Ok, maybe I'm a little dense or maybe events in the film confuse but I have a question about the money.

The British government gives Bond 10 million dollars. He loses it all. Vesper won't give him the other five million. Felix Leiter gives him whatever he has left with the promise that the CIA can have LeChiffre. Bond says "what about the money".....Leiter says " do we look like we need it". Nice line.

So, Bond wins it all. Over 100 million dollars, right? Seems like he's going to get the girl and keep the millions and quit the service. Sounds very good, in fact. Then M calls and wants to know where the money is. Was she just wondering about the ten million or did she expect ALL the money?

Then...SMERSH or SPECTRE or whoever....gets the money from Vesper. Bond, eventually, gets the money from the guy at the end.

Now, do I have that clear in my mind? If so, what happens to the money? Bond always did seem rather well off, with his own money to spend and expensive tastes. Was this first story the origin story of his "nest egg", as well? He gives the government back the ten mil and keeps 100 mil for himself? That's how I see it.

Help me out here! And.....I've decided to see CR a third time tomorrow.

Does he get the money from the guy at the end ??? He finds him, shoots him in the foot and so on.... but does he get the money ?

I have only seen the film once so far so I may have missed something.

Well, I'm just assuming he got the money. I guess the guy didn't have the briefcase with him. Perhaps Bond and Britain are out of luck, money wise. Maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part that Bond would get the money.

The Government put up the stacks and if he had lost all of the money, they would have had to swallow the losses, so I’m sure they felt entitled to the winnings.

But like any smart spy, he probably skimmed a little for a rainy day, and like any smart agency they pretended not to notice.

The government expected the full winnings.

I was afraid of that.

But I like Al-Dog's way of thinking!

i think theres more to the story than what we saw, even at the tail end of Casino Royale, does Bond get the money-man in the end?... was that really where the trail ended?
I dont think so, the next movie is a continuation of Casino Royale featuring Vesper's boyfriend as the villain (I think) its entirely possible that the money (or part of) was wired to him from Vesper Lynd.
