So what're people's favorite anime films, just outta curiosity?
My top 3 are:
1. Akira
2. Ghost in the Shell
3. Tied between Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Iria: Zeirum the Animation (cause I'm not sure whether to classify this as a movie or not).
Some of my other favs are Steamboy, M.D. Geist 1 & 2, Memories, Vampire Hunter D, Demon City Shinjuku, Wrath of the Ninja, and Tokyo Godfathers.

1. Ninja Scroll
2. Aeon Flux (the collection of shorts BEFORE she started talking)
3. Princess Monoke
Akira was great for its time, but I honestly can't watch a lot of that film because it puts me to sleep.
And I'm in animation classes at the moment.

Should be under Favorite Anime-TV.....
Yeah, yeah...but it's all collected in one DVD, so it's technically a movie now.

Speaking of which, I've been meaning to ask you about that. How are your classes? You're taking 2D right?

I'm in an Advanced 2D class right now, and an Advanced 3D class. My other class is Rigging.
My 2D class is my best class so far. This week's assignment is to work on a lip sync for a set piece of dialoge. I need to do head movements along with it. Really not as easy as it sounds.

My fav movies are
1.) Ghost in the Shell - I never get bored of this one.
2.) Perfect Blue - It's just too weird.
3.) Armitage: Dual Matrix - No one ever accussed me of good taste
I also enjoy Ninja Scroll, Akira, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away. Somehow, I still haven't seen Appleseed or Ghost in the Shell 2.

Gundam Wing:Endless Waltz - Love or hate it, this film got me into more deeper anime, as i caught into the gundam craze at the end of the 90's.
Laputa(Castle in the sky)- Miyazakii in general just knows how to make things work, and I'd throw any film of his on here, but this one is my personal favorite.
Ghost in the shell and GitS: Innocence - If you watch either movie seperate or together, its still a strong world and a strong story. Batau is just a very tough, yet touching character.
The Pokemon Movies: ok, laugh if you will. But as an uncle(Babysitter is a more apt term) you can't help but enjoy some of the visuals and the even some of the beauty of the simple, yet elegant animated movies. From the venice-like streets to the forests and oceans, it has the right mix for some fans trying to keep the kids occupied.

I enjoy lip sync, but then, for 2D it's probably a lot different. (I just finished school last summer for 3D Animation) I wouldn't mind taking a 2D course some time down the line though.
oh, and Pryde? Watch Appleseed. right now. Go. close your internet browser and watch it.

2) (tie) Ninja Scroll / Ghost In The Shell
3) (tie) Anything by Hayao Miyazaki / Animatrix
There's way too many honorable mentions- Vampire Hunter D,
Fullmetal Alchemist, Wings of Honnemaisse, Cowboy Bepop,

Very Funny, though i gotta admit, if the weinsteins and john lasseter support it, it must be good. Look at what they brought over in the miyazaaki library.
I think theres a new pokemon movie due out in the us in the spring though. And then we got new Miyazaaki dubs next month with Howl's moving castle, a new dub of My neighbor Totoro, and although not a miyazakii film, the excellent whisper of the heart.

I forgot to list a film Miyazaki only produced but is a wonderful film - Only Yesterday. No magic, no action, just a sweet story about a young woman reconnecting with her childhood. Such a good movie.

I would say it's Americian Animation. Anime is generally exclusive to animation from Japan.

Vampire Hunter D- one of the older animes but it is a true classic and has got a very good, linear storyline that makes sense compared to the newer stuff.

How so?
[shrugs]....I don't know, linear storylines can have a tendency to be boring most of the times.
What newer 'stuff' are you referring to?

try not to read too much into TSH Affie, I think that the new stuff might actually be the new stuff... you know... stuff like oh... uh... anime from the last 10 years or so?
VHD isnt one I'd direct people too straight out of the gate... try Miasaki first... Castle in the SKy, Princess Mononoke, Naussica in the valley of the Wind...
of course if you actually LIKED horror animes you could go with Wicked City and a few others... and oh TSH, i actually liked the remake of Vampire Hunter D better, but i own the first one....
