Holy fucking shit!
At around the 20 minute mark when they showed him...and said that...
I almost screamed out my lung.
Biggest shocker since Season1.....maybe even bigger then that.

So...didn't see that coming.
I'm taking bets on who's going to turn out to be Jack's father. And if it isn't Donald Sutherland, I don't know who I'd pick.

Since this thread doesn't talk about the preview, I won't say which actor that was...
LOL Are we the only ones who watched this, Pen?
My god, that was the biggest twist since season 1 and we're the only ones here.

Somehow the implied history between Jack and his sister in-law seems old hat, even though my mind's drawing a blank right now for similar situations in past seasons. The women just can't resist Baur :) But I hope they're not going to write Jack with a "rekindled hidden torch" for her, because 1) he still cares for Audrey (as evidenced by her being one of only two people he asked about on returning from China) and 2) how many women can you hold a "special spot" for??!! He hadn't seen Greg (as well as his sister-in-law I assume) since Terry's death, and he was already going from Terry to Nina and then, (in Day 1) back to Terry.
In any case, this is an interesting turn of events. I don't know why it never really occurred to me that Jack might have siblings, etc. The season so far had all seemed a bit old hat actually, other than the bomb going off, but bringing in other Baurs (and revealing one of them to be the nameless string-puller behind the presidential scheming last season!) is a surprisingly surprising plot line.

Nope. I watched it too. I just didn't get in here to talk about it until this morning.
That was definitely a big twist. I'm wondering if Jack somehow found out about his brother's role last season. If not, his brother will be in even more pain as soon as Jack DOES find out. He'd better hope that Jack never stumbles upon that bit of information.

Holy f*cking shit, that twist had me jumping in my chair. It seems Jack isn't the only cold-blooded mofo in the family ... it makes me wonder what kind of twisted character Papa Bauer has, to raise two such sons. I hope this means we get more information on last year's conspiracy.
I agree that the sister-in-law is a distraction (or just motivation for brother Bauer to turn on Jack) ... but overall I liked tonight's episode. Anyone else think poor Waleed (the pres's sister's boyfriend) has bit off more than he can chew? I get a bad feeling from that scenario.

Haha. It most defnitely happened to me too, Negs.
Brother in law asked this last night while I was still just laughing about the whole twist..
"What if the dad is the REAL puppet master over last year, not brother Graham.."
Plausible.
Love this show!!

Okay.
Seriuosly.
Am I the only one here who thinks Jack Bauer has OFFICIALLY JUMPED THE SHARK??
Evil brother Skippy as the mastermind from last season???!!!!
Papa has a role in all of this????
Jack has had a history with his sister-in-law????
Why not have the cast of 24 on Jerry Springer.
I'm sorry, but this crap, when combined with dialog from Chloe "Why does everybody around me keep dying?" (BECAUSE YOU'RE IN CTU!!! WTF!! YOU THINK YOU'RE DEALING WITH WALMART GREETERS???) makes me appreciate Kimberley all the more.
Sheesh - major shark jumping and it is only hour five.
I hope to be proven wrong.

Sorry, dude. I'm currently watching Season 2 with Neg Jr. (he was too young first time round) and we're on hour 5. The first 4 hours are fantastic--"I'm gonna need a hacksaw" and as thrilling a setup as any season--except for Kim Bauer. I mean, you're at the hospital with a little girl, the doctor says she shows signs of previous abuse besides her head injury, and you don't say, "I've only been working for the family a few months, but I've noticed her dad's got a temper and he threw her against the bed this morning. Just ask her." No, you say, "You don't think I did this?" then run away from psycho dad, call your idiot boyfriend, and get caught in a cougar trap.
I know it's stretching coincidence to have Jack's family suddenly involved in the conspiracy. (I did wonder whether they even planned it last season ... cuz the actor playing Jack's brother looks nothing like him.) And the history with the sister-in-law is annoying (although a useful shortcut to get assistance from her in the future). But at least it's plausible--Jack comes from a background in the military industrial complex, so he gravitated to CTU whereas Dad and Bro gravitated to money and influence-peddling. That stretching jumps a piranha, maybe. Kim Bauer in season 2 jumps a whale shark.

The first time I saw his briother this season, I immediately thought it was the bald mysteroius baddie from last year (since he mysteriously vanished). I swear its the same guy. And every person I discuss the show with came to the same conclusion. I haven't seen the two side-by-side, so I am just going off of memeory.
IF they are not the same guy, the story (IMHO) is a little better off. But if it is the same guy behind the previous conspiracies and back now - AND if it is his brother who was behind it all..... yeah..... ummm....
The first four hours were WOW!! But the idea of amping the drama with really silly plot devices like thsi - - not buying it. Jack's been at the top of his game for so many years - and JUST NOW all these discoveries are all coming togteher and JUST NOW - "OMG!! Look at number 17!!!!"
First a mole-a-day at CTU - now being blindsided by all these family-ties by such a notorious figure as Jack???!!!
It's just a show...it's just a show
*I agree with your recollections of the Kim thing. I found it best to just block her out all together.
But it WAS a stupid line for Chloe to blurt.

Oh, it's definitely the same actor--Paul McCrane (previously killed by a falling helicopter on "ER," made a memorable appearance on "X-Files" sans head, and if you put curly red hair on him, you might remember him as senstive gay guy from the original movie "Fame") . And I suspect that he is not connected to day 6's conspiracy, but to day 5. It's in the course of investigating day 6 that Jack is going to discover that connection. (Because that was a gaping hole not explained last year.)
This is what I'm thinking: Dad and Bro are involved in the military-industrial conspiracy that was behind day 5, with the intention of getting the US involved in a war in Generikistan. While researching terrorists to precipitate the war, they checked out Russian General Whosit, but turned instead to the pseudo-Chechens who made things go horribly wrong. (But since the conspiracy escaped detection, I guess it worked okay for them.) General Whosit sold the nukes to Fayed for use on day 6 instead ... Jack gets that name and is at risk of uncovering the connection to day 5, leading Dad and Bro to try to thwart him. I mean, face it--Jack has been working against CTU management and moles too many times. They need to use a different antagonist to run interference with his investigation, and using his hitherto-unknown family gives it a little more shock and spice. (Plus, this is how we also bring in Logan and Co. for season 6.)
So, if it turns out I'm completely wrong, and his family is behind the day 6 attacks as well, then I'll be really disappointed in this season's plot. Because one of the things I like about this season so far (besides vulnerable Jack) is how they're setting up the struggle to contain the terrorist attacks. Terrorists don't necessarily need "inside" help to cause chaos, and seeing the full strength of CTU being brought to bear on the problem (and still barely missing the nuke) feels more realistic than any of the insider/mole conflicts.

Heh, I looove Paul McCrane, but am not digging him as being Jack's brother.
Don't get me wrong, he's an excellent baddie. (and he was an excellent baddie on ER in his own lovable way) But I just don't know that I buy him as a Bauer. As was said...they looking NOTHING alike.
But he did give us the best 24 line ever, so I'm cutting them some slack for now, but I hope this stays on a short leash.
"People in this country are dying, and I need some information. Are you gonna give it to me, or do I have to start hurting you?"
"....don't you think you're hurting me now?"
Solid episode again, and while I'm enjoying the president's sister's boyfriend's storyline...I realllllllllllly am just annoyed by the president's sister.

I have to disagree. The best 24 line ever was in season 2: "I'm gonna need a hacksaw!"

And I think Jack's next line was better.
"Trust me, I'm not."

Even funnier was when his brother looked at Jack and said something like "I cant go with you" and Jack gives him a look and says "Oh yes, you are." I said the same line in my mind two seconds before Jack uttered it. This show keeps going and going! I freakin love the President's wormy assistant. He is my new favorite character. "I'm going to need you to tender your resignation..."
