somewhat precious and limited at times, I can't waste my time on something that I feel as more of a chore in watching rather than enjoying the experience. It's like going to the opera...if you don't like opera, you can't force yourself to enjoy it and you wind up having a miserable time.

Surface always was a strange show. Those first few episodes really had me hooked...it was interesting, intriguing and I kept up with it. Something about the show though never really clicked....I liked what I saw, but I had no interest in going back to it. It was on at an awkward time for my viewing schedule...still is....so I never catch it. Compare it to LOST and Invasion, which are on at perfect times, and it's no wonder that there isn't a soul watching Surface.
Minion: Sorta bummed by that too....I mean, gripe about it all you want, it was at least a semi-original idea for a primetime television show. *sigh* Can't wait until it's replaced by another doctor/lawyer/cop show.

Yeah, Carla was the only reason I tuned into that turd-burger in the first place. That was probably the first time I've turned off a new show after the first 15 min.
And I'm in L-U-S-T looooove with Carla, if that gives you any indication.

With Surface I don't try and rationalize or correct this show - it doesn't work. Just sit back and enjoy the gaffes, flubs, inconsistancies, chaos, confusion, mis-steps, mistakes, etc etc etc.
To old-time die-hard Sci-fi fans who have suffered thru times of drought followed by periods of bombardment with pompous, melodramatic, insufferable PC inundated, techno-babbled Sci-fi obsessed with its own self-importance as a "Message" - Surface was one small joy of goofy entertainment that accidently landed at our feet.
I for one, will miss it. The only thing missing was a gorilla in a space helmet.
I still think Invasion is a better written show.
