...for biggest celeb KOOK,
here comes news that puts Michael Jackson back in the lead.
It just has to be read to be believed.

From IMDB.com-

Jackson To Release Pope Prayers?

Pop superstar Michael Jackson has been asked by the Roman Catholic Church to set the prayers of the late Pope John Paul II to music. The 47-year-old singer was chosen to write music for the 24 prayers and chants, after Vatican officials decided his global celebrity would best promote their holy message. Father Giuseppe Moscati says, "We have the rights for the 24 prayers written by Pope John Paul. We had hoped the fact that we have been in contact with Michael Jackson would remain a secret. But sadly it has leaked out ahead of time. We are in discussions and trying to sort it out." The priest, who is head of the Millennium Music Society, insisted Jackson's hard-won battle against child molestation charges did not discount him as a candidate. He adds, "He was cleared and found not guilty by a jury. Michael Jackson is very interested in this project - we shall see what happens."

and reread! I think the Vatican might be about a decade behind when it comes to popular artists. They think, "Hmmm, who can we get to put John Paul's message to music that will make them legendary? How about MJ? He's been in the press a lot lately. Everyone knows his name." Gah!! I have a few ideas- how about Paul McCartney? Or Celine Dion? Hell- even Madonna would've been better, but I suppose they're still pissed about the burning cross.

I agree. There are by and large many artists out there
far more talented and relevant for the post than MJ.
Heck. Even Bob Dylan or Peter Gabriel would get my vote.
But preferably someone secular.
A Christian music artist would only be stuck in the paradigm
of their own contemporary musical experience, which
rarely exceeds anything past soft rock.
That is to say, a secular artist would be far more open to musical
interpretations and possibilities, than a Christian one.
I'm a Christian, but most of the Christian music out there
seems so terribly stuck in a rut, musically speaking, to recommend any of them would seem just plain wrong, IMO.

Note: Don't get me wrong. The message of most Christian music to me remains true, powerful and necessary to me. I just wish the expectation of originality in that music, rather than the derivations that permeate it, was met. I don't knock the words, just the music that accompanies it that seems so derived from so many better artists. That's my only beef with most Christian contemporary music today.

Oh I dunno, don't you think that with the Church's minor issue with child molesters in the ranks, that Jackson accurately reflectes the Church and what it means and it's impact on the world today?

"Ja got ta let us....pray Hoo!"

Kaeos? Only you could make MJ sound like he's in a rodeo. :smirk:

I didn't want to go there. I would think that with all the child molestation issues the church has had and HAS, including coverups (read:married Lisa Marie), and moving accused priests to different parishes (read:Bahrain), that they wouldn't want to deal with anyone with even a hint of molestation attached to his/her name. But that's just me.

And just to be clear, Tom Cruise is STILL in the lead, followed closely by the church. After all, they are the ones who approached MJ.

Cracking me up! Kaeos, that was pretty funny.

I don't see a problem with MJ fronting for an organized group that operates using misdirection, duress, strongarm tactics, and outright lies. Coverup is one of the Catholic Church's (not to be confused with Christianity) stocks in trade.

Really, all this would never have happened if those cardinals all voted for Outsydr to be the New Pope (kind of like New Coke?):

That is the creepiest thing I have read today. ;;>.> Tom Cruise is at any moment, going to explode ala the Stepford Wives, and start repeating things over and over.

Kanye West: 'I should be in the Bible' (http://breakingnews.iol.ie/entertainment/story.asp?j=172291534&p=y7zz9zz4x)

Shit on a shingle, this guy is both egotistical and nuts.

"I changed the sound of music more than one time... For all those reasons, I'd be a part of the Bible. I'm definitely in the history books already."

Yeah, cause no-one thought about rapping with a choir or singing with Jamie Foxx before...

The more I see this guy, the more I hate him. Let's just say, for example, that the church was going to write a modern version of the Bible. Who would belong in it? I vote Mother Theresa. Does Kanye West even blip on the radar? No. One reason- hmmm, let me think... has something to do with the Ten Commandments...
Second Commandment (Exodus 20:3-6): You shall have no other gods beside Me. You shall not make for yourself any graven image, nor any manner of likeness, of any thing that is heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them, nor serve them, for I, the Lord Your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. This guy is trying to make an idol out of himself. What a jackass!

Another reason- hmmm, something about pride...
God hates pride (Proverbs 8:13). The Bible tells us that, “pride brings destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly than to live it up among the rich and famous (Proverbs 16:18-19). The Message paraphrase of Proverbs 16:5 goes on to say that, “God cannot stomach arrogance or pretense; believe me, He’ll put those upstarts in their place.”

Throughout scripture we are continuously told about the consequences of pride. Satan was cast out of heaven because of pride (Isaiah 14:12-15). He had the selfish determination to replace God Himself as the rightful ruler of this world. But Satan will be cast down to hell in the final judgment of God. For those who rise up in defiance against God, there is nothing ahead for them but disaster, because “I will rise up against them” is the promise of the Lord. He will cut them off (Isaiah 14:22).

I am not even a Christian and I am horribly offended by this ass making assinine comments like "I belong in the Bible." Believe me, if KW was in the Bible, he would be made an example of what pisses off God, not the hero he's making himself out to be.

God cares about Kanye West like George Bush doesn't hate black people. Ba-dum-ching!

Thank you, thank you! I'll be here all week!

Please note that this is a rip on West and not Bush since I think West's statement about Bush hating black people is absurd to say the least.

Exactly. Everyone knows Bush isn't a racist.

Thank you, thank you--try the veal, it'll be here all week!

I vote Mother Theresa.Depends on what the purpose of the modern version of the Bible is supposed to be. Public relations? Definitely Mother Theresa. However, if it's talking about people who changed the world for the better, I think Mother Theresa's reputation far exceeds her actual deeds. There are people who saved many many more lives and whose names are not known or have been forgotten.

I don't know, I think it's funny. There's weirder stuff in the Bible than Kanye West. ;)

Hey there, Tom. Is MI3 going to suck as much as MI2, or more?

And why did you register here, but Katie didn't?

And why isn't there an "Ask Tom Cruise" thread for questions like these?

It was just a name I pulled off the top of my head in 2 seconds of someone more deserving of such recognition. I am sure there are hundreds more, at least.
