What is a ytmnd, you ask. Well, remember that movie "Finding Forrester" starring Sean Connery? It's one entry in the genre of film I call, "Unhip Educated White Person Takes Young Urban Black Person Under Their Wing, And In The Process Learns To Jettison Years Of English Grammar In Favour Of Words Like "Fo' Shizzle." It tries to makes other unhip white people like myself feel as though we've had a Meaningful Cultural Experience, from the safety of distant suburbs.

I never actually have seen the movie, unfortunately. It's written and directed by the same Gus Van Sant who gave us the flawed, yet impactful and thought-provoking Good Will Hunting, which featured almost no black people, but lots of foul-mouthed white people. Anyhoo, there is this scene where Connery is trying to get a young man played by Rob Brown, to get into writing using a typewriter.

You're the man now, dog?! Okay... it's just so unexpected coming from Mr. Connery. Not exactly "The Man Who Would Be King," but fortunately not "Zardoz."

Anyway, ytmnd started an internet phenomenon back in 2001 and became so successful that eventually people started creating literally hundreds of thousands of their own. The whole point is juxtaposition. You take an image or images, sound clips, and at least some text, that have little or nothing to do with one another, in such a way as to be as absurd as possible. Sometimes the results are terrible, sometimes they are supernaturally hilarious.

Btw, I have to give mad props here. (See? Mad Props?! Now I'm doing it! Damn you Van Sant!!) SlamShut was the first guy to post ytmnd's here and it was because of him that I found yet a new way to waste precious hours of my life in front of a cathode ray tube.

Spacey, I have never seen "Finding Forrester" but I swear to Christ I laughed out loud when I read that he said "You're The Man Now Dog!!!" because I could actually hear it in my head. Funny how something so out of place can be imagined with no problem!
